Old Lyme House Rental Photos and Description

4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, Large screened-porch With Views Of Water From Most Rooms.

A vintage beach house that's been in our family since 1945. It was built in 1924, modernized in the 1950s and lovingly maintained/updated by our family ever since, with new roof, foundation, etc. as needed. We visit twice a year to open and close, and rent in between. Located in last community before the undeveloped Griswold point reserve at the mouth of the CT River. Guarded entry to four street, safe walking community of 100 houses. New community recreation center. Beautiful White Sand Beach is only 15 miles from New London and 25 miles to Mystic, CT, 2.5 hours from NYC., 35 miles north of New Haven's MTA stop.

We have a local real estate manager at Shore and Country Real Estate that manages the property for us

and is available for support.

About Maya Blue

My grandparents bought this house when they lived in New York City. They spent the entire summers here with my mother and aunt. My grandfather would take the train up on the weekends. Now my aunt and uncle own it and rent it during the season. They spend a week or so at the end and beginning of the summer, vacationing and making improvements on the house. I help them with the online listings like this.

Maya Blue purchased this house in 1945

Why Maya Blue chose Old Lyme

My mother, aunt and myself and our families have been coming to this house since we were babies. It's a safe and special place that still shuts off the water for six months during the winter. The beach house is a warm and welcoming, well loved home full of lots of happy memories.

What makes this house unique

The mile long walk to Griswold point, a bird sanctuary protected by the Nature Conservancy. The small front lawn and the house are shaded by 2 large maple trees. There is a wraparound screened-in porch where one can watch the water and listen to the waves. Tenants can take part in a recreation program for kids and there's a new rec center. White Sands Beach is a quiet and safe community, great for the summer and peaceful and beautiful in the spring and fall.

Beach House Peacefulness

  • 5 of 5
We rented this quaint beach house for the first time this summer. We only live 45 minutes away from it but we didn't feel like dragging our 3 small kids into a long summer car ride to the Cape in order to spend some time at the beach and liked the option of running home or to the office if necessary. The house was everything we could need, big enough, clean and stocked with all the amenities of home. The location was absolutely perfect, 50 feet from a lovely, clean beach and the ice cream man made stops several times per day. The private community it's located in was safe for our kids to walk or ride in the street and everyone was friendly. This was a perfect Staycation for us and we look forward to many summers at "the beach house".

Spacious beach house with everything you need in a wonderful location. The beach is lovely and you can walk along the beach past the bird sanctuary all the way to the Connecticut River. I loved sitting on the big wrap-around porch and looking at the water and the activity. Many activities and restaurants nearby. When I could drag myself off the beach, we went to Mystic and the Casinos. From the upstairs bedroom you can lie in bed and see the beach and listen to the waves. You won't be disappointed

My kids loved this place at any age. We never worried about wind or waves, quiet at night, peaceful.
I could fish early or late from the beach, just for fun. migratory bird layover! The best!

Second to last house before the beach in a great community.

  • 5 of 5
I've stayed here early in the summer for the past couple of years, and it is great. The house sits right across the street from the beach which you can walk to see the mouth of the Connecticut River into the Long Island Sound. The location is excellent, and is the quickest real beach to get to from where I live in Vermont. All of the bedrooms are on the second floor and we would leave the windows open at night and hear the waves as we went to sleep.

The house has older trim and appliances but they are maintained excellently by the owners. What really matters in that sort of situation is that they have working Wifi, not always the case in rentals like this. The large open concept living room has two doors onto the wrap around porch where we would hang out whenever the weather was not so great to go to the beach.

I have relatives that get a house on Cape Cod every year, and they always invite us there, but the trip here is a thousand times better. You really can have a leisurely and relaxing vacation.

Been coming all my life...

  • 5 of 5
Since my grandparents bought the place and I've been coming on and off for 47 years, I'm probably biased.

Over the years the community has changed from the old days of almost all people being owners, to more and more renters. What has not changed is the safe family community feeling, the beach being close enough to go back to the house for a soda from the beach without breaking a sweat, the undeveloped walk to the point and the sublime feeling of being able to spend an entire week in a bathing suit and hat with only occasional car rides for supplies where shoes are needed.

Family paradise!

  • 5 of 5
We stay this house every year as the owners of the house are our relatives. This year was our first with a toddler and WOW, what an amazing experience for all of us! The house is comfortable, SAFE, and conveniently designed for even small children. You can carry the 25-pound baby in-arms from the front door to "the world's largest sandbox and bathtub" in under a minute, in your bare feet. You can get the whole family to the bird sanctuary in twenty minutes, including pushing a jogging stroller on the beach. We have had many close sightings of wild birds in their habitat: ospreys, herons, swans, piping plovers, Arctic terns, and more. The enclosed porch offers a spacious "outdoor" setting even for rainy days. The proximity of the conveniences and culture offered by "civilization" (supermarket, quaint Old Lyme town homemade ice cream shop, library) makes this place feel like our home away from home.
