Private Beach & New Home

  • 5 of 5

My family had a great time at this home. It truly was a private beach directly off the house to a lake which is very hard to come by. This was perfect for our four young nephews ages 2-8. The lake was clear and the children could walk directly into the water rather than having to jump from a pier. They could sit and play in the sand and not have to be old enough to swim independently to enjoy the lake. The lake was also deep enough and large enough to keep the adults entertained. There were an abundance of toys for young and old so we didn't have to bring our own. Even the less adventurous adults felt comfortable swimming in the clean and clear water. We rented the house for a week and our family visited for the 4th. There was plenty of room for the family to share a couple of days in the home and surrounding outdoor space. We even got rained in two days and didn't go stir crazy. Other than the beach our favorite aspect was the clean, new home. My family isn't used to the nature of a typical lake house...they don't travel. This home was perfect. New amenities with a true lakehouse feel.

Private and Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

Owner's description of this place is spot-on! Very private lake house with a private beach and a lake pretty much all to yourself. We saw maybe one or two other people on the lake all week. The lake house is equipped with everything you could possibly need to make your stay that more enjoyable and relaxing. We were 4 adults and 2 young children. Our kids loved the private sandy beach that had a ton of sand toys and other things to play with. The fishing was fantastic and there are plenty of boats to use. The location is conveniently located to local shops and grocery stores and only a 20 minute ride to Mystic, CT and local beaches like Misquamicut and Westerly. We will definitely be returning!

A priceless gem!

  • 5 of 5

I had never used homeaway before and was nervous about what to expect. This rental could not have been more perfect! It is tucked away in a small town in Rhode Island and is simply beautiful. You feel totally secluded and peaceful here but have the convenience of being a few miles from a pharmacy and Stop & Shop. The house was very clean with breathtaking views of the lake. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen was well-appointed and the air conditioning worked very well. The owner, Allison, was very helpful and responsive if I called her. The private beach was truly private. Except for a couple of fisherman floating by on canoe, we had the lake totally to ourselves. With the several watercraft available, beach fire pit for S'Mores fun, sand toys, gas grill and charcoal grill, there is plenty to do! Our 4 year old was in heaven, and so were we. We will absolutely be going back!

Relaxing Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time. It is an incredible spot - private and very peaceful. We have two small children and it was an easy place to spend time with them. The house is gorgeous and Bill and Allison were so responsive and kind. My husband accidentally left his wedding ring and they literally had found it and reached out about returning it to us before we had even gotten home ourselves. We definitely hope to go back soon!

The restored 1850 farm house is directy on Wincheck Pond. The water is crystal clear and our sandy beach is private and wonderful. The movie 'Moonrise Kingdom ' with Bruce Willis was filmed within walking of the house in 2012. We are surrounded by thousands of acres of Nature Conservancy,Audubon , State of RI and Boy Scout land. The hiking is gorgeous , the fishing fantastic and the village fun and friendly. We are 1/2 mile from Ell Pond, a National Natural Landmark. This preserve which is owned in a unique partnership between The Nature Conservancy and The Department of Environmental Management is one of the most strikingly beautiful hikes in Rhode Island. The yellow-blazed Narragansett Trail which is maintained by the Appalachian Mountain Club runs through the preserve and approximately 3 miles of hiking later ends at Ashville Pond to the ESE. The trail is quite steep and often slippery. After traversing through the jungle-like atmosphere of the rhododendron forest and walking over many and various rock formations you end up with a beautiful panoramic view high atop a glacial bedrock cliff. After fully exploring the scenic vistas and bold bedrock playground you can continue down a steep chasm with sheer walls and rocky steps to the floor of a cedar forest and wooded swamp. This path continues the Narragansett Trail. It winds through various unique vegetative zones, strange rock heaps, bogs, cedar, red maple and old growth forests. Deer, mink, otter, red fox, raccoon, opossum, cottontail rabbits, snowshoe hare, grey squirrel, red squirrel, ruffed grouse, wild turkey, woodcock, owl and hawk all are common sights at Ell Pond - a testimony to its pristine nature. The bobcat and coyote have also been reported in the area. Although this trail is relatively short it is moderate to difficult in its terrain. A normal, sure-footed adult should have no problems here though. This is not a place for very young children. Be ready to climb up and down many steep hills and rocky slopes before returning to The Lake House for a swim!
