Comforting 1700 Sq.ft. two story 3/2 Mountain Cabin- Stress Reliever's Dream

Cabin In Waterfall Cove. Sit next to the most musical creek you'll ever hear. You won't want to leave! The newly renovated vintage cedar two-story cabin in the Nantahala Forest sleeps 6-8, is situated in a private cove . Year round access and comforts, with a long paved drive from hwy. Two large screened porches adjacent to the flowing creek are shaded by large hickory trees in a natural setting. Yet no long drives to all the places you want to visit including the Great Smokey Mtns. National Park (20 minutes away) New & Fully equipped modern kitchen. Open the windows in all bedrooms and sleep to the sounds of the melodious creek that flows from the waterfall all year round. The musical creek wraps around the cabin. 3 bedrooms with king, queen and twin beds respectively. Two new bathrooms, one downstairs and one upstairs. The screened back porch doubles as a sleeping area with a comfortable futon and the most favorite place to sleep. The living room is spacious and cozy with bay windows overlooking the creek, flat screen TV & convenient internet, wi-fi included. Full laundry room upstairs and extra storage for luggage and misc. large items. We took extra care to include the most comfortable mattress in each bedroom. We also took extra care to create numerous conversation areas so that even with 8 people there is always a place to 'get away' for private conversations rather than always having others 'underfoot' Enjoy your favorite book while sitting in one of two outdoor swings in the front or back terraces, on a bench by the creek, or rock in one of two large screen porches. The temperature here is always cooler due to the eco-rainforest environment. Walk to the secluded waterfall behind the cabin and refresh yourself in the spring-fed crystal water that flows into the creek or grill a steak or roast hot dogs from our stone fire pit and bar-b-que grills The beautiful old stone kitchen floor was preserved from the original farmhouse. Fully modernized retreat preserving its 1940's vintage ambiance. Offered for the first time to discriminating vacationers who are looking for something different. Only 15 min. to the Smokey Mtn's Scenic By-way and one mile to the NOC (Nantahala Outdoor Center, official site of 2013 World Free-style Canoe Competition). 20 minutes to Cherokee Casino and Native American museum and out-door drama center. 12 minutes to the Smokey Mountain Scenic Railroad and Polar Express in Bryson City. Several rivers and lakes for trout fishing, rafting, kayaking, tubing, or boating just minutes away. Enjoy the new zip-line tree top excursions in the Nantahala Forest, biking, hiking trails galore. Canoe or kayak on the Nantahala River minutes from the cabin. Most of all ENJOY YOUR STAY AND COME BACK OFTEN. *** If your group consist of more than 8 people, we offer the 'owners' cabin which is a smaller cabin that can sleep 4 . We call it the tree house as it sits up in the trees fairly close to the big cabin. It is just as lovely and ONLY rented when a larger group needs the extra space and never to different parties not from the same group. The tree house has a screened porch, outside deck and its own creek running beside it. It is 1 bedroom/1 bath and has a queen pullout sofa bed in the living room.Call for details if you need more space.

About Theresa Wigginton

I am a native Florida girl with an eye for adventure. I am a practicing attorney who is tired of the rat race (the rats were winning) and was looking for just the perfect place to retire. As a Floridian, I love the water but was tired of the 9 month of hot weather. I started searching for 'my little cabin by a creek' for several years but could not find the right spot. If it was quiet, didn't feel like living in a subdivision, had lots of nature, tall trees, and water close by to fish, swim and boat, it usually was too far from everything, hard to get to in winter, too remote for comfort, or was one of too many cabins advertised and made to look like a tacky Daniel Boone's place for tourist. One day I stumbled on this abandoned house that most would never look at twice and the rest is history. It was sitting lonesome in a cove surrounded by hills of giant hickory trees on three sides, not too visible from the Hwy, but just minutes from lots of rivers, lakes, trails, and 'adventure'. Strange was that the road was paved going in. Later I learned it was an abandon Hwy after the new Hwy 19/74 was built. The giant hickory trees were covered in vines, the creek was full of dead branches, overgrown, and the ravine in front was knee deep in Kudzu and hid the flowing stream. It had been on the market for several years, but perhaps others didn't see what I saw it could be. I couldn't get the vision of its potential out of my mind. Looking past the mildew, trash, vines, and Kudzu, and derelict appearance, I saw what it now has become, a stress-free retreat that replenishes my soul.

