This home was added as a rental property in July 2013. It has been renovated, and ready for travelers. The property owner and property manager are experienced, and have a second rental property several houses away on the same canal. (See VRBO property 428167 for more information.) This property is a L-shaped property, with a large master suite on one end, and two bedrooms on the other, with pocket doors dividing all bedrooms from the family and large Florida rooms. Those two rooms overlook the large screened in patio and in ground swimming pool. The master bedroom, Family room, and large Florida room have sliding doors and views to the patio, seawall, dock, and canal. The patio and pool are screened; the patio is covered by a roof. The private sun filled patio, leads to the private dock and large electric boat lift. The boat lift use is included in the rental. The dock has enough room for many to fish; licenses are not required from this private dock. The dock has lower levels from which to launch kayaks, canoes, or tubes. Kayaks might be provided if arrangements are made in advance. Special care has also been taken to provide room darkening shades and curtains, to allow peacefull rest in the bedrooms, while those who are not resting can enjoy the central get-together spots. The pool is surrounded by a safety gate. The family room and separate Florida room both look into the shaded patio and full sun, screened in pool. The pool overlooks the full sun outdoor patio, which overlooks the dock and canal, leading into Tampa Bay.
The two car garage provides plenty of storage for travelers. There is amble closet storage in all bedrooms, including two walk-in closets in the master suite.
The kitchen has modern appliances, and anything needed to prepare meals for groups up to 15, assuming you will invite friends and family to visit.
The rental property manager is located close by, and provides any support required, including arranging special cleaning services during your stay, if needed. The use of the washer and dryer is included, as well as the supplies.
The screened porch and open patio by the seawall allows the choice of enjoying the sun, or the cool shade.
There is a small beach and park within walking distance of the property, that has an exercise course, a dog walk, tennis courts, and a small beach and boat launch. Within 3 miles is the famous, award winning St. Pete Beach, with gourgeous sand, great water, and easy parking, 100 feet from the beach. Within 5 miles is Fort DeSoto park and beach, with great bike paths, excellent swimming and boating, and fantastic camping, with some spots right on the water. Other great beaches include Passagrill and Paradise Island.
I have owned a waterfront property on the same street for several years, and was happy when I was kayaking past this property, and found it was going on the market. It has been fun fixing it up and furnishing it with renters in mind. In addition, this is potentially my retirement home! It is very secure, quiet, and perfect for sharing good times with families and friends. The layout invites getting together in the shared areas, while providing peaceful separation for those who need the occasional Florida nap.
Ken Fisher purchased this house in 2013
The house is all block construction, with a great layout. It is on an island, with two bridges providing access. The property is very safe. If you google Coquina Key, you will see that the island is relatively small. Also, the property is protected from storm surge, because the water sweeps past the island. I bought it because it is great for fishing, kayaking, boating, swimming, and napping. By car, it is 3 miles to downtown St. Pete, 35 minutes to Tampa Airport, and two hours to Orlando.
Getting into Tampa Bay requires about 3 to 4 minutes by kayak. It is possible to kayak to downtown St. Pete by kayak from the property. Kayaks are available for use, some at no charge, if arrangements are made in advance. Bring a camera, because you will see beautiful Tampa Bay shots, manatees in season, dolphins, rays, plenty of fish, and many birds, such as egrets, diving ducks, great blue Herons, and Night Herons.
Ken was a super host, house had everything we could want/need, convenient location, lots of room for the 4 of us, easy access from garage for wheelchair, quiet neighborhood, we had a great time and hope to be back next year.
Spent a spring break here with some friends. Great location, very close to downtown St. Pete. Lots of space for having guests over. Not just an empty house, many amenities are provided. No complaints!
My family and I stayed here during my sisters wedding and it was a great value. The house is spacious and updated. The beds were comfortable and the master bedroom is amazing. We went kayaking out to Tampa Bay and it was fun, easy and enjoyable. You will see wildlife everywhere. We didn't get to use to pool because it was too cold (both outside and water temp) but it was December so we expected that. The house is definitely meant to have kids stay (we brought our three kids....all under the age of 5). Ken is readily available and he will point you in the right direction to find things not only in the house but also in the surrounding area. We have rented several places before and Ken was by far the most attentive owner we have come across.
If there was one thing we would have liked, the tile floors could have been cleaned a little better. They were clean but we noticed the socks on our kids were dirty quickly if they ran around without shoes on. That is seriously being very nit-picky about it. If you have ever had tile floors, this is a common issue.
We would stay there again, perhaps when it is warmer and we can use the pool and screened in back porch more.
There are several reviews that reference the immediate area around the house, so here is our experience. We felt very safe and secure at the house. This isn't a resort type area with million dollar beach houses lining the street. This is a family type community. In any big city, you will find nice parts and not so nice parts. I would avoid parts of Martin Luther King St but everything else we found to be acceptable. Remember, you are on an island. There are literally two ways to get on and off the island.
Our extended family of 8 stayed in the property for 1 month and we had a fanstastic time. The house is really well equipped for kids with everything from fenced pool, sand toys to high chairs. We also really enojyed the kayaks and saw dolphins, manatees and flying fish all the time. The kitchen is pretty well equiped, the bedrooms are very comfortable and the linen and towels are in exvellent state. The owner and caretaker were really helpful. Lots of nice attraction near by incluidong the Dali Museum, the Tropicana Stadium and the recently renovated Downtown. We only gave the property 4 out of five stars because even tough we felt prefectly happy and safe Coquina Island is close to south St. Petersburg which is not known to be the nicest neighborhood.
The house and pool were very clean. The house was a great place for our family event. The street the house was on was a nice street, but I would not recommend wandering too far from the street, the surrounding neighborhood appears seedy. We will rent this house again, we had a wonderful time.
This was our first family vacation, which included me and my hubby , my sons, wives and 6 grands, ages 9 mos to 11 years old. This house was great. the set up of the house allowed us to enjoy each other as a family, but not be on top of each other. Master Suite is to die for. I wanted to bring this part of the house home. The neighborhood was so quiet and everything near. Fort Desoto became our hang out.
My grandson brought his fishing poles. Nothing like waking up to a beautiful sunrise and sitting out back on the dock and casting your line. He had the whole family fishing. There were 2 additional poles in the garage, so we had 4 poles fishing at all times. We enjoyed the canal and the herons, lizards so much that my grands wanted to bring one home. We saved money by cooking, in the stocked kitchen and with 12 of us, there was enough eating space, two dining tables inside, one outside, for all of us to eat. We threw a party, barbecue and swimming. Lots of good family memories.
Having only one tv at first seemed like a problem, but it forced us to do more family things, playing cards, laughing, talking till all hours of the night. We didn't even miss watching TV.
Ken and Jina, what can I say. They were the best, so attentive! they tried to make you feel like it's your home away from home. they are right around the corner if you need them.
Will we be back? You bet, we are looking at dates for 2015. I will be recommending this to people I know.
The Dali Museum is a must see. Close to that is the Chilhuly Glass Museum and Works, an unbelieveable experience. The Sunken Gardens is an attraction that is well worth the quiet time to walk through. Downtown St. Pete has Saturday morning farmers markets. These are all within 3 miles of the property!
