Cute, roomy 2 bedroom/1 bath clean cottage located on 100' of Green Lake frontage. The living room/kitchen/dining room has windows overlooking the lake, with a comfortable couch. One of the bedroom has a queen size bed that enters a screen porch with a view of the lake. The second bedroom is used as a bunk room with two sets of bunk beds.
Outside is a short walk to the water and dock with a fire pit next to the water for bonfires. It is within an ear shot of the concerts at Interlochen Center of the Arts.
Green Lake is a beautiful lake with clear water and sand bottom. The lake is not heavily used which is another real benefit. The fishing is great. Located on the lake is the Interlochen Center of the Arts as well as a state park.
It's a very quiet relaxing area but close to Traverse City for those interested in shopping or dining out. There are also numerous restaurants in the area including Karlin Inn, the Hofbrau, and Bud's.
We loved the location. It was so great to sit by a campfire waterside and listen to concerts across the lake at Interlochen. Close to groceries, restaurants and 20 minutes to Traverse City. Overall, we had a great time. The one big negative on this property is the drinking water -- it's really really bad. This property needs a new well. We had to go buy our own water for cooking and drinking, and we felt that this major negative should have been honestly revealed to potential renters, particularly given the cost. At a minimum, they should have had some jugs of water there for us. Our son drank some (even though we told him not to) and was sick to his stomach for 2 days. While it's a nice basic cottage, it's obvious that it's being rented to generate some cash while they are trying to sell it. Someone will scrape this house and start over on the property, mark my words. There were no lamps -- only overhead lighting -- so we went and bought three table lamps (which we left behind), along with a saucepan, wine glasses, and about $100 worth of other basics that we just needed to enjoy our week. The owners were very nice, but we thought for the price they could have tried harder to set this place up as a nicer rental.
We really enjoyed our stay here, and would consider staying again in the future. Well kept and very homey feel.
My family (6 adults) had a great time at the Green Lake Cottage. We enjoyed boating, waterskiing, kayaking, sightseeing, watching beautiful sunrises from the dock and having bonfires at night. The water is too shallow to tie the boat up at the dock but we anchored it farther out and just waded out to it. The water is clear and there is a sandy bottom with some zebra mussels. The lake was not busy at all and we enjoyed waterskiing on the East side of the Peninsula directly South of the cottage. To watch the sunset we recommend going to the Interlochen State Park boat launch on Green Lake!
Go to the Hofbrau house on Tuesdays for half off the menu and Bud's on Thursdays for live music!
We also went wine tasting on Old Mission Peninsula and to Traverse City for "Friday night live". We had great food at the North Peak Brewery. The cottage is only a short 15-20min drive from Traverse City.
However, there are a couple grocery stores only a mile or so North of the cabin and we had some of the best meals on the back porch. The picnic table was really nice for our large family.
The owner was very helpful and we recommend to property to any families of 6 or less.
Side Note: Watch out for poison ivy around the front and side of the cottage.
This cottage is just doors away from Interlochen Arts Camp and on the shallow (and sandy) part of Green Lake. Cottage was impeccably clean and quite homey, with friendly owner and neighbors. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - perfect for a small family or a romantic getaway. We would definitely return - close also to Traverse City, Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, and the lovely penninsulas. Our dog also loved the lake and the cottage.
