Issac - a little, charming, historic village situated in the stunning Crempse Valley, in a heart of Dordogne, surrounded by lush, green countryside and many places of interest nearby (Chateau de Montreal, famous distillery “Reymond Clovis”). There are plenty activities around for adults and children alike: wine testing, canoeing, pottery making, painting lessons, go-karting, fishing just to name few. There are Aquarium, Museums, Prehistoric sites, Aqua Park, Park-en-ciel (adventure park-zip wires), pony clubs, golf etc., very popular with trekkers, bike and horse riders. Nearby medieval town of Bergerac, on banks of the river Dordogne, offers excellent selection of cafes and restaurants found in the little, charming side streets. There are over 250 vineyards surrounding Bergerac alone, one of them famous Chateau Monbazillac. Issac’s location makes it a perfect base for exploring Dordogne and beyond. You can visit: to the West - famous St. Emilion, Bordeaux, and even the seaside (Arcachon, Cap Ferret and Dunes de Pyla), to the North – Perigueux and Brantome, to the East – Sarlat, Lascaux Caves, Issigac, Montazier to the South. Whatever you want do and whichever way you go great adventure awaits you! However, if you just want to relax, why not stay by the shimmering water of the pool, just enjoy the sun and listen to the sounds of nature...

A WONDERFUL WEEK!

  • 5 of 5
What a wonderful week we have just spent at the Cottage! It had everything we needed and more besides, and all in such stunning grounds. We all felt extremely comfortable in our holiday
cottage - it was like "home from home" - all tastefully decorated and in-keeping with a cottage-style.

We breakfasted in the garden or on the terrace, and had lunch and barbecues round the pool. Perfect! The children, aged 17 and 4, loved the gym, as did we. We could have spent a week just in the library!

We could go on ... but suffice to say we all had a fine time, it just wasn't long enough to do all the exploring the region has to offer. We'll just have to come back.

Thank you so much.

VERY NICE, RELAXING HOLIDAY

  • 5 of 5
After a journey of 1.500 km we arrived at the Cottage full of expectations - and they were all fulfilled. The Cottage is a very cosy place, an old farmhouse redone to a very high standard, just perfectly suited for a family looking for a relaxing holiday away from it all - whether it is by the pool or on the terrace with a glass of nice local red wine. The Cottage is very conveniently located in between the truly impressive sights of Lascaux, Pechemerle and other prehistoric sites, the idyllic medieval towns of Bergerac, Sarlat and Perigeux and the wine region of Saint Emilion. Thanks again to the owner Agnes, who - although living next door - fully respected our privacy, but was always there to provide an explanation or guidance. We have greatly enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend the Cottage. Best regards Hans

EXCELLENT!

  • 5 of 5
The accommodation was excellent. The fireplace in the large sitting is quite magnificent and the accommodation overall proved very comfortable and well appointed. The many character features were beautifully conserved and made the cottage a truly charming place to stay. The kitchen was well appointed and there were very attractive facilities for dining both inside and out. Although we didn't actually use the gym, the array of equipment was amazing and clearly catered for all tastes. The grounds are large and beautifully kept with a lovely swimming pool. The owner was always there to offer help when necessary but there was also total privacy in the arrangements, with the cottage having its own outside area which is not overlooked. There are splendid walks in the surrounding forests and countryside and there is also easy access to towns such as Bergerac. This was our first experience of renting accommodation In France and we really feel that we struck gold!

EXCELLENT HOUSE AND HOST

  • 5 of 5
The house where even better than shown on the photos. Excellent quality, very nice host. We where two families with children age 8-11 sharing the house. The pool where used a lot both during daytime and evening. We used the barbeque a lot, and the kitchen is very well equipped. We recommend families to stay here. Many nice places to visit in the nearby area, but dont expect to walk to any attractions or villages, you need a car to stay here. We had a great and relaxing time in this house, and the house have everything you need. :)

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking time to write this lovely review and for your kind words. Meeting you all was a delightful experience. I am very happy that you all had a great and relaxing time here. Although the house has – like you said – everything you need, it seems the pool is definitively a winner :-))) the kids just loved it! There are many nice places to visit all around (which makes holiday interesting and exciting) and they are easily accessible from “Au Pied”. I do agree though - you need a car. At the same time the peace and tranquillity of the place is what is really needed for a relaxing holiday. It looks like a combination of interesting, exciting and relaxing makes a great holiday! Fantastic:-))))

WHAT A FANTASTIC HOLIDAY!

  • 5 of 5
What a wonderful holiday! What a beautiful house! What a fantastic location! The photos really don’t do it justice. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Au Pied de la Cheminee. The property is huge, in excellent condition and very tastefully decorated. We especially enjoyed the main kitchen, superbly equipped. We wish we could have one just like this. It is like one of those “dream kitchens” you see in “House and Garden”. The area is extremely beautiful and peaceful, quite rural. The kids loved the pool, the garden, the Wii games and were most impressed with DVD’s collection (there must be hundreds of them!). Our stay was made extra special by the owner, Agnes who is really friendly & helpful, but not at all intrusive. Nothing is too much trouble. We highly recommend this place... see for yourselves - you will definitely not be disappointed!

AU PIED DE LA CHIMENEE

  • 5 of 5
The house and grounds are even lovelier than the photos. It was a very special holiday. Agnes the owner was so thoughtful and kind. As for our 2 dogs - they were in heaven having all that space to themselves!
Did not want to leave.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. I am delighted that you all had enjoyable holiday. I always try my best to make all my guests feel special, although “Au Pied de la Cheminee” certainly does its share! As you say – and I totally agree – it is a lovely place... truly “home away from home”. I think all guest this summer were feeling relaxed and comfortable here. Despite many fabulous places of interest around, they all stayed “home”. Like you, they just did not want to leave! Sunbathing, enjoying the pool, cooking fantastic meals (although the kitchen is very well equipped, still I did not think some of the dishes you prepared could be made outside restaurant, bravo! It was better than restaurant!). As for the puppies, well... not surprise they enjoyed it too... Peaceful, tranquil...There is so much wild life around, all the space in the garden... should make any animal happy!

Car: recommended

Issac - a little, charming, historic village situated in a beautiful part of the Dordogne, surrounded by lush, green countryside and many places of interest to visit nearby, such as Château de Montréal, fortified abbeys of Sourzac (traces of cave paintings have been found in nearby cave) and St. Astier both located in the inhabited since prehistory Isle Valley. 15 min. away the medieval centre of Bergerac, on the banks of Dordogne with its charming timber framed stone houses, quaint alleys and old squares offers great selection of restaurants, museums, shops and activities. Here you can take a boat trip on a Gabare or take a little train on a guided visit of the town. For those more adventurous we recommend visiting towns of Brantome to the north, St Emilion, Bordeaux and Arcachon (with its splendid beach and famous nearby Dunes de Pyla) to the west and the Dordogne Valley with its wonderful views, caves and market towns) to the east.
