We have lived in San Francisco since 1983 and love its diversity and excitement. I am a local attorney and own my firm. My wife Malu and I love raising our 2 children here in this wonderful city. We live across the street from this vacation property. We are offering it at VRBO for the first time.

Malu Soderquist purchased this apartment in 1997

This is a great neighborhood, mostly consisting of famiies in one and two unit buildings. It is extremely quiet at night, remarkable for being in the center of a vibrant city, where the bars and restaurants are only a 5 minute walk away.

This is a pretty home, with some lovely built ins and details. Constructed in 1908, just a few years after the 1906 earthquake, it sits on what was once sand dunes stretching down to Ocean Beach, 3 miles away. A few hundred feet away is a marker showing the spot in 1776 where the first Spaniards camped when they first came to San Francisco to establish Mission Dolores. In this relatively small city of 700,000 there is a world class ballet, symphony and theater. Exhilarating hiking and biking trails surround the Bay, and there is access to every sport and leisure activity. The highly rated restaurants vie with the lesser known but exciting eateries. We love our city and hope you will too!

Charming Home Away From Home Steps from Presidio and Walking Distance to Golden Gate Park & Bridge

Charming Home Away From Home Steps from Presidio and Walking Distance to Golden Gate Park & Bridge
  • 5 of 5
This amazing home is truly a "treat" to stay in. The owners, Malu & Phil, created a beautifully furnished and extremely comfortable place for travelers to call home while visiting San Francisco and the Bay Area. Our family found the home well furnished and spacious for three adults, the beds comfortable, the bathrooms very modern, and the wonderful kitchen full of everything we needed to host a big family dinner. The backyard is filled with flowering bushes and tall trees and has a tiled patio with outdoor furniture. The home in ideally located a block from the Presidio where our family hiked and biked our way to the Golden Gate Bridge or just enjoyed strolls along the trails to take in the beauty of the park. It is also conveniently located to easily drive out of the city, over the Golden Gate Bridge, and into Sausalito and onward to visit Napa Valley and Sonoma wine country. We also walked about a mile (20 minutes) to visit the Golden Gate Park, the de Young Art Museum (be sure to go up to the top floor of the tower to see the panoramic views), the Japanese Tea Garden, the Conservatory of Flowers, and where the California Academy of Science is located. Best of all though, was the opportunity this home gave us to meet our baby granddaughter for the first time--because of Malu and Phil, we were able to stay in this charming home that is only a few blocks from our son & daughter-in-law and our newest addition to our family. What a memorable stay we had in this VRBO home. We hope to return again!

BEST VACATION HOME!!

  • 5 of 5
We felt so comfortable and at home, Malu's hospitality and kindness made our stay extra special. The beds are very comfortable, the house location is ideal and after our long day of sight seeing we truly enjoyed having their comfortable home to return to.

Thank you Maul and Phil, we will be back again some day.

A fantastic apartment, with fabulous owners!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed in this apartment for a week, with our 3 small children. Everything about it was amazing. The property itself was spotlessly clean, with beautiful furnishings, books, linens and kitchen equipment. A travel crib was provided for our infant daughter, and was made cozy and comfortable for her. Malu left us wine and amazing cookies, which were both most welcome after a 10 hour flight from the UK. The owner also assisted us personally in helping meet the challenges resulting from my disability, showing kindness and generosity that was amazing.
Overall, the property exceeded our expectations in every way. We were very sad to leave, but really hope to visit "our" SF home again very soon. We would be happy to recommend this property to everyone we know - but are also tempted toy keep it just for us!
It was an honour and a privilege to stay in this apartment, thank you.

Let me first say that Malu & Phil could not have been more cordial hosts. They were on top of every question, recommendation, etc. Their home was immaculate and beautifully decorated. All the amenities described in the rental description were accurate. The area, though somewhat removed from the City, was quiet and close to the golden gate park, bridge and adjacent scenic beaches.
We travelled with our adult children who also enjoyed the place.
There are numerous market, deli's and restaurants within walking distance.
I highly recommend this San Francisco Treat

Truly a San Francisco treat!

  • 5 of 5
The minute we walked in, we fell in love with the place! It was a perfect mix of modern conveniences and old world charm. Plus, it was absolutely spotless. Our family of four (two adults, one pre-teen and one teen) felt spoiled being in such a beautiful home. The apartment is on the main floor (there is a basement suite and second floor apartment - each with a separate entrance) and is well laid out with two spacious bedrooms, a formal dining room, a living room and an immaculate kitchen (loved the Viking gas stove and the high efficiency washer and dryer). There is only one shower, but what a shower it is! Our whole family could have fit in there (but we didn't do that). All the finishings are of high quality and as many before me have stated , the Owners have a flair for decorating and placing art. As for the location, it was on a nice quiet street with close proximity to grocery shopping (Safeway about a mile away) and several SF attractions (Golden Gate Park and Presidio are well within walking distance). Being so close to California Street, it was very easy to get anywhere in SF whether you were driving, taking the bus, riding a bike, etc. Also, the apartment is close to the Golden Gate bridge, so travel to Sausilito, Napa, Sonoma, etc. is very easy and highly recommended (if you have access to a vehicle). We did have a rental car (drove up from Southern California) so parking near the apartment was sometimes a challenge as no assigned stall comes with the rental). But, the Owners provided an excellent parking tip sheet for reference. Just something to keep in mind should you have a rental car. As for the Owners themselves, I did share a few emails back and forth with them and they were nothing but accommodating and informative. They actually helped us plan our scenic drive up from Southern California. Other than that, we did not have to contact them. They did surprise us with a welcome card, wine and cookies though. In short, if you want to enjoy everything that SF (and surrounding area) has to offer, I highly recommend this apartment. Staying in this gorgeous home was one of the highlights of our 2 week California adventure.

Great Vacation in San Fransisco!

  • 5 of 5
We had a great time exploring the San Fransisco area with this great home as our base. The house was beautiful, in a safe area and it was very clean. Everything worked in the home and it was stocked with the basics for laundry, linens and cooking items like olive oil/spices. Our family of 6 had a great time and the house suited us well (2 adults, 4 kids). With a larger family, sometimes extra plates, bowls & cups would have been nice, but this was just a minor inconvenience. We had a great trip! The house is conveniently located. Parking could be a challenge, especially towards evening, but it really never took us longer than 10-15 minutes to find a space & the parking was always w/in a few blocks from the house at the most. Thanks for providing our family with a great place to stay!

We are 2 minutes from the California 1 bus line which is connected to every part of the city by public transit. It is a lovely 25 minute walk down Lake Street to Baker Beach, adjacent to the Golden Gate Bridge, with its view of San Francisco and the Pacific Ocean, and where you can occasionally see whales, seals and dolphins.
