Mountains weather - cold summer nights it was 53 degrees last night (August). Spring brings new growth, wild and farm animals and wild flowers. Autumn shows off the wild colorful leaves changing the views in every direction. Winter brings the snow making skiing, tubing, sledding and snowman making possible.
The cabins built by the owner feature many unique charms such as wormy chestnut logs and wood, arrowheads found on the grounds, nooks for children to explore, private outdoor fire pits and plenty of gathering space indoors and out. A great deal of time has been spent collecting local reclaimed wood to build Memory Mountains' cabins and it shows.
We came up to Memory Mountain and stayed in Lakeside to view and venue and work on wedding planning for our September 12, 2015 wedding. We had 9 adults staying in Lakeside and had plenty of room for everyone to sleep and for our family meals around the dining table. Steve, the owner, came up on Saturday morning and shared his story and the history of Memory Mountain with our families. We feel so blessed that we get the privilege to say "I Do" at this beautiful and special place. Memory Mountain will be our wedding location but it will also be the site of many family vacations in the future. The craftsmanship of the cabins, the surrounding areas and the gracious host all combine to make this property the best place I have ever rented on VRBO. The proximity to ski slopes, Asheville, AT, ziplines, and river activities make this an excellent location for someone looking for adventure or someone looking for a lazy weekend of porch sitting.
We have rented all 5 cabins and will be hosting 100 people at Memory Mountain in September and I will write another review of the cabins at that point but I fully expect it to be another rave review.
We can't say enough about our Wedding Weekend! We got married November 1st, and had planned for months for a beautiful Fall wedding with the gorgeous fall colors behind us… After watching the weather forecast for days up until we arrived in Wolf Laurel, we quickly realized that wasn't going to be the scene! Lakeside was going to be our Reception Cabin. However, with freezing temperatures and 100% chance of snow, we had to rearrange our entire wedding day plan! Lakeside became the home for our Rehearsal Dinner. It worked out perfectly for the amount of people we had. We were unable to use the beautiful covered porches with lovely wooden tables, but the inside of the cabin worked out perfectly. Lakeside is full of plush furniture, and gorgeous wood work throughout the cabin. The pictures on the website cannot begin to do this cabin justice. This is a wonderful place to bring your family and celebrate any occasion, or just come together to make memories that will last forever. The owners, Steve and Joy are wonderful people with good loving souls. We strongly recommend this vacation site to you for multiple reasons! The beauty alone is worth the drive!
I feel quite sad writing this review, because I'm home and not there right now. Seriously, I was moved by the beauty of this place. One of my best friends rented all 5 cabins and held her wedding here. She had the ceremony and reception in this exact cabin. It was absolutely perfect. This cabin has a gazebo right by the lake, with two stories of enormous decks that overlook the spot that's perfect for a wedding ceremony. The owner is so welcoming and so flexible. He allowed us to take over and make it the most beautiful wedding I've ever seen. I couldn't believe how many decorations he had for our use. It was a decorator's dream come true. It honestly felt like we were having a wedding at home for a dear friend. The only down falls were the terrain and parking access. The cool thing about it, though, is that you can rent out all 5 cabins and keep your closest family members/wedding party from traveling far and from braving the difficult mountain terrain. This place is a little piece of heaven. It's so close to Asheville, but the scenery is unreal comparatively. The drive up on the interstate is an experience in itself. I can honestly say this was the most amazing wedding I've ever been to, including my own, which I loved immensely. This was by far one of the greatest experiences of my life. I will never forget it.
My husband and I were married on Memory Mountain and it was exactly as I imagined. Our family and friends were all able to stay in the adjacent cabins. It made for a fun, relaxed, and amazingly beautiful wedding weekend. Steve went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect, down to each small detail. The lake, flowers, and rustic charm of the cabins made for beautiful photos.
We are so thankful for the quality time we were able to spend with family and friends and are hoping to return with everyone in years to come.
The property was just as described, fully appointed with everything you could possibly need to make your stay most comfortable. Owners Steve & Joy could not have been more gracious and accommodating. Our family enjoyed every moment, fishing, hiking and playing with Lobo. Steve shared his love of antiques and history with us in his antique museum, at the farm and at the memorable Sunday service in the chapel. We would certainly recommend Memory Mountain to anyone wishing to get away and relax. Great for families, young and old. Go to Memory Mountain and make your own Memories!
I stayed in this cabin for my sister's wedding. Steve and Joy were WONDERFUL! We had a better experience than we ever expected. We had 10 staying in this particular cabin and didn't feel overcrowded. I especially enjoyed time on the porch, it is very large and perfect for fellowship with large groups, rain or shine. My 7 year old daughter had the time of her life running around outside and fishing. The cabin was fully furnished with everything we needed for a fun filled weekend in God's country! The property is just beautiful! I highly recommend this cabin for large groups looking for a mountain get away.
