THE WATERFRONT COTTAGE - KAYAKS, BEACH, FIREPIT, DOCK, PRIVATE WATERFRONT

Grand Haven House Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-10)

The Waterfront Cottage has 110 feet of private waterfront! It is a lovely and spacious 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home. There is a private beach area right in the back yard. Hammocks and kayaks await your arrival. There is a large deck which offers majestic views, ping pong table, basketball hoop, large professionally manicured lawn, a firepit outside and a fireplace inside, a jetted (Jacuzzi) bathtub, and central air conditioning. (Not all local cottages have air conditioning).

The Waterfront Cottage is an awesome place! We rent it by the week between May 1, 2015 and Labor Day 2015. During the months of September 2014 through April 2015 it is only available by the month.

The Waterfront Cottage is large enough to comfortably accomodate ten people. Yet it is cozy enough to provide a wonderful, romantic venue for just the two of you. It is located on picturesque Pottawattomie Bayou Lake in Grand Haven, Michigan. Pottawattomie Lake is connected to Lake Michigan via the Grand River. It is warmer and also calmer than Lake Michigan. It is the most popular body of water on the Grand Haven side of the river. You can splash and play in it, explore its coves and shoreline with the kayaks, or sit on the dock and fish for blue gills, bass and perch. Or you can lounge in the hammocks by the beach and catch some warm rays of summer sunshine as you watch passing kayaks and canoes, ski boats, pontoons, stand-up paddle boarders and a few fishing boats.

There are 3 bedrooms in this home. The spacious Master Bedroom has a KING bed and walk-in closet. The furniture in this bedroom is a cheerful cottage style in refreshing creamy-white colors. Bedroom #2 also has a KING bed. Its motif is French Provencial. Both of these bedrooms have picture windows that overlook the awesome lake. Bedroom #3 is a smaller bedroom and has a stately queen bed. We supply the bedding.

There are also 2 twin pull-out sleepers and 1 queen pull-out sleeper.

There are 2 full bathrooms. One of them has his and hers double sinks and a large jetted (Jacuzzi) bathtub. The second bathroom also has a jetted tub. We supply the bath towels but ask that you bring you own beach towels.

The spacious, bright living room measures 23 feet by 17 feet! It has a cathedral ceiling with ceiling fan, a 32 inch TV with cable and a VCR/DVD player. There is also wireless internet. Large picture windows in the living room highlight terrific views of the water. You might see a gaggle of geese, a few graceful swans, a blue heron, a red tailed hawk, turkeys, a red-headed woodpecker, a king fisher or a variety of many other birds. Several of our guests have seen deer in the yard. On rare occasions soaring eagles have been spotted over the lake.

The dining area is large and cheerful. It is furnished with comfortable seating for 6 at the table and 4 more at the snack bar. The kitchen is fully equipped with full-sized refrigerator & stove, microwave, waffle maker, fondue pot, coffee maker, toaster and all of the pots and pans you will need. The dishes have a delightful lighthouse theme. There is a complete set of 12. Of course there is a dishwasher too.

The view is amazing from both inside and outside this home. You can see the sunlight glisten off the water as you lounge at the beach area, relax on the deck or even view it from inside the living room. In the evenings you can curl up in front of the gas log fireplace in the living room, or sit outside around the firepit and be mesmerized by the flickering flames as you roast hotdogs and marshmallows and make hobo pies and S'mores. We provide plenty of firewood and 'Tonka Toasters'.

The yard is a great place to play outdoor games. It is almost an acre large, nicely landscaped and professionally manicured. There are horseshoe and washer-pitching pits built into the yard for friendly competitions. You might want to fish, shoot some basketballs, play ping pong, kayak or just relax in the hammocks. If you own a small boat you are welcome to bring it along. There is space at the dock to moor it and there is direct water access from the cottage to Lake Michigan via the Grand River.

The Waterfront Cottage has the convenience of a full-size washer and dryer.

All 1600 square feet of the home are on one level. (There are 4 steps outside to get into the home, and there is a flight of steps from the deck to the backyard.) We have stocked The Waterfront Cottage with a plethora of board games, puzzles, books and movies for your enjoyment.

