Clayton Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Ideal getaway for relaxation and exploration! Secluded but close to all the fun!

Enjoy whitewater rafting, horseback riding and hiking! Go boating, swimming and golfing!

Relax in our gorgeous handcrafted home.

Our porches look out over National Forest. Listen to the waterfall or sit in front of the fire. Lake Burton and golf courses are right next door as are the falls and trails of the Tallulah River. Great beautifully decorated place for couples, families, and friends to get away from it all! Everything you need is here. Secluded and private but fifteen minutes away from the shops, restaurants and groceries of downtown Clayton.

Come share our beautiful craftsman timber frame home. The soaring great room features a granite stone fireplace, stainless steel kitchen, Wifi and Bluray, a love seat by the fire, and recliners with bookcases. There are three bedrooms, a master on main, and two guest rooms upstairs, in addition to a pullout sofa in the great room. We have pillowtop mattress covers, and high quality linens. The waterfall is audible from the master suite, and the private gas fireplace is cozy in the winter.

There are two and a half baths. Outside find a wrap-a-round deck, a cozy hammock, a fire pit, a gas grill, and lots of seating. Then explore the creek and waterfall. Once at the creek, relax on the observation deck. Comfortably sleeps nine. Ideal for two families with kids or three couples.

The great room features two story windows throughout with views of National Forest. The master suite features a queen sized bed, gas fireplace, spacious closet and large custom tiled jetted bath. Upstairs find a spacious bunk room that sleeps three with room for more on air mattresses, a guest room with a queen sized bed, and a full bath. The pullout sofa in the Great Room is perfect for teens. Outside grill out on the deck, or just nap in the hammock.

Specific amenities include central air and heat, ceiling fans throughout, stainless steel kitchen appliances, gas grill, outdoor seating, washer/dryer, good cellphone reception, wi-fi, a Bluray player, a large flat parking pad, and a second deck above the creek near the waterfall. Timbered steps lead down fern strewn slopes to the National Forest that adjoins the lot.

We have hosted wedding parties, book clubs, family getaways, book clubs, Little League teams, romantic getaways, even guests who have stayed a month or more!

Our guests horseback ride, whitewater raft, zipline, browse, work puzzles, cook amazing meals, boat and swim in Lake Burton, and explore the forests and waterfalls adjacent to the property. We provide a canoe, and lots of outdoor toys for little ones. They may even find crawdads in the creek! And don't forget the fly fishing next door. It is some of the best in the state.

We are popular for holiday rentals and relaxation. Our guests are escaping the heat of Florida and places closer by. We are an ideal meeting point for families split by the Georgia border. Within two hours you can reach our home from Tennessee, SC, NC, Alabama, and Atlanta.

About Melissa Smith

Mark and Melissa Smith reside in Tucker, Georgia and take advantage of staying in the mountains whenever possible.

Melissa Smith purchased this cabin in 2001

Why Melissa Smith chose Clayton

Private and secluded handcrafted custom timberframe home nestled in forest, yet with quick access to mountain adventures. Five acre lot, with no visible neighbors. Adjoins National Forest, yet easy to access via paved driveway off a private road. The Lake Burton area caters to the wealthy -- stay in our house with all the amentities for a fraction of the cost of lakefront properties. You can have your boat on the water in no time with the public ramp just five miles away on Plum Orchard Road. On our property enjoy trail heads to the Tallulah River and Wildlife Management Area.

We are not a cookie cutter development. Private waterfall and deck on creek. Fly fishing and lake fun five minutes away. Camp High Harbour is next door. Marina rentals, horseback, ziplining are all within easy reach. Dilliard House and stables, Highlands, NC and Helen, GA are all an hour or less away. Sautee River Pottery is close by as is the Tallulah River Gorge and it crystal blue pools. Great kitchen for special vacation meals and restaurants in Clayton for when you don't want to cook.

What makes this cabin unique

Jumping off point for many options to enjoy the northeast Georgia mountains. Small waterfall on property. Private high quality handcrafted home. Guests tell us the warmth and intimacy of the home is unique. It was built by a backpacking homebuilder with attention to craftmanship, whose wife is a biologist interested in enjoying and preserving wildlife. The timber and granite is all locally sourced. The decor is personal, not generic. It is a place to build memories, and then return and build more. It is intimate yet accessible. Guests tend to have adventures, then retreat to our wooded seclusion to reccharge before setting forth for another adventure.

Details: Two hours will get you here from four states, not including Georgia. Atlanta is a also two hours away. Five miles from front door to the Tallulah River boat access to Lake Burton. Right next door to best fly fishing in Georgia. Ten miles to Clayton Main Street folk art gallery, and a good private book store. Many nearby venues for hiking, dining and horseback riding.

Cozy Mountain Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing stay in this lovely mountain cabin. The property was secluded and relaxing. The furnishings in the house were comfortable and well maintained. The area around Clayton offered many activities and excursions to explore. We hiked 3 water falls, went white water rafting, went trout fishing, and spent a day exploring downtown Clayton- the milkshake at the Clayton Pharmacy was awesome. Mostly we just relaxed and enjoyed being together without the distractions of the outside world. My son said it was the best birthday ever- he is 13!

Great place to relax in nature.

  • 5 of 5

We greatly enjoyed our week in the woods. We felt so secluded from modern civilization. No TV, just our cell phone and the internet. The location was in the center of many opportunities to experience native Georgia. We enjoyed the cool breezes on this mountain top. The kitchen was well equipped for a family. We would be glad to return to this house.

RELAXING

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 7 enjoyed our 3 night stay. This cabin was beautiful, clean and had all the amenities needed to make the cabin our own. The food store is only about 15 minutes from the cabin. Roads are a bit narrow, but we never had a problem with other traffic.

My husband and I, along with two of our daughters went for a weekend get away. What a beautiful place! Far enough off the beaten path, but close enough to run into town for groceries and movies. We really enjoyed the escape from technology, and spent time working on puzzles, reading and watching movies. We love to cook and found everything we needed in the kitchen. Our dogs loved the big porch! We took a day trip into Franklin, NC and visited Rose Creek Mine for some gem mining. Great fun!
