Loved Our Stay!!

Great stay. Spacious and nicely decorated with good quality bedding and towels. We had a group of 12 and found it was spacious for all of us. The house was really nice and the location was also very convenient since we were close to several restaurants and to downtown. John (the owner) helped us with everything we needed from grocery shopping to directions. We also loved the river view across the street and hope to try the jogging, biking, and canoeing we saw for next time. The air conditioning was also helpful for the days we ended up staying were over 30 C. We found this house very comfortable, well cleaned, and spacious, and will choose to stay here again!

Unique experience at this beautiful house!

We stayed at this house for a short visit to Calgary. We find the house was very beautiful and elegant, exactly like the pictures. We all were amazed at the beautiful and spacious kitchen, luxury bathrooms, multiple jets in showers, many bedrooms with private fireplaces and bathrooms. The beds were very comfortable, many are king sizes. All beds are nicely done and fresh. This is much more comfortable and cleaner than staying in a hotel. We will definitely be back to this beautiful home!

Amazing House.

We rented this house for a central gathering location for a bachelor party and it was great. The house is beautiful. Everyone that came to the house was blown away by it. The wood work around the house is spectacular. Bedrooms are good sized and comfortable. The photos of the house are nice but it is a place you have to see in person to really appreciate it. We only had 7 people staying at the house and there was lots of room. We had gatherings of 20 people and it did not feel crowded. Perfect for what we needed.

When we first arrived at the house, we were warmly greeted by one of the owners. She showed us around the house and was very nice to deal with. The owners were very helpful and assisted us whenever we needed. All basic amenities were provided as well as some extras. The house was clean and well maintained.

The location of the house was great for us since it was a centrally located near downtown where we had some activities planned. It is also near the popular area of Kensington with bars and restaurants.

Overall, I would recommend staying at this amazing house.

I had 4 employees stay for two weeks. They all enjoyed their stay and in particular the massive ensuite in the master bedroom. The place was clean and the owner made sure that the guest felt at home.

Disappointed with owners but amazing house

3 Night Stay in Aug/14 - whole house. It was impressive. Negotiated X dollars total (incl. cleaning fee). Booked 6 mo in advance. Gave large bank draft as security deposit.

Pros: Impressive house, Grohe fixtures throughout, good location. Beds nicely made, apparently everything steam cleaned. Fruit provided in the fridge as well as some cereal. This should be enough for most at this price point.

Cons: Big ownership issues - I believe they are in financial struggle. Upon reservation, owners asked for age and occupation of all guests.
1) Owners live downstairs with 2-3 dtrs - never mentioned to me. VRBO ad is misleading by not stating this. I expected to have the whole house. During initial walk through - owner asked if I wanted to buy the house.
2) They built a "sunroom" on their deck 1 month before we arrived, wanted to charge extra 10% total. I informed owners that upgrades/upkeep comes out of profit - NOT existing reservations. Owner claimed it added 400 square feet. In the end - it was not a walled sunroom but just a roof over the existing deck. This was very irritating.
3) Owner wanted to charge me another 7% of total fee to hold a family wedding party. She eventually waived this fee.
4) Reminded 8 times to turn off all lights as utilities are expensive.
5) Air conditioning did not work. Owner had no comment
6) Personal belongings throughout the main floor including weak narcotic grade medication (Tramacet), expired yogurt in the fridge
7) Reminded 4 times not to wear shoes in house
8) During our party, owner said children/adults are not allowed to step on the backyard grass.
9) No iron in any of 5 rooms - we had a wedding. Asked owners - never provided iron. Very weird if they also rent single rooms out.
10) At end of stay, asked for extra 2% cleaning fee for bedsheets. I informed this was not agreed upon, but owner was holding my large bank draft. I paid the 2%, got my bank draft back and instead am writing this review.
11) 8 more cons, but out of text space.

Opinion: Great house(5/5), poor ownership(1/5), poor landlords(2/5). Would not return, would not recommend for the price paid (esp. with the 3 requests for more money). I understand their issues with running a business, but nickel and diming customers won't attract repeat guests. I've waited 2 months to see if I could forgive - and still very disappointed. Cons #1 and #2 are the worst and I've made an official VRBO complaint.