Grand Haven is a wonderful place in which to vacation. CNN named Lake Michigan beaches the BEST IN THE NATION! Travel & Leisure Magazine called Grand Haven's beach one of the 'Best Secret Beaches on Earth'. And voters in a Pure Michigan competition chose 'watching a beautiful sunset in Grand Haven' as the number 1 activity in the state.

The Grand Haven area has wonderful hiking trails, lovely beaches, great golf courses and miles of bike paths. There are also unique parks to explore and enjoy. Beautiful Pottawattomie Park is nearby. It has a great playground for the kids, a swimming area and a fishing/observation deck that extends out over the water. Lake Michigan and its sugar sand beach is a quick and easy 5 miles from the cottage, as is quaint downtown Grand Haven. You can stroll on the boardwalk there, watch a sunset from the pier and enjoy the dancing waters of Grand Haven's famous Musical Fountain. If you feel really energetic, drive to Rosy Mound Park (about 3 miles south of town) and burn off excess calories with a rigorous hike to Lake Michigan. You will be rewarded with spectacular views!

Grand Haven has some exceptional restaurants. You will find little eating houses featuring homecooked breakfasts, the Pronto Pup kiosk (a Grand Haven tradition), Fricano's Pizzaria (another Grand Haven tradition), a variety of ice creams parlors, and both trendy and elegant fine dining establishments. There is everything from seafood to Italian to sushi to steaks to pizza to gyros to fast food to home made breads and candies. Grand Haven also hosts a Farmers' Market twice a week.

The Waterfront Cottage is an ideal place to come back to after a busy day in downtown Grand Haven. Or you can just relax here all week with occasional trips to near-by stores to purchase food and beverages. The Waterfront Cottage is a waterfront paradise. Some of our guests have made it a tradition for their families and return year after year. Come and make wonderful memories with YOUR family at The Waterfront Cottage.

This cottage is immaculately clean, tastefully decorated, comfortable, and fully furnished and equipped.

Please note the following: Our weeks run Friday to Friday. We do not allow any pets. The interior of the home is smoke-free, but smoking is permitted outside. Maximum occupancy is limited to 10 persons on the property. Please also note that an inquiry is not considered a request to hold or reserve the cottage. Thank you for your understanding of these policies.

Reserve a week, then come and enjoy a FABULOUS vacation at THE WATERFRONT COTTAGE! We look forward to hearing from you.

Why Mary Garbrecht chose Grand Haven

The Waterfront Cottage is much more than a cottage. It was our primary residence until we built a new home. Because we love this lake and the area, we built our new home on Pottawattomie Bayou Lake too. We live nearby which is helpful in case you have any questions during your vacation.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had such a wonderful time here at the Waterfront Cottage. The kids loved your beach. Great family memories were made and won't be forgotten.

Lovely Cottage

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful stay at the Waterfront Cottage. It was obvious that the owners take pride in this vacation home. The cottage was clean and had everything we could possible need (linens, towels, kitchen utensils, games, Wi-Fi, etc…). We loved the open floor plan between the kitchen, dining room and living room. The views were beautiful! The cottage is nicely decorated in a nautical theme. All of the furniture and beds were very comfortable and in good condition.

There is so much to do you could spend the entire week without leaving the property. We enjoyed kayaking the bayou, playing ping pong, foosball and other games, fishing, swimming, building sand castles and my favorite RELAXING in the hammocks. We also enjoyed nightly campfires and making s’mores.

Thank you so much for helping us to create a wonderful vacation memory for our family!

July 4th Waterfront Cottage Stay

  • 4 of 5
My husband, sister and 2 young children stayed at the Waterfront Cottage for a week in July. The outside of the property was amazing - huge yard, tons of things to do (ping pong table, basketball court, hammocks, sandy area, lake, fire pit, etc). The owners lived next door and stopped over as soon as we arrived to say Hi and see if we needed anything. The fire pit was stacked with wood and just waiting for a fire. There was a nice picnic table on the outside patio and we ate almost all our meals outside, using the grill.