Theresa Wigginton purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Theresa Wigginton chose Bryson City

To me the ideal retreat would have to have a creek to enjoy, but not one that I had to walk to experience. This property has the most musical little stream I've ever heard in all my searches. I was intrigued that with open windows, in nearly every room in the house I could hear the bubbling steam. Lying in a cozy bed or rocking on the porches and reading a good book, being lulled to sleep by the sounds of falling water is my idea of heaven on earth. I made sure the two porches with wooden floors, had rocking chairs, and I envisioned people sitting with a good glass of wine, reminiscing about the adventures they had that day. When I saw the ravine initially overgrown with Kudzu vines, I could imagine wildflowers and weeping willows swaying in sync with the music of the creek. In planning the remodel I wanted outdoor swings to sit and talk with my friends or just a quiet place to be alone. With much diligence and a desire to make it a happy place again, I began a six months remolding 'adventure'. Every room has been considered in making it cozy, convenient, and comfortable. After clearing the kudzu vines and planting grass in the ravine, I promptly planted three weeping willows to grow tall and provide cool shade for picnics by the creek that flows down through it. I brought in tree surgeons to trim the neglected giant hickories and dogwood that abound on the property. I personally searched for the right furniture and decorations that would be the icing on the cake. I have diligently photographed the metamorphosis and am proud to say the worm turned into a beautify butterfly!

What makes this cabin unique

Two large screened porches, a year-round cascading stream flows from the waterfall and circles the cabin from back to front and can be heard no matter where you sit. The tall hickory trees and dogwoods keep the property cool and shaded no matter what the temperature. I love being close to so many fun places within minutes of the cabin. The surrounding forest always gives peace to any weary traveler.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Nice cottage home that sleeps up to 6 very comfortably. Has a short trail behind house that takes you to a pretty nice sized waterfall which we used for our family photos. House has no AC but does appear to have heat and since it was summer we didn't use heat. Paddle fans abound and with windows opened we had nice cool nights for sleeping. There is a creek that runs alongside house which offers a very nice sound when sitting in either one of the two screened porches. On the back porch there is a futon which one of us slept on during some of the stay just to hear the musical sounds of the water. Nice outdoor swings and seating too. Kitchen came with everything needed and appliances were new looking. Decor is simply stated but perfect for this atmosphere of mountain life. We did have wifi however some phone providers do not work from here at this time but that has nothing to so with the house or owners. Towels and bedding were luxury new. Bathrooms all new. Water wasnt hot in showers but that could be altered by hot water heater setting though we sidnt touch that dueing our visit. We would and will rent this again and highly recommend it. PS: The only downfall was that the property signage is not lit to find easily at night and it sits as you come around a mountain corner so having lights at the sign would be a great help. That's the only issue we had...and we managed it too

The cabin and the atmosphere was wonderful. We enjoyed our stay. The amenities were complete and up to date. Would have enjoyed more firewood and the house water is very sulfur smelling. The location was excellent for a get-away. Very cozy.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your response. I'm very pleased you enjoyed your stay. The water system is on a well and unfortunately depending on how much rain we have had, the minerals in the water can cause a sulfur smell from time to time as can happen with well water. We usually recommend that if preferred to buy a couple of gallons of bottle water for drinking during these times. While we try to supply plenty of fire wood by the fire pit , occasionally the supply will run low. WE replenish the stock from fallen trees on the property when available, but there are many places in and around Bryson City that sells bundles of wood very reasonable if you find you need extra. We welcome you back anytime and am so glad you otherwise enjoy our cabin and property.

Can not wait to go back to this Wonderful Waterfall Cove Cabin

  • 5 of 5
After having read the previous reviews and then going to the Waterfall Cove Cabin, there is not much more I can add. It is all the things everyone else described, but for my wife and I it was just a great place to relax, a great location to all types of activities. Was prefect. I am a trout fisherman and like a dunce, did not bring my fishing gear. Won't make that mistake again. Perfect area for trout. If you are into fishing, kayaking, gambling, scenic drives and views, trail hiking, or just realxing and enjoying your surroundings, I can highly reccomend this "Cabin" to you. When we were there it was turning cold, a beautiful day and weater, but my favorite thing, after several hours of driving to get there, was the gas fireplace. My wife thought she was not going to get me off the sofa in front of the fireplace. I really realaxed while I was on that sofa and I am a very active outdoor person. The location is perfect. Close enough to many activities, private enough to be quiet and not bothered. I do look forward to going back.
Thanks for having such a great place to stay in the mountains.

