Beautifully restored penthouse apartment on the fourth floor of a Parisian-style building with only 8 apartments. Fantastic location to see Buenos Aires. The apartment was restored over 9 months to reclaim the grand living at the beginning of the 1900s. No expense was spared to recreate the rich feeling with the imported wood while still modernizing the kitchen and bathrooms.
Very high ceilings with ornate plaster work characterized by the wood detailing and original pinotea Norwegian wooden floors which create a warm atmosphere. There is an entrance hall, separate lounge/living and dining room, a master bedroom with a luxury queen size mattress and luxury bedding with a fully equipped ensuite bathroom complete with Jacuzzi bathtub and shower. Second bathroom 'loft-style' above the kitchen with a double bed and a half-bathroom. Designer kitchen with gas stove, dishwasher and refrigerator. Clothes washing machine as well and access to the rooftop clothes line. Living room has a Bose Wave stereo and cable TV. Wireless internet in the apartment. Mood lighting in every room. Maid service once a week. Air conditioned for summer and central heating (water forced radiators) in winter. There is an elevator (Parisien style wrought iron) so you don't have to walk up that many flights (unless you are working off all the great food in Buenos Aires).
I grew up in Canada and the US and fell in love with Buenos Aires and the Argentine culture so decided to put some permanent roots down in Buenos Aires. I come back at least twice a year to visit friends and to keep experiencing the ever-changing city. I made it my personal goal to visit every one of the 'notable cafes' of Buenos Aires - the ones that have been around at least a hundred years. One is on the same street as the apartment.
Dave Michayluk purchased this apartment in 2006
The apartment is half of the top floor of a hundred year old Parisian-style building. When I started looking for a place this one jumped out and definitely a very lucky find! After 9 months of restoration/renovation it is showing its full potential and I wish I could live here all year round.
This is the perfect location to visit Buenos Aires. Walking distance to Recoleta and the centre of Palermo, with restaurants and shopping at your door. Park Las Heras is two short blocks away and you can walk to the botanical gardens, the Evita museum and there is a hidden cafe in the courtyard of a museum that is about 15 blocks away. So many hidden wonders and there is a continuously updated house guidebook that has my recommendations. I'll mail that in advance to help with your planning. Some of the restaurants (especially the closed door restaurants) are often fully booked in advance so it is good to do some planning. I wish I had two stomachs when I come to Buenos Aires.
The photos show the place as it truly is. We were contacted by David a few weeks prior to our arrival to alert us that the building was working on the gas line so we would be without hot water and use of the stove. He offered us a total refund if we wanted to stay elsewhere but after scanning the web for other apartments we still found ourselves drawn to this one because of it's over all look. We were glad we did. We worked out a great compromise where we got a week's gym membership for our hot showers and Miguel got us a hot plate so we could still cook a little bit. The location was perfect. The subway stop was close by and the neighborhood had great places to eat and the local grocery stores were convenient. We ate breakfast every day in the apt and a few dinners there as well. I highly recommend a restaurant in the area by the name of Oviedo if you want some place nice to eat. The apartment over all was very comfortable. The bathrooms are pretty small but the other rooms(aside from the little loft space) are spacious and nicely decorated. We loved the high ceilings. My only complaint was that the pillows were so flat and uncomfortable. I would definitely suggest getting some better pillows. Also the railing on the stairs going around the elevator was dangerously loose. Safer to take the elevator! But for the price, we would definitely stay here again next time we come back to BA.
We stayed at the apartment for 10 days and had a great time! The apartment is VERY comfortable, elegant and cozy. It is in a great neighborhood , close to cafes, parks, malls and restaurants. It is also a block away from an avenue where you can take buses, taxis (they are very cheap) and the subway.
We will definitely come back as we truly felt at home. Miguel, the contact person, was very helpful and punctual. Dave, the owner, also had a great attitude, answered the e-mails right away and kept in touch to check how everything was going.
We stayed here for a week and a half and loved every minute of it! We will definitely be back.
The apartment is perfectly situated near multiple "subte" (subway) stations, near Palermo Soho (a big, modern shopping mall), and a host of other great shops and restaurants.
The apartment has been lovingly renovated so the décor is beautiful (high ceilings and windows, etc). The apartment building it is in is small but well appointed. The air conditioning worked great in one of the hottest Argentinian Summers on record!
Also fantastic was its location to a good, safe, reliable money changer. Given the difference between the official and 'blue' exchange rates, it was nice to have one of the best rates I could find just 2 blocks from the apartment.
We can't wait to stay there again!
The apartment is on the cusp of. Recoleta and Palermo. Easy walk to store, museums, subways, and restaurants. The apartment had a well thought out layout. Which made it very comfortable for two people. We would defiantly book this apartment again.
I really enjoyed staying in this beautiful apartment. It is very spacious, strategically located (for example near Recoleta) and well kept.
Nicely decorated and also with a fully equipped kitchen.
I highly recommend it
This is an excellently appointed and located apartment for anyone looking to spend some time exploring all that Buenos Aires has to offer. While there are two subway stops a few blocks away, it's best to just take a meandering walk into the city center or over into Palermo--it's never a long walk and there's always a café along the way if a craving strikes. With a nicely outfitted kitchen--including a dishwasher--we were able to spend our days out and about and then cook nice meals and enjoy them in the dining room. The bedrooms were quite comfortable, and although we were only two people we could see how the apartment could be great for two couples. A large living room gave us a great spot to read during a rainy afternoon. We would not hesitate to recommend this apartment to others coming to visit the city.
The apartment is close to a large grocery store as well as amazing delis, fruit markets, cheese shops and wine stores. There is a great Havana coffee shop very close as well as a hundred year old cafe and bar (Tolon) a block away that is open 24 hours. The best medialunas are two blocks away but there are competing bakeries and a home made pasta shop that will make your mouth water. Good thing there is a gym nearby in case you want to work out so you can enjoy more! Walking distance to everywhere with the benefit of taxis at your door and the subway a block away. This is the best location to see Buenos Aires.
