The Guest Suite in this elegant, split plan apartment in the Historic District of San Miguel de Allende (steps from the Angela Peralta Theatre, see Map) - is a small, fully furnished bedroom, with it's own full bathroom. It has twin or king bed flexibility (see Video). It has a desk with chair, an upholstered Queen Ann chair, 2 footstools, 3 lamps, and French doors opening on a flowered balcony over a small garden. Cool in summer, cooler in winter. A heater, a fan, and a white noise machine are provided. It has a well-appointed, full bath and storage space. You will have a Vonage phone, wireless HS Internet, a flat screen TV with basic cable, and use of the washer. All linens (sheets are ironed), towels, paper products, are included. There is purified water throughout the apartment. You enter the complex (please see the Video!) through a courtyard with flowers, trees and a lovely fountain. A doormen provides further security. There is a huge roof terrace with trees, an herb garden, and views almost to Madrid; guests enjoy it for morning coffee, to watch the hot air balloons, entertain friends, and sun bathing. The ambiance of the apartment is north African or Morrocan, so shade is valued and blackout curtains are available at many of the windows for the afternoon sun. I have original paintings and Persian carpets, and the light here is very strong. This is a home, not a hostel, B&B, or pension. Sex, age, and sexual orientation are irrelevant. The primary owner is a large, affectionate Siamese cat. Secondary owner lives in the Master Suite, rarely using the living room and not into cooking. The kitchen is available for occasional snacks. Living room privileges are negotiable. Due to it's location, around the corner from the Jardin, the Guest Suite is ideal for people wanting to get out and get to know San Miguel, the Historic District, and all they have to offer; it isn't suited to people who want to spend a lot of time in the apartment. No subletting, no pets, no smoking except on the roof terrace; overnight guests limited, with prior permission, and at the rate stipulated. NOTE: VRBO requires a 'nightly' rate, but I do not rent by the night. You can stay the days you want to, but your rate will be for a week (or a month). Please, please check the Calendar for availability, and the NOTES (scroll down to the bottom under RATES) for a clearer picture of the Rates.
I grew up in Michigan on the lake and graduated from the U of Michigan, flew for PanAm, taught school in Latin American, married, and lived for 17 years in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad in the West Indies. My son is a commercial airline captain and lives in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. I have a granddaughter who lives in Barbados. My sister, who is blind, lives here in San Miguel. I have wonderful help - almost family - here: Magdalena, who takes care of my food and the apartment, is one of the most likeable people you will ever meet. I love San Miguel and the Mexican people and feel fortunate every day I'm allowed by the Mexican government to live here.
Anna Griffith purchased this apartment in 2003
The location of the apartment, in my opinion, and for me, is unequaled. (Due to this location, the guest suite will appeal MOST to people who know San Miguel and want 'puro centro'.) I've lived in Paris and in London and this is the closest thing to that type of urban living, without the staggering cost. I'm an urban person and like to walk to most everything - safely and without sweating. I have churchbells, parades, fireworks, people who make eye contact and exchange daily greetings with me; I know my neighborhood and many of my neighbors. My yoga class, offered 3 times a week, is around the corner at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio. There are 3 alternative medicine sources within a block, Starbuck's is around another corner, and if the wind is blowing just right I can hear the mariachi's playing in the Jardin on weekends. San Miguel was recently voted 'Best City in the World 2013' by Conde Nast Traveler; we may not have the Louvre or the Crown Jewels or a Formula One race track, but we've got a combination of lifestyle and climate that is exceptional. Most of the expatriate, permanent residents here literally had the world to choose from and, often, after trying many other famous places, chose San Miguel.
There are only so many rooms (B&Bs, hotels, etc.) in this prime location. Most of them start at $100 to $250USD a night - many times the price of the Guest Suite, and there's no living room, and no one to ask questions. People who value comfort, elegance, security, and location, over a slight loss of privacy, really like the Guest Suite.
Endless restaurants, films, lectures, concerts, classes in dance, art, language, cooking. Two open air markets and an artisan's market are easy walking distance. Organic Market on Saturdays. Horseback riding to pyramids or just day rides. Day trips to Mexico City, Queretaro, Guanajuato, Pozos, Atontonilco. Sunday House and Garden tours of elegant homes. Beautiful hot springs in the European style, with gardens and lunch.
