Hello

My name is Ailsa and this is a photo of Joanne and myself (in black) at the front door of the cottage. I look after the bookings and your pre/post-arrival and Joanne looks after the housekeeping side of our beautiful cottage. Joanne 'loves' the cottage like her own. I live in Australia, but was born in Scotland. Both my brother and mother live in St Andrews and so it makes sense to own a property in the town where my family can keep an eye on it.

Ailsa Wilson purchased this cottage in 2012

We bought this property because we love the town of St Andrews - it holds a special place for us, as we were married there, and held our wedding reception at the Old Course Golf and Country Club. It is also very special to own, as it brings us closer to family living there.

I love our cottage because it is just so cosy and so completely central to everything you could want from the town of St Andrews. It's age gives it history, and stories yet to unfold!

Perfect St Andrews cottage

I cannot speak highly enough of this rental property, and we have stayed in many around the world. We stayed here for a week over Xmas with our family of 4 (including two large teenage children). As the weather wasnt great, and it was Xmas, we wanted to be indoors quite a bit, and this cottage was perfect in every way. Its very charming, clean, and extremely well equipped. We managed to cook some very sophisticated meals over Xmas and enjoyed them in the middle of winter in the toasty conservatory. When we had a minor problem with some lights, the owner's brother came promptly to our rescue, and the owner was always on hand on the email to answer any queries. The position could not be better - its quiet, but extremely central with everything you could want within a few minutes walk (in fact I wouldnt bother going to the larger supermarket a bit further out as the main street has Sainsbury's and Tescos) and then there are fabulous specialty shops (especially the lovely cheese shop and great fish monger and excellent butcher). We loved Mitchell's too (coffee shop come restaurant come gourmet deli). This is also extremely close to all the main attractions of St Andrews - we walked to everything even though we had a car. There are no pictures of the bathroom but they are great. Also there is no parking outside but there is free parking very close by and plentiful. Loved everything about this place and would happily recommend to anyone - a real gem.
Owner's Response: Thank you for reviewing our property at 84 North Street. I am very pleased you found the cottage so well equipped. Sometimes, it is difficult to know if you are providing the correct resources for holiday guests. I am impressed with the sound of your culinary skills and pleased your Christmas was filled with fun in the kitchen and warm too! I should have told you about the Farm Shop also just on the way out of St Andrews on the road to Leuchars (next time!). They do great meringues! You do need a car to get there. Haste ye back! Ailsa

First class location and facilities

We stayed in 84 North Street for my brothers wedding in the Old Course Hotel. It would have been hard to find a better location for our stay, ideally located for walking around St Andrews and for exploring further afield. The house itself was a beautiful property decorated to the highest standards with all modern facilities, it was a perfect size for our party of 6. We were sad to leave it behind to head home. I would recommend trying the Indian just up the lane at the side if you are staying here, the crab curry was delightful :)
Owner's Response: Thank you for posting your review of our property Dave. We are pleased to be assured that the cottage fitted your party of 6 comfortably and that you found the property so central and convenient for exploring areas of Fife and beyond. I will try that crab curry myself next time I am in St Andrews! Thanks again. Ailsa

I can’t rate this cottage highly enough. It was immaculate. Everything needed for a self catering holiday was provided. The whole house was clean and well maintained. The garden was an extra bonus as we had very good weather during our stay and it was nice to be able to sit outside in the evening.
The bedrooms were simply decorated but stylish. The beds were comfortable and having the top floor (double bedroom and separate shower room with toilet) all to ourselves was another added bonus.
Ailsa was super to deal with. Always prompt to answer my emails and concerned that everything would be alright for our stay.
‘84’ was near everything – 2 seconds to the centre of town.
We would recommend ‘Taste’ (opposite the cinema) for breakfast and Ogstones for an evening meal out, not forgetting the Westport’s beer garden for a spot of lunch in the sun.
I would definitely recommend this property to a friend. It was just great and we had a lovely week’s holiday
Owner's Response: Thank you. It is so good that our guests want to take the time to talk about their experience staying at our cottage. You had the added bonus of a beautiful Scottish summer so that you could enjoy the lovely garden and conservatory.

There are some really good eating places in St Andrews, so I am glad you found them and I look forward to trying a couple of your suggestions which I am not familiar with! See you again we hope. Ailsa

My family traveled to St. Andrew's from America for my brother's wedding, and we found the flat an absolute gem! It was clean, well-maintained and had all the amenities we needed. Right in the heart of the charming town, we walked everywhere and were never more than a fifteen minute walk from all the attractions. The flat itself is quaint but surprisingly spacious and very comfortable. The sun porch made for cozy breakfasts and the backyard patio was wonderful. It slept six adults and two infants very comfortably.

I couldn't recommend the flat more - all around wonderful experience from start to finish. I look forward to going back!
Owner's Response: Great to know that you found the cottage so comfortable, cosy and conveniently located. We look forward to welcoming you back for more of the same! Ailsa

Just Perfect !!!!!!!!!!!!

We were looking for a place to stay for a minimum of 3 nights for my best friend's wedding weekend but we had very clear expectations (we all work in the high end of 5 star hospitality) - we wanted 3 bedrooms (and many bathrooms as possible), plenty of space for entertaining (and getting the bride dressed), walking distance from all amenities and a homely feel. This cottage just had it all (AND MORE!!) the bride was even on time at the church on her wedding day (she is notoriously late..).

From arrival at the cottage filled with fresh flowers (BIG BONUS POINTS!!), this airy, beautiful decorated cottage was our home! And we did not wanted to leave.

Beautiful soft furnishings, tastefully decor throughout the cottage. Great conservatory with great for morning breakfasts, good day light for the make up artisits to apply make up and super outside space too.

Although right in the middle of the town - very quiet (no disturbance with outside or neighbour noises).

HIGHLY Recommended to all !!!

Ailsa and Joanne extremely flexible and helpful with the arrangements of the cottage. Very professional service. Exceeded our expecations !! Loved the extra little touches.

Thank you again !!
Owner's Response: We love having bridal parties stay with us at the cottage - it is always such a happy occasion.

We are so pleased that all went to plan and the cottage fitted your needs so beautifully. It is amazingly quiet isn't it, given the central location. What I love on a Sunday morning is the beautiful church bells of St Salvator's ringing out.

We look forward to keeping in touch and welcoming you back soon.

Ailsa and Joanne

The charming medieval town of St. Andrews has much to offer its visitors. It is the home of golf as well as the oldest University in Scotland. It has a fascinating history, beautiful beaches and walks and excellent restaurants. It really is an idyllic location for enthusiastic golfers or a base to explore the east coast of Scotland.

St Andrews is a town meant for exploring. The medieval layout of the town centre remains intact, with the main shopping areas concentrated in Market Street and South Street, with Bell Street and Church Street connecting the two principal streets. Take time to explore - on foot - and take pleasure at the surprises and delights you will find.

St Andrews holds a special place in Scotland's history. It takes its name from the Apostle whose relics, legend tells us, were brought to this place in antiquity by St Rule. Scotland later adopted St Andrew as her patron saint and took his salt ire cross for her flag.