The inside of the house was nice, but needs a little updating. The bedrooms were comfortable, although there is an opening from the closet of one bedroom into another bedroom, which seemed odd. The floors were so creaky, anyone walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night would literally wake up others in the house. This was especially problematic for us since we have small children and really wanted to keep them asleep!

The house is in a great area - it was easy for us to rent a boat and park it at the dock at the house. It is only a few minutes from Lake Michigan and the shopping/restaurant area of Grand Haven.

Overall, it's a nice property and we had a really great week!

Lots of family activities

  • 5 of 5
Home is as described. Beautiful waterfront. Both front and back yards are quite big with lots of room to play. House is equipped with a large assortment of sporting equipment, games, etc. to keep kids occupied. Kayaks were in good condition and lake was great for casual kayakers. Mosquitoes can be an issue in the yard so bring your repellant.

The two king bedrooms are very spacious and comfortable. The queen bedroom is tight and includes the laundry facilities. Remaining beds are foldouts in living room. The rental property is all on one floor with outside steps down to back yard and covered ping pong area.

House was well stocked with sheets/towels and kitchen was fully equipped. Owners are next door and are very friendly and helpful. They gave us a tour of the property and amenities on arrival.

Grand Haven is a very family friendly town with lots of summer activities and fairly easy parking. House is about 10 minutes from Grand Haven waterfront.

Loved the lawn and kayaks

  • 4 of 5
The Waterfront Cottage was as advertised. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. The group enjoyed the kayaks and took many pictures on the water. We used our boat for trips up and down the Grand River and conveniently tied up at their dock. The owners are very generous, very nice and even hosted the group on a pontoon ride out to Lake Michigan and back. Everyone enjoyed that immensely. Thank you!

We found a foosball table in the living room, washer and dryer in the smallest bedroom, a beautiful master bathroom with a huge jetted tub, and a second bathroom with a jetted tub; both baths had showers. The master bedroom has a huge walk-in closet, however, neither of the other two bedrooms have a closet. One had three hooks on the wall for your hangers and a large dresser. The third had a washer and dryer in it and a very small area way in the back of the room to hang clothes, but we couldn't get to it because of the suitcase and things on the floor as there was nowhere else for that resident to put those. The three beds were all very comfortable.

Our group consisted of two couples, three single adults and two kids under 10. We found the sleeping arrangements very awkward. The rollaway bed was poor and the person using it bought an air mattress the very first morning. The children and an adult slept on the love seats and couch because they were uncomfortable with the pull outs. The sleeping arrangements were our only complaint, but we have unique bed requirements. We thought we could make the pull outs would work for us.

The owners are next-door, and very happy to accommodate. The home is lovely and beautifully decorated in nautical themes. We enjoyed the deck immensely, and also liked the fire pit. We gave the hammocks several workouts, played with the ring toss and several other lawn games. The lawn from the house to the water is terrific. There is plenty of shade to keep you comfortable on hot days. The home felt pretty secluded and the area was very quiet during our week. We had no contact with neighbors other than our landlord.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review of The Waterfront Cottage!
We are glad that you enjoyed many of the amenities including the well-stocked kitchen, the kayaks, the dock, the foosball table, the washer and dryer, the 2 jetted tubs, the deck, fire pit, hammocks, lawn and lawn games and the privacy.
I would like to respond about the pull-outs. The two matching loveseats that pull out into twin beds are relatively new. They were purchased from a reputable furniture store just 5 years ago and are only used by our cottage guests during the summer months. The cot/roll-away is indeed older, but in very good condition. In our travels we also have never found either pull-outs or cots that were as comfortable as beds. When we need to use pull-outs or cots we find it works best for us to remove the mattress from the pull-out or cot and place it directly on the floor. Our guests are certainly welcome to do this if it is more comfortable for them.
I am glad that you gave us an idea for improving the queen bedroom. There is space for us to build a small 2nd area for hanging clothes where the open shelves are currently located. We will definitely check into doing this after our summer rental season ends.
We enjoy knowing that our guests were pleased with the cottage and that they had a wonderful vacation and we want to make The Waterfront Cottage the best that it can possibly be.
Again thank you for the review.
