Newly renovated, junior 1 bedroom English basement apartment, with 4 full-size windows, offers plenty of natural light. Sleeps 3 adults with a queen bed and twin sofa bed. You'll have a comfortable night's sleep with 500 thread count sheets and tempurpedic pillows. Full bathroom with bathtub and shower. Washer and dryer in unit. Full-size kitchen appliances include refrigerator, stove, oven, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, toaster and iron. Kitchen has granite countertops and is fully furnished with plates, glasses, cookware, utensils, etc. The apartment has all the conveniences of home. For travelers with small children, a highchair and Pack n' Play are available upon request.
The apartment is located just north of downtown, near 2 yellow/green line metro stops—just 3 blocks from Howard University/Shaw metro stop and 4 blocks from the Mt Vernon/Convention Center metro stop. Reagan National Airport is also located on the yellow line, so the commute from the airport is very easy. Washington DC is a very walkable city with good public transportation. You won't need a car while you are here. If you are traveling with a car, there is plenty of street parking available. Street parking is locally zoned, but we will arrange for you to have a parking pass for a $25 fee.
We are walking distance to vibrant nightlife, like the U street corridor, Logan Circle and Chinatown/Gallery Place. Only 3 metro stops to the National Mall and all of the historic monuments. Lots of restaurants within walking distances.
For extended stays, we will have the apartment cleaned weekly for an additional $50. Nightly rate does not include the Washington DC lodging tax of 14.5%.
We live upstairs and are happy to answer any questions or make recommendations. The apartment has a separate alley entrance, and you will have complete privacy.
We moved to DC together in 2005, the year we were married. It was going to be a short-term stay, and here we are eight years later. We absolutely love our city.
The nice thing about the English basement apartment is that it's only a couple steps below ground. So it really feels more like a first-floor space. The ceilings are high. And the four tall windows let in plenty of natural light.
Our neighborhood, Shaw, is also called Old City. It has a great neighborhood vibe. Subway stops are convenient. But if you like to walk, it's a beautiful city to see on foot.
We're located just 3 blocks from the Convention Center.
