Heath Anderson purchased this house in 2005
Has been a goal to own this house for over two decades.
Owning, restoring, renovating a 115 year old home has been challenging and rewarding.
I booked this house for my family to stay in while visiting. There were 6 adults and 3 kids and room to spare!! Dealing with Heath (home owner) was amazing! He's more than willing to help and go the extra mile to make your stay perfect. I would highly recommend this place, my whole family enjoyed every moment!
We spent the long weekend at the "Castle". Heath met us and walked us through his excellent restored home. Everything was here and we enjoyed ourselves living the good life in vernon. The family marvelled at how the house was appointed and there was no waiting for a bathroom. Three are available, all with showers! A real plus for teenagers. The kitchen is very well equipped. I look perked coffee and there was a percent just for me. Even some of the small appliances are vintage. Large fridge to store all the food you could eat and we really enjoyed using the back patio for an evening BBQ. We all would enjoy the evenings on the veranda or second floor balcony off the hallway. An excellent way to enjoy the setting sun!
Heath has lived in Vernon his entire life and has a knowledge of most anything you can ask about. We are planning to go back as the value, space and heath's knowledge make the stay a memorable time. If you want a great, quiet place to stay for a family in Vernon, try the Castle! You won't be sorry. Thank you Heath, we will be back to get the map of the twisty roads!
What a wonderful place to stay. This house is fully furnished. You can move in and live! It really feels special to drive up, walk up to the beautiful front door, open up and see.......the huge staircase up stairs, the hallway into the dining area.....steel ceiling and what a kitchen. The bathrooms have claw foot tubs and awesome showers. The comfort is astounding and the value is almost unbelievable. We planned to stay at another resort the following week and my wife did not want to go. She wanted to stay here for our second week. It was enough of a holiday to simply live in this beautiful house. We have already recommended it to friends. We will stay again. Thank you Heath.
Let's start by saying that the photos on the website, nice as they are, cannot begin to convey how wonderful this property is. We loved our stay and look forward to returning.
A few thoughts, in order of our experience ...
Booking: I found the owner responsive and the booking process hassle-free. We had to make a date change, and Heath was very accommodating.
Arrival: Wow, what a welcome! The house was beautifully decorated for our Christmas stay. Heath welcomed us warmly, showed us around and gave us all the information we needed for our stay. First impression was absolutely amazing.
Location: Set in the prettiest part of Vernon, perfect for visiting family in town and very convenient to the access road for Silver Star (downhill) and Sovereign Lake (cross-country) ski areas. Easy walking distance to downtown shopping. Convenient off-street parking. And spectacular views of the small city, the surrounding hills, and even Okanagan Lake in the distance.
The house: This is a lovely 1898 house, brought up to modern standards in terms of insulation, wiring and appliances without losing any of its charm. The house has wonderful gathering places for the whole family (the dining room was my favourite!) and quiet nooks for getting away with a good novel. Lovingly restored and re-purposed antique furniture adds to the experience. The beds are high and comfortable. The three bathrooms are spacious and well-equipped. Lots of hot water -- no supply problems here!
The amenities: Everything you could want has been anticipated and thoughtfully provided. For the cooks: every appliance (small and large), spices, mixing bowls, potato masher, turkey baster, measuring cups, excellent pots and pans. For the diners: plates and silverware for many people, wineglasses, placemats, napkins, salt and pepper grinders, etc. For relaxing: books and videos, a great TV, fast and reliable WiFi. Comfy bedding, cozy bath towels.
Value for your dollar: I thought the price was an absolute bargain for the space, amenities and overall experience.
In summary: The thoughtful organization of the house and its amenities, the genuinely warm hospitality of the owner, the spectacular location and the historic significance of the home combine to make this a truly extraordinary vacation rental property. Factor in the very reasonable price, and you'll be astonished. And by staying here, you are supporting the preservation of a Vernon landmark. Win-win-win!
What an incredible house, I can't wait to go back. A beautiful mixture of antiquity and modern design, it was a treat to stay in such a masterpiece. The bed was very comfortable too, which is a big key to a perfect vacation! Absolutely perfect place for a relaxing getaway!
The house was spectacular and we had a great time! We have rented many vacation homes among our travels and this one has to top them all. The antiques through out the house is an awesome touch , we will most definetly be back and would love to make it an annual vacation spot. The information listed on the web site was accurate and the pictures were exactly how the house is. The owner was very nice and accommodating while checking us in and had any information a person may need while visiting Vernon. I highly recommend this place to anyone that is thinking of staying near or in Vernon. We have always wanted to check out an old Victorian house but never dreamt we would be able to stay in one that is in such pristine shape, We look forward to our next stay there.
