Living in many places around the world I settled in California in the early 2000's. But in 2007 I finally found a place to call home. Illahee, Washington is a unique area offering easy access to Seattle and the entire Pacific Northwest and Canada. Portland Oregon in 2.5 hours by car, Have even taken the Amtrak there and enjoyed that ride. Seattle is less than an hour by Ferry from Downtown Bremerton. Kitsap Mall and Illahee preserve just ads to the fantasy.
If there is a better place to Live, Relax and vacation all in the same area I have not found it.
I enjoy the Salt Water Puget Sound close to my front door, Mountain Rainier is great to look at and so much more...
Susan Williams purchased this house in 2007
The location is close enough to Seattle to enjoy Downtown but far enough away for peace and tranquility. The views in this location will satisfy just about everyone. The water, Mountain, Boaters, Dock, Seattle Ferry, Sea planes, greenery all in one quiet location is amazing.
This home allows us relaxation and rest we never though possible. We enjoy the long Seattle summers where there seems to be sunlight from as early as 6am to well pass 8pm into the evening. The winters bring a light snow that makes perfect postcards and the best place to spend your holidays. We enjoy this home through all seasons as am certain you will also.
The access to Seattle and Neighboring islands in perfect. Nearby Casino offers gaming to those so inclined. You will never forget the joy this place brings.
Trains & Ferry to Canada and Portland, Oregon less than 40 minutes away. Bring your Passport. Trader Joes within 2 miles, Silverdale downtown, mall and shopping within 3 miles
We spent Christmas with family nearby and stayed in the Illahee beach house. The home is conveniently located to all the places we needed to go and the city itself offered everything one would expect in a bedroom community. The house was spacious for my family of 4 and my 2 toddler boys had plenty of room to keep themselves and their toys entertained. We used the kitchen daily to make breakfast and were happy that it was equipped with everything we needed. The washer and dryer was a plus and the gas fireplace was an added bonus especially during this time of the year. The owner is a pleasure to do business with.
Looking to escape the bustle-and-hustle, the heat, the largely treeless landscape in Southern California; and to seek a new traveling and outdoor adventure for our teenage boys before their schools started, we came upon this vacation home in Washington through the referral of a kind friend. Located at a block away from the water’s edge, this house in Bremerton had a spacious living/dining area that featured a large, single glass-paneled window looking out onto the water: a perfect spot for catching a sunrise! We had a clear view not only of the waterways but also of the west-side of the Bainbridge Island all from the comfort of the couches in the living room which was the very hub to all other bedrooms and the kitchen. The kitchen had all of the essentials for preparing a meal and Safeway was only a short drive away whenever we needed something quickly.
From the house, we enjoyed taking a short walk across a two-lane street (i.e., Illahee Road) to visit the community dock, occasionally play with a friendly cat near a boat launch, and watch the numerous tiny fry gathering in the water at the end of the dock. If jogging is your thing, llahee Road offers a gentle incline, is shaded generously by tall evergreens on both sides, and runs parallel to the water for over a mile. During my morning runs, the traffic was light; the air was fresh, understatedly moist, and cool. The run was always pleasant and energizing. For a challenge, I also took on Oceanview Blvd which intersected Illahee road right by the house: it climbed a steep incline for less than a mile but enough to keep me huffing all the way up to the top before a breezy descent.
Like many others, we visited Seattle during our day trips to well-known places such as Pike-Place Market, Space Needle and such, but we took special delights in catching the ferry: taking in the views of the bountiful trees, water-front houses on the nearby islands; of the gorgeous waterways; and of the fellow-riders of the ferry. The trip was memorable and we could not wait to come back soon.
We rented this house for three weeks. We were visiting our daughter and two grandsons. This house was roomy with the one bedroom having twin beds for our grandsons. We had to make a Walmart run to equip the kitchen with a few more tools as we cooked a lot. The views are beautiful from the picture window. The location was great as we went to Seattle twice on the ferry. We also did the tour of the Turner Joy destroyer that's in the Bremerton harbor and took the kids to the Fountains water park in the harbor. We drove to Port Angeles, 1.5 hours and caught the ferry to Victoria BC for an overnight stay.
The biggest disappointment for this home is the road in front. It is a main thoroughfare for commuters and the traffic starts about 5am. If you sleep in the front bedroom it's noisy ( mattress needs to be replaced also, broken down) We had hoped for coffee outside on a deck in the AM to enjoy the view but no deck and road very noisy in morning.
Susan was easy to connect with and Jennifer is the local contact and she helped us with a couple issues during our stay.
This is a good place to stay, conveniently located to the places we wanted to visit. It is clean and well kept. The views of the water are dazzling! The owner and caretaker were both very helpful and responsive to our needs. The living/dining area are larger than the pics on the listing seemed to convey and attractive. The beds were comfortable, and the bath area was nice. Lots of hot water! We didn't cook while staying there, but the kitchen was stocked with everything necessary to make a meal, except food. We used the large capacity washer/dryer which was convenient. While there, we visited Port Townsend for a whale watch tour, Bremerton Harbor for the Naval Museum and Turner Joy, Fort Defiance Park and Zoo-there is also an historical town with reenactments and a go cart track. We spent some time at Illahee Park for fishing and beach combing and also fished off the dock in front of the house. We took the ferry into Seattle and went to the Aquarium and strolled along the pier area. The local people are friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our stay here. We would recommend it to others and return there ourselves.
I wanted to take my family to Seattle, but dreaded the downtown parking and the high hotel cost to accommodate a big family. This house in Bremerton served our needs well. It was private and clean. The drive to the ferry was easy. Thanks!
My husband & I travelled to Puget Sound to look at areas to potentially relocate and wanted a nice, pet friendly place to stay as a base to travel from. We found this home inviting. Had a slight snafu trying to get in (the front lock box wasn't functioning), it was dusk and raining. Thankfully I had the managers' phone numbers in my phone already and they guided us to the back of the home where we were able to get in. The back porch light was not working (the manager was trying to arrange an electrician), but we bought a Mag Light at Costco and solved that problem. The view is amazing with the bay out the front window along with Mt. Rainer in the distance. We took many walks with our little dogs and enjoyed the area. Loved the location and quickly got into Bremerton, where we parked and walked on to the ferry for an hour ride into downtown Seattle and walked around Pike Place Market and had some yummy chowder at Ivar's right on the water. We also enjoyed a local Brewery - Silver City Brewery - up in Silverdale, just a few minutes away -- not to be missed for great food and good beer! We enjoyed the large soaking, jetted "tub with a view" and the home has the amenities needed to relax and enjoy. We never figured out the fireplace with a corded plug coming out of the front and no apparent place to plug in, but the heaters were more than adequate. Nice place and the price is reasonable. The queen bed in the back bedroom was surprisingly comfortable and that room was very quiet! The oversized photographs on the walls add a nice touch for someone who enjoys volunteer service.
Downtown Seattle can be enjoyed by boarding the Bremerton to Seattle Ferry. In a 50 minute scenic ride you and your car, Motorcycle or bicycle will be dropped in the heart of bustling Seattle.