Owner's Response: 1) Our agreement clearly stated that only top and main floor are for rent “basement is occupied and not for use.” (Item# 26).
2) In June 2014, a new 440 sqft room was added to protect the house from flood and heavy snow damage. It connects to the dining room. It was built with 3 walls & wall lights, 3 skylights, music speaker, stamped concrete, Kaiju wood railing & outdoor furniture. It protected the outdoor sitting area from the storm last Sept. This guest approved the extra charges after we sent him 12 pictures after the renovation. He well used it for his 45 people party but want to have it for free.
3) We forgave this customer on many charges. We agreed on 8 occupants w no partying/gathering. He actually had 12 occupants and a party with 45 people. We gave him deposit back at departure instead of 2 day waiting as agreed.
4) We only reminded him once as all lights were on when he was gone. There are about 200 pot- lights and most were on when not needed.
5 & 6 & 7) One of the air conditioner needed attention. This problem is now fixed. Backache medicine was removed.
8) During his party, some of his guests went to our separate stair leading to the basement, gathered at our entrance and staring at us. We gently reminded his guests that the basement was off limits. He had many children as guests, jumping off and breaking two of the outdoor chairs. We did not charge him for this.
9) There was a steamer iron in master suite, he did not want to use. A regular iron was provided at 9:30 am the next day, but he said he no longer needed it. Later, we find the iron in bedroom number 4. We then added 1 more iron for future guests.
10) This guest asked for damaged deposit at departure, we checked quickly and advised him of a 1 hour cleaning fee due to his party as well as yard cleaning. We also provided extra bed sheets and towels for his extra guests. We refunded his deposit in full after he paid us one hour of cleaning fee.
11) We found this customer unreasonable and disrespectful to our property. He called us late at night for a regular iron when there was a steamer iron. He asked and we helped for extra toiletries supplies when holding his 45 people party. Some of our beautiful cups, bowls and dishes went missing (this has never happened to us before). We provided plenty of assistance plus complimentary beverages, toiletries, breakfast item and he did not even thank us but only cared about getting his money back which we normally refund in full.

Misleading

The listing i looked at was a beautiful clean house in a prime location. When i arrived i found out the the owner lived in the basement still and there was personal belongings around the house in cupboards and bathrooms. The fridge and freezer had food in it which made it hard to store the groceries i had brought for my stay. Another misleading aspect was that the Piano room displayed in the picture was locked up and not accessible. The house claims to sleep 15 but would really only sleep 11 comfortably and that would include a person on the couch. At the end of the weekend i had to pay an extra cleaning fee which i had previously discussed was apart of the charge. The house was not filthy but did have crumbs on the floor and obviously bedding needing to be washed - which i would assume would need to be done after every visitor. All together the house was a very nice place but i would not rent it again.

Owner's Response: It is painful to see this untruthful review. This is a 2 million dollar property and we are proud to keep it in pristine condition. We have beautiful art work, quality beddings (steamed, washed, and ironed for every check in), and extreme cleanliness entailing all floors are vacuumed and mopped and all kitchen and bathroom items disinfected. The personal items that mentioned are pictures, books and cleaning products. The 5 fridges (4 in the rooms and one in kitchen) are only used by guests and we provide welcoming fruits and breakfast items in the main fridge. There are 2 kings, 3 queens and 1 queen sofa bed for at least 12 people to comfortably sleep. At check in, she was amazed by the condition of the house but her group of 12 did not do a single clean up after hosting her party.
Every room was in a condition that needed deep cleaning: leftover food on desks, and counters, garbage left on floors with dirty cups and drinking bottles, all 5 bathrooms and the kitchen needed a thru-rough cleaning. After cleaning, there were 8 full of garbage bags and more than 100 cans of beer with several bottles of wines collected from sporadic points in the house. Originally, she told us she would use the house for sleeping only, no partying or cooking to negotiate a much lower rent with only 2 hours of cleaning. It took more than 12 hours of deep cleaning for 2 professional cleaners. But to keep guest happy, we only charged her 4 hours and refunded her deposit in full. She threatened us with a bad review. This review is a result, as the cleaning fee was charged. Not only are we fair, our charge to her is compromising. We would not clean for reviews.
This false review creates the wrong image about our property. Our pictures are real. Our rental agreements are clear and precise. We do not offer the piano room without pre-approval (for pianists and weddings). We appreciate guests who take care and use the house like their own. Many guests loved the house and have come back several times. We are very saddened by the inappropriate usage and untruthful review!
