Great

  • 4 of 5
I loved the house from the start because of the beads on the fence! It was a welcoming place inside, too with wood floors, appropriate furnishings, movies to play and books to read. The patio garden in the back was a nice shady spot to enjoy a cup of coffee.

Uptown New Orleans reunion

  • 4 of 5
I stayed with three friends, all of whom were friends from the late 80s when we all lived in New Orleans. This was a Jazz Fest reunion for us and we enjoyed the time in the house. Our only concern was the kitchen table seems to be losing its top and needs to be glued down or otherwise secured so it doesn't fall on someone. We hung out in the dining area and living room but were mostly out and about and loved the convenience to the uptown restaurants and friends we visited.
We agreed with other reviewers and it would be nice to be able to stand up for a shower. Also, if coming to the house from the west, turn down Zimple from Carrollton to get to the house because Plum is really in need of resurfacing and watch out for the car eating pothole if you head out towards Broadway on Zimple. (The street conditions can't be helped by the owner, we used to live there so we are well aware - just a heads up)

Owner's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at my home! I had the kitchen table fixed immediately after I received this review. My handyman lives in the neighborhood and can make repairs right away. I only wished you had called me during your stay so you would not have had to endure a wobbly table. If I had known, I would have addressed it sooner. My apologies.

You are not the first person to notice that maintaining the streets in New Orleans is not a high priority. Unfortunately, this is one of the things the city is known for. My neighborhood is no exception, though I prefer to think of the potholes as speedbumps as they are very effective at slowing down the traffic through the neighborhood.

The antique claw footed tub in the bathroom is fitted with a handheld shower attachment. However, at this time, the house does not have a standard stand-up shower. Because of this, guests must have a leisurely, enjoyable bath (bath salts are provided). Most of my guests visit to enjoy the quiet pace of the city so this is not a problem, however I will be adding a seperate shower in the future for those who like a faster start to their day.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and please feel welcome to call me the next time you visit New Orleans!

Cute and Cozy!

  • 5 of 5
We saw the reviews for this house and felt comfortable renting. We were initially enticed by the price and location. Upon arrival, we met the wonderful woman who had just finished cleaning the house for us. Even she was warm and welcoming. The outside is adorable and the porch was such a great place to relax. Once we entered the house, it was love at first sight! The inside of the house is wonderful. The style is very New Orleans and the owner is incredibly accommodating. There are movies and legos for children and the house is stocked for anything you might need. I forgot our pack-and-play and we arrived to find one waiting for us in the closet. We walked to Adam's Grocery for AMAZING Po' Boys and took the streetcar downtown. There are tons of amazing restaurants within walking distance and the only regret was that we only had three days to visit. The zoo is within blocks and there are a ton of playgrounds in the area. Even the neighbors are friendly and helpful if you aren't sure where to go. This was an amazing experience and we are very excited to return!

relaxing!

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful time. The house was lovely and in a great neighborhood... not too fancy and very family-oriented and very quiet. Walking distance to the bus/streetcar routes, and lots of great restaurants. We didn't have a car and had a young child with us and found it very easy to get around on public transportation. Contrary to its reputation, the city is a great place to take young kids - very child-friendly and lots of stuff to do. If we come back to New Orleans we will definitely stay here again.

A big plus for us was the thoughtful bag of Legos in the cabinet... my 5 year old was happy as could be. And we all loved the tub.

One thing to note if you have young kids, the bedrooms are pretty far away from each other, and not really within hearing distance. This could be an issue if your child tends to wake up during the night. But it's a plus if you want to be away from older children or fellow travelers.

This is the perfect place to explore all that uptown New Orleans has to offer. Four blocks from the historic St. Charles streetcar line that can take you downtown to the French Quarter. Charming neighborhood, just blocks from the intersection of St. Charles and Carrollton Avenue, is a great spot for families or university parents. Five block walk to Tulane, eight blocks to Loyola. Maple Street, Oak Street and Riverbend business districts are all within just a few blocks.

There are dozens of cafes and restaurants within a short walk of the house! Adam's Street Grocery makes the best poboys in town and is only 2 blocks away. Satsuma's on Maple is three blocks away and is great for a casual brunch or coffee. Jacques Imo's has some of the best New Orleans style food around and it's right next to the world famous Maple Leaf music club on Oak Street.
