This is really a special place. It was built in the 1750s and is one of the oldest buildings in Granada. It underwent a 3-year restoration to bring it back to it's original splendor. The house has original floors, ceilings and doors dating back to it's construction along with all the modern amenities one would need.

Centrally located. Just one block off the main park. Casa Blanca is tucked in behind the town's main cathedral and on Granada's main pedestrian street and restaurant row, Calle Calzada. The house has the traditional colonial design with a central courtyard full of beautiful tropical plants and a deep and cool 40 ft long swimming pool. Once you step into the house, you're in your own little private paradise.

There's no word to describe that place, this is paradise! We have rented houses all over the world and this is without any doubt the best one ever. Everything is perfect, you don't even need to read all the reviews, just book it, you will not be disappointed. It's spacious, incredibly clean, the pool is huge, the staff awesome. You can't beat the location. We rented a car and parked it in the street everyday, there are people outside watching day and night for a small tip so no worries there. Guillermo was so easy to work with, answers any questions you may have. We used his recommendations for the tour to Mombacho volcano and we had a great guide, also for the tour to Las Isletas and it was perfect. I so wish I was still there. Highly recommended!!

Owner's Response: Anne, Thank you for all the kind words. I so wish I were there right now too!! I'd much rather be in sunny warm Granada swimming in the pool followed by a nap in a hammock. Instead I have to deal with another week of winter. Argh. :-)

Can I stay here permanently?

This home is literally a work of art. We arrived here from Ometepe and were blown away by the quality of the home and its furnishings, the amazing pool in the courtyard, and all the little details which have been thought of ahead of time (e.g. plenty of towels, coffee, bottled water). One of my friends commented that she wondered when someone was going to come and kick us out! It was that nice.

I'm extremely obsessive about cleanliness and order. This house was so clean, I didn't even think twice about walking anywhere (even in the outdoor courtyard) without shoes. The housekeeper did great work. The furnishings, art, and other decorations are tasteful, high-end, and relaxing. It is clear that the owners have been very thoughtful in decorating the house.

Location can't be beat! You can walk anywhere you'd want to go. I can't imagine a better place to be--right next to the town square AND a row of restaurants and shops.

I got great help booking drivers through GPS, and I found both the owner and GPS very helpful and attentive. The driver was on time and professional.

If you're considering staying in a hotel in Granada, you're nuts! This house will make your vacation. I've stayed in numerous luxury properties through VRBO over the past 10 years in the USA, Central America, and the Caribbean. This is the highest quality rental I've had.

Owner's Response: Jennifer - We are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay! We worked hard to get the house in shape for guests; notes like yours makes us feel like it was all worth it. Please come back and stay with us again. Guillermo & Melanie

The housekeeper, Guadalupe, is the best. Helpful, funny, honest and competent. The owner is honest, immediately available and responsive to questions, issues and feedback. The house itself had everything we needed for 9 people to stay comfortably for 2 weeks. A/C, full kitchen, washer and dryer, gorgeous courtyard with a pool and more. If not for the horrendous attitude of the mgt. company at check-in it would have been perfect. If the owner hasn't changed companies already, he will soon --

Owner's Response: Hi Mike. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at our little oasis in Nicaragua! And we agree completely about Guadalupe. We love her and think of her as family now. However we are really sorry that you had a challenging check-in experience with the management company. In all the years we've used them, this is the first time we have had a complaint. We will make sure to address any issues that came up so they don't happen in the future.

This villa was absolutely breathtaking! Each room was amazing well kept and the furniture was beautiful. Not only was the villa wonderful but Guillermo was super helpful. He made the stay so effortless. He got us in contact with drivers to pick us up from the airport, take us to san juan and drop us off at the airport too! He also sent us tons of tips about great restaurants, sightseeing and lots of other useful information. It was amazing and I wish we could have stayed longer! Wonderful!!!!

I will admit it, I obsessively searched VRBO for a house in Granada. The reviews were so prosaic it seemed too good to be true. I called Guillermo and asked a bunch of questions to make sure this was all for real and he patiently answered every question so I could be confident in our choice. As others have stated, Casa Blanca is even better than it looks in the photos (if you can imagine). We were so sad to leave after 4 days. Everything was so just perfect for our group of 4 adults and 3 kids. We walked in and all said WOW, one of our friends who arrived a bit after us said when she go out of the van and saw me walking toward the front room she thought they were stopping at a hotel to meet us first. It was all so awesome; location on the Calzada just behind the park and cathedral, beautiful landscaped courtyard, refreshing pool, interesting furniture and art, well equipped bedrooms, hammocks, full kitchen, BBQ Grill, Guadalupe the awesome housekeeper,we even had the New Years Fireworks show from upper bedroom deck (with all 3 kids sleeping through midnight marching bands outside their windows and fireworks due to great air-conditioning). GPS the local property manager was very helpful and responsive too . Every experience was fantastic! Plus, all of Guillermo's tips about town and day trips were extremely valuable. It is very easy to explore the city from this location and easy to take day trips as well. We had a great two week trip to Nicaragua and Guillermo and Casa Blanca where a big part of this. We really like to visit different places on our vacations but this is one place that would be very easy to return to as a base before exploring other parts of Nicaragua.
Thank you again for helping us have a vacation to remember in the best of ways!

Owner's Response: Dear Cathy - We are so incredibly happy that you enjoyed your visit to Grandada and your stay at Casa Blanca. We worked hard for years to try to create a beautiful and peaceful home in Granada - reading about you stay makes us feel like all that work was worth it - Thank you. Also very glad that you got to enjoy the New Year in Granada, when everyone tries to outdo their neighbors with their own fireworks display and marching band! Please let ust know when you want to come back and visit. You'll always be welcome. Guillermo & Melanie

Drawn by year-round warm weather, colonial-era architecture and the freshwater Lake Nicaragua, travelers from around the world are flocking to Granada. Eco-tourists will love visiting the dormant Mombacho volcano, sailing on the lake and ziplining through the trees. Fans of spa treatments and shopping will find plenty to do, too.

Nicaragua travel tops the New York Times’ best in travel for 2013. Ranked third out of forty-six select destinations, Nicaragua made it to the top of the list. Nicaragua is a country of thriving culture, history, wildlife and boasts a landscape dominated by pristine rainforest and miles & miles of serene sandy shoreline. Its avenue of volcanoes is stunning and protected by national parks. Conscious of their natural treasures, “eco” is both practiced and preached in Nicaragua. Nicaragua Lake is vast; it rivals that of Lake Titicaca in its beauty and grandeur. The lake’s Ometepe Island is the largest freshwater island in the world. It is composed of two volcanoes and an isthmus that connects them. Hiking here is a must. Beyond its natural features, Nicaragua’s nicest colonial city, Granada, offers great dining, exquisite cathedrals and museums from the Spanish era.