Owner's Response: Wow, such a nice review. I can see that you loved the cabin as much as we do and yes it is a very unique setting compared to other cabins in the area. It is a truly relaxing place to get rid of the day-to-day stress and you feel that as soon as you get there. WE welcome you back anytime for more of the same. Thank You, Theresa

GREAT WEDDING WEEK

  • 5 of 5
My daughter got married at Nantahala Village 9/20 so we spent the week at Waterfall Cove getting ready for the big day. It was a great experience. We love the cabin with the creek and all the outside areas for entertaining. We had the rehearsal party there Friday night and everyone loved it. There's a huge firepit and lots of outdoor seating. The house was wonderful and had everything we needed.
What a great week we had.

Perfect Mountain Getaway!

  • 5 of 5
Property has two homes and we decided to rent both to accommodate my family. Summer trip with family to escape the Savannah heat and this cottage was pure perfection, lots of trees, musical creek and our very own waterfall! Great location for rafting, zip lining and tubing of which we did all three. Both homes were super clean, and well equipped for all our needs. We felt very comfortable and welcomed by the owners who went out of their way with extras like lanterns to roam around at night, tiki lights, fire pit with wood and plenty of parking. We will return!

Enjoyed a week of staying in North Carolina.

  • 5 of 5
Really enjoyed spending a week at the cabin. Me, my wife, and our two grown kids had a great time. The cabin and surrounding groundwork were perfect. Being from Alabama we were a little apprehensive about being in the middle of August without Air Conditioning. As it turned out we never needed an Air Conditioner as the cabin stayed very cool and comfortable. We actually used the gas fireplace in the mornings! The sound of the the little brook running beside the cabin was very peaceful and relaxing. All the rock work surrounding the cabin really compliments the layout and it a nice touch.
Cons: Only 'con' is that the first night I forgot the step up/down into the ground bedroom - very fast leaning curve on that one and really not a 'con' on the cabin. I just put an object in front of the doorway the next night to assist my memory or lack thereof, but really didn't need it after the first night.
Pros: Everything else, no kidding.
Recommendations: A light on the driveway/address sign at night. We didn't get there till ~11:00 PM and with a little mist/fog we missed the turnoff even though the directions were spot on. Out GPS actually had the address incorrect by about 100 yards or so, which was the root cause of missing the driveway, so we spent a few more minutes backtracking slowly. Without the excellent directions we would not have found it in those driving conditions.
Note: For those into hiking or tubing, I recommend Deep C,reek Park ~3 miles N of Bryson City. They have good trails, waterfalls, and great tubing plus picnic sites.

Wonderful and simply delightful getaway!!!

  • 4 of 5
What a wonderful place to stay! My husband and our son and his family went for a wonderful week! My grandchildren, 8 and 9, had already squealed like little piggies when they saw the house and especially the waterfall! They spent most of their time up at the falls daming the creek and then breaking it so they could run run run back down to the little bridge over the creek at the house so they could see the "flood" they created traverse the creek! The owners, Loren and Theresa were wonderful to work with and although Theresa was away when we arrived, Loren was there to greet us and show us the house and the grilling area. Man oh man what a grill! My son LOVED it! Loren came over to have smores with us one night as well and he was just a joy to meet! His very old dog Ricky just melted my little grandaughters heart! My husband and I had the downstairs bedroom and I kept the windows opened at night so I could hear the wonderful creek sounds and be lulled to sleep! It rained one night and I was so happy! The front porch has a tin roof! It was just delightful to sit on the porch with our coffee and listen to the rain and reat from a weeks worth of running around. So much to do so close! Nantahala river and rafting is 5 minutes down the road and the Smokey Mountain Railroad is in Bryson Ciry about 15 minutes away. You must drive into the small city of Bryson! You can just park and visit the unique shops and the people are wonderful! I highly recommend this wonderful cabin! We will be back! Thanks so much Loren and Theresa for sharing your lovley home away from home with us!
