100 + YEAR OLD MISSION REVIVAL HOME

Long Beach House Rental Photos and Description

2 Story historical landmark home

Our home is a 4 bedroom, 2 1/3 bath house (3000 square feet) across the street from the beach. It's has cherrywood beams downstairs and built-in cabinets with glass doors in the dining room. The dining room has a beautiful cherrywood table with seating for 6. The living room has a fireplace along with ample sitting for relaxing and watching TV. The kitchen is fitted with dishes, silverware, pots, pans, electric skillets, slow cooker and everything else a person could want to cook a fabulous meal. We have a toilet next to the kitchen. Upstairs you will find one bedroom has twin beds. Another room has a double bed with a loft (that will sleep one comfortably. The next room has a queen bed and a partial ocean view. There is a bathroom that services all three bedrooms. The sunroom is located next to the master bedroom in the front of the house. It is a sunny and relaxing room, and I must say it is my favorite room in the house. Our master bedroom is next door to the sunroom. It has a queen bed in it with a loveseat for relaxing. This room has an en-suite with a jacuzzi tub built for two. The sunroom and master suite have french doors leading out to a balcony. We have parking for one car inside our gated (remote control)driveway and also parking for one car in our driveway. You will find that having parking is a real asset in Long Beach.

My husband and I are retired. My husband was a vice president of human resources for major corporations. He grew up in Tucson, Arizona and graduated from the University of Arizona. My background was in payroll and also human resources. We have 6 children and 14 grandchildren. (a lot). We love this home and have had many wonderful holidays and dinners with family and friends. We entertain regularly and have had anywhere from 10 to 100 people at the house at one time. We also have a beautiful home in the Palm Springs area (the desert of southern california).

Doris Bartlett purchased this house in 1996

I grew up in the Long Beach area and loved it. It is very rare to find a 100 year old, 2 story home with an attic and a full cellar (part of which we have made into a wine cellar) in Southern California. The home has history that dates back to World War II. It is a historical landmark in Long Beach. We have a marble fireplace in the living room for those cooler winter nights.

This charming home sleeps 8 - 10 people. There is a fenced and gated patio that runs the full length of the front of the house. We normally have our coffee out there and drinks in the afternoon. There are 2 tables there with seating for 8. The home is centrally located to many attractions. You can be in Hollywood within the hour, Santa Monica in 45 minutes, Malibu within an hour. Santa Barbara is a 2 hour drive, but well worth it. Then heading south, you can reach Orange County (Irvine) within 45 minutes or Laguna Beach within 45 minutes. San Diego is an hour and a half away. For those surfers of the world, you can be surfing within 15 minutes in Huntington Beach or further down the coast in San Clemente within 45 minutes.

GOOD RENTAL FOR FAMILY GATHERING

  • 4 of 5
Doris and Joe were fantastic to work with! They were both flexible, accessible, kind, generous with their home and appreciated Joe checking in with us during our stay. Jeff and Jose, who live on the property, were super friendly, helpful and gave us space and privacy, but there if you needed anything. Street parking is tough - great that the house has 2 parking spots. If you have more than 2 cars - you will have to wrestle for street parking - especially on street sweeping days. Master bathroom is huge, but the bathroom that is shared with the other 3 bedrooms is small to share. 3rd bedroom doesn't have a closet - a perfect room for kids! Main living area is large and open which was great for a small gathering we hosted. Was wonderful to have our dogs with us and they enjoyed hanging out on the front porch and watching all the people and dogs walk by. Ocean Blvd. is busy (and noisy - pack ear plugs) so we were cautious with the dogs coming in and out of the fenced in areas. We had a great vacation and the house provided us the perfect location to friends and events the week we were there!

A WONDERFUL VACATION RENTAL

  • 5 of 5
We had a great time staying at this house. The house was cleaned and cozy; It felt like home away from home. My family really enjoyed the gated area in front of the house. The owners were very nice and responsive. Their flexibility with check in/out time was greatly appreciated. My family and I didn't have any problems during our entire stay. We would be definitely staying here again. Thanks for a wondeful and memory filled vacation.

