We are a military family of four that has called DC home for more than 10 years. Although currently stationed in Illinois, we still consider ourselves Washingtonians and are excited to share the city and our property with you!
Meaghan Chada purchased this house in 2001
We originally rented this property but quickly decided to purchase it because of the perfect location and proximity to everything we love in the District. We were pleased that it was on a quiet residential street, but at the same time located only steps from our favorite sights, restaurants, and the convenient Metro system. This was the first house we purchased as a married couple and our kids loved spending their early years here.
This house perfectly combines a warm neighborhood feel with the excitement and energy of the city. The location is simply ideal and offers the best of everything.
This was such a wonderful experience for us from the moment we booked our place! The owner was so helpful with giving us great information about the property and about DC. The manager was extremely helpful as well. The property is in a great location within an easy walk to the National Mall. The place is well equipped, nicely updated and very spacious. Everyone and everything made for a great family vacation! We highly recommend to anyone!
We stayed for a week with 3 children (10,12,16) and would happily stay here again. Great location - walk to everything or metro if you like, but we found the walk easy. Great instructions on location of nearby restaurants, shops, markets, transport, etc etc. Well appointed with 2 large bedrooms downstairs (with main bathroom) and 1 large bedroom on entrance level (same level as lounge / dining / kitchen / toilet). Location is brilliant - very safe. Heating, wifi, washing machine, dryer - all worked well.
This home is ideal for a family trip to the National Mall. We are a family of 5 traveling with two colleges-aged kids and one 12 year old. We parked our car upon arrival and didn't use it the entire time we were in Washington. The owner is efficient, kind and timely. She shared so much usable information about travel in DC and the local surroundings. We shopped at a corner market so that we could have some meals in the home - which worked perfectly. We snuggled in for a few movies with tired feet at the end of some long walking days. The home is quiet, safe and excellently appointed. No draw backs. Not even one.
I am so impressed with this home that you share. The location could not have been better. We walked to everything. The home had the most comfortable beds (which was well needed after our 25 hours of travel to get there) and everything you would need for your stay. The owner is very good at communicating and was quick with replies with every detail you could want. The folder of information in the home was very useful. There was a mexican restaurant just 2 blocks away which had such big serves of food and very tasty. I would recommend this place to anyone going to Washington as you could not get any better or any closer. My family was impressed with how I find these gems!!!
House was absolutely perfect for a Washington adventure for our family of 5. Great location that gives you the feel of living in Washington DC. You can see the Capitol from the front sidewalk, easily stroll to the Metro train stop (traveler tip.....you can't share one card on the Metro which may be obvious....but we loaded up one Metro card thinking we could charge all of our rides on it but each person has to have their own card and/or ticket), and easily walk home from the sights of DC (which is what we did on most evenings after a full day of adventure.) We arranged for Peapod grocery delivery due to recommendations in prior VRBO reviews and that worked perfectly. There is a Mexican restaurant, Thai restaurant, and a liquor store right around the corner and a great block with bars and restaurants about four or five blocks away (we tried the sushi restaurant and the great fresh greens salad place). The house was very clean and nicely decorated and we were instantly at home. I have already recommended this VRBO to others and we would definitely stay there again if we were to make a return trip. Other tourist tips....arrange your Capitol Tour through your senator's office which is what we did and we received our own private tour which was fantastic.....if the weather is nice, rent bikes and you can see all the monuments in a short time (we rented from Bike and Roll at Union Station)...and when you return the bikes, head into the Postal Museum, it is very well done and was a fun stop for our kids. If you have kids...at all of the museums, ask for the children's guides/activity books...they are all great. Newseum was also a highlight and well worth the admission fee. Being able to come home to "our own home" each night after a busy day in DC was an extra added bonus to a fantastic tour of our nation's capitol!
We just left DC after having spent 3 nights there. We are a family of 5 travelling from Australia and this house and location were just perfect for our stay. It was spotlessly clean, had all the amenities we needed and a few minutes walk to all the monuments and museums we visited. The owners were always very accommodating and easy to deal with and even thought of the little things like providing umbrellas which were very handy on one of our days. They also allowed us an early check in which was very much appreciated as we were travelling by train and carrying 5 large suitcases. Highly recommended.
