Steve and Joy Powell believe children are the future and nothing is more important then giving children a solid foundation for life. They strongly feel great memories should be shared. Memory Mountain is full of personal memories experienced by their family over the past 2 decades and continue presently. It is their vision to give others a mystical place to make memories with those they care about. Memory Mountain has the potential to grow great character in your children and grandchildren.

Both Joy and Steve are from large families. Steve is 1 of 7 brothers, his Dad kept trying for a daughter until his mom put a stop to it. Joy has 5 brothers and sisters and is a native to North Carolina (4th generation).

Steve and Joy Powell - owner/manager/builder/cleaning crew purchased this lodge in 2006

It's easy to get here. There are not miles of windy 2 lane country roads . I-26 intersects with I-95 so if gas tanks allowed - you could get here traffic light free. There are 2 airports Asheville, NC 35 miles or Tri-Cities, TN 50 miles. Both cities have great rates flying Allegiant Air.

Memory Mountain features over 200 acres to enjoy. You will not have to leave the mountain to fish, hike, bird watch, visit a chapel.

Extras: wi-fi, Directv (over 570 channels - local, movies, sports, Disney), free long distance land lines (cell phones are iffy here therefore land lines are included to ensure safety. Please enjoy unlimited calls out or in. Steve and Joy Powell (owners) live on Memory Mountain to assist all guest with any issue that may occur.

Level building pads here. This lodge is built on stem wall footers. There are no steep drops or stilts like most mountain cabins. The lodges are well planned to allow privacy and safety. There is plenty of driveway parking as well as garage. Traffic is light because of the low home/acreage ratio.

Holidays! You can have it all away from home. Gifts can be mailed to the Powell address or store pick up is available at 2 very close Walmart's (Weaverville, NC or Erwin, TN). There are Christmas tree farms in Mars Hill to cut your own tree. Dishes to prepare and enjoy holiday meals are included as well as a large full size kitchen.

Weddings. We have a chapel and beautiful mountain back drops 24/7.

Please ask any question... we will find an answer.

Mountains weather - cold summer nights it was 53 degrees last night (August). Spring brings new growth, wild and farm animals and wild flowers. Autumn shows off the wild colorful leaves changing the views in every direction. Winter brings the snow making skiing, tubing, sledding and snowman making possible.

The cabins built by the owner feature many unique charms such as wormy chestnut logs and wood, arrowheads found on the grounds, nooks for children to explore, private outdoor fire pits and plenty of gathering space indoors and out. A great deal of time has been spent collecting local reclaimed wood to build Memory Mountains' cabins and it shows.

PERFECT GETAWAY LOCATION!

  • 5 of 5
I stayed in this cabin for my sister's wedding. Steve and Joy were WONDERFUL! We had a better experience than we ever expected. We had 10 staying in this particular cabin and didn't feel overcrowded. I especially enjoyed time on the porch, it is very large and perfect for fellowship with large groups, rain or shine. My 7 year old daughter had the time of her life running around outside and fishing. The cabin was fully furnished with everything we needed for a fun filled weekend in God's country! The property is just beautiful! I highly recommend this cabin for large groups looking for a mountain get away.

Owner's Response: First thanks for the write up. Memory Mountain was started one year ago. We started out just renting cabins God quickly changed that and now we are a place to come unwind. We have and are still building a environment that is a family compound, a sanctuary for peace, a wholesome vacation spot, fishing, hiking, tour of the farm, arrowhead hunts, and much more. It's a Christian environment but when you rent a place here you own it. No one bothers you it's your home away from home.

MAY 10, 2014 WEDDING

  • 5 of 5
Our daughter was married on the lake dock beside the Memory Mountain Lakeside Cabin on May 10, 2014. The area between the lake and small waterfall made a wonderful natural aisle for the bride and attendants to walk from the cabin to the dock where the ceremony was held. The venue is beautiful and we had the reception on the covered porches of the Lakeside Cabin. We used the gazebo between the cabin and lake as a dance floor for the first dance, father-daughter dance, and the mother-son dance. We rented the Lakeside cabin for the entire week prior to the wedding and rented the other cabins for 3 days each for the families and wedding party. It was a wonderful family oriented wedding. We had about 100 guests. Steve and Joy provided gliders, benches and chairs for the guests and they were very kind and helpful. We ordered flowers and had them delivered to Steve and Joy’s home and they promptly brought them to us. Very thankful for such a beautiful wedding and everyone had a wonderful time.

Owner's Response: We have had 18 wedding and have booked 36 more. People are coming from all over the country. A destination wedding is the way to go. We will continue. We have 3 parts to our mission statement. First is the bride, second the families come together to start these young peoples lives out right, third what a vacation place. We now have firm plans to be able to handle 400 plus wedding next year.

AN UNFORGETTABLE WEEKEND

  • 5 of 5
What an unforgettable weekend. My husband and I invited 60 friends from across the country to stay with us at Wolf Laurel in 4 cabins owned by Steve and Joy for our wedding celebration. Everyone was so happy – with the cabins, the bonfire, the beautiful dinner with a surprise guest appearance by a double rainbow, and the friendly Alaskan Red Wolf, Lobo. It was more than we could've asked for. Steve was so accommodating on the night of the party with the decor and moving the tables and benches, he even built more for us. They went above and beyond and I couldn't recommend a place more. Thank you Steve and Joy.

RECENTLY MARRIED AT MEMORY MOUNTAIN

  • 5 of 5
There is so much good I could say about Steve, Joy, and Memory Mountain that I could type forever. My husband, Quillie, and I were married there May 3rd of this year. We had our rehearsal dinner, wedding ceremony, and reception at Lakeside at cabin. Our wedding ceremony was held at the gazebo on the lake. The setting, the people, Lobo :), everything was absolutely PERFECT. Steve and Joy are so helpful and truly helped the weekend run smoothly. Feel free to email me. Memory Mountain is truly magical and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a venue. Steve and Joy are like family now and our family will continue to visit Memory Mountain yearly. Thanks Steve and Joy!!!! Sending tons of southern love and hugs your way :)

Owner's Response: We are glad to have a family like yours. Your mother was second to none what a class act. I want you to know that we will continue to improve our place. We will build a new barn wedding sight next year. This will be second to none. We have on the drawing board a castle to host wedding. This will be built out of rock on property. More later

A WONDERFUL INTRODUCTION...

  • 5 of 5
My mother and I came for a site visit as a prospective location for my wedding. We had seen so many positive things online, we needed to make sure it was not too good to be true. It was the reality for which we were hoping. It is a picturesque locale for a wedding, an ideal corral for a family reunion, and a nice, secluded place for a family vacation (especially if you want a break for the city life). I could not have asked for a better view every morning at breakfast - ducks swimming in the lake and beavers chomping wood. These are high-end cabins fully stocked with all the amenities. Just fill your fridge with food and you will never have a need nor desire to leave. I'm am sure Memory Mountain is beautiful in the spring and summer, but I can't conceive of a better setup for experiencing the outdoors in the winter. Spending your days hiking, tubing and skiing and then retreat to a toasty cabin that has everything you would want from a five-star hotel. Finally, and this is important, Memory Mountain is a great place to bring your children. The kids can play outside without worrying about them running in a parking lot or getting lost in the crowd. Here is a place that just might entice your children to put down their Nintendo 3DS and go play outside.