Owner's Response: My husband and I try to accomodate each guest on a individual basis with their special requests: one being an early check-in or sometimes a later checkout. During the time we have been "sharing" our home with guests, we have had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful people.

DEFINITELY A MUST SEE!!!! THE PICTURES ONLINE DO NOT DO THIS PLACE JUSTICE

  • 5 of 5
Definitely a must see!!!!
The pictures online do not do this place justice. Doris and Joe from the start were very friendly, hospitable, and welcoming. This beautiful home is not only well maintained but also has a very warm, inviting vibe. The home comfortably housed 4 couples and 4 little kids during our stay. The home was very clean and had plenty of amenities, including extra blankets, sheets, towels, pots and pans, and even boogie boards if needed. The location is perfect as well - less than a mile from the convention center, the Queen Mary, and the Aquarium. Joe was also nice enough to point out some great eats nearby. Overall, after our great experience, I cannot imagine overpaying for a hotel again. I would most definitely come back if we find ourselves in Long Beach again.

CALIFONIA CHRISTMAS

  • 4 of 5
Christmas 2013 will long be remembered for the fabulous time we spent in this charming, rambling period house in Long Beach. There was plenty of room for my extended family including Grandmother, adult children and brother and sister-in-law to enjoy both communal living and to have space of our own.The house was well equipped with an abundance of linen and towels and the washing machine and tumble drier in the basement proved useful. The house very closely resembles the description provided on the booking website and we found it to be an excellent location and an ideal base from which to explore Southern California.
We were met by the charming home owner who introduced us to all the house has to offer (including some quirks you'd expect from a period house of this style). He was also helpful and informative offering many tips to enhance our stay. While we did not need to contact the owner, it was comforting to know that the offer of any advice and assistance was so clearly available.
Step out of the house and turn right and a 10 min walk along the beautiful sea front takes you to Shoreline Village with its charming mixture of eateries with views of the extensive modern marina and the historic ships and boats including the Queen Mary. Signal Hill at night to see the city lights sprawling out is well worth a visit.
We also explored the many beach areas including Venice Beach, Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach and further afield to Santa Monica and Santa Barbara. Hollywood and all the major attractions of Los Angeles are within easy reach although it is essential to have a rental car to take full advantage of the many things to see and do.
We also made an excursion to San Francisco , which was fantastic , but be aware of the distance involved. If we did it again we would consider a stop over half way as it was a long drive.
Hope this review has been of some help. We would definitely recommend this charming period property - unless you demand ultra-modern accommodation.

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

  • 5 of 5
Having lived in Long Beach in the 70s and 80s, I was familiar with this home as a passerby and lived less than a half mile away. An opportunity arose where we needed a rental to attend a friend's 60th birthday party in Long Beach, so I did a quick search on pet-friendly rentals and this popped up as one of the options. I'm glad we selected it.

It is as charming as the photos indicate and very well maintained and well-stocked with appliances, etc. Off-street parking in the neighborhood is a must and this property provides it behind a secure gate. The outdoor spaces are numerous and provide casual seating for comfortable get-togethers.

In previous visits to the area, we've stayed in a few other properties. Those were positive experiences ... but this one tops them all and is definitely on the list for a repeat. The owners were very communicative and attentive.

LOVING LONG BEACH

  • 5 of 5
We really enjoyed the roomy house and all the classic features. We were too busy to really stay in bed, but with all the activity and friendly folks in the area, we had a great time. The owner was responsive to our needs and the guys who helped us were fabulous. They were able to point us out to the places that were out of the way but total gems.
Hopefully one day we get back there with all my nieces, nephews and kids for a great time. What a nice area to just be yourself and enjoy.
Thanks! <3

Notes:
Only 2 mission revival homes made it through the 1920's Long beach earthquake and ours is one of them. It is a historical landmark. We have a picture on the fireplace mantel showing the house back in the early days. Just a little tidbit: the man who built the house was called James Beer. Because of that my husband always refers to our house as the 1st beer house in Long Beach.
