We have lived in San Francisco since 1983 and love its diversity and excitement. I am a local attorney and own my firm. My wife Malu and I love raising our 2 children here in this wonderful city. Malu graduated from one of Switzerland's top hotel management schools where she managed 5 star hotels. We live across the street from this vacation property and love our neighborhood.
Malu Soderquist purchased this apartment in 1997
This is a great neighborhood, mostly consisting of families in one and two unit buildings. It is extremely quiet at night, remarkable for being in the center of a vibrant city, where the bars and restaurants are only a 5 minute walk away.
This is a pretty home, with some lovely built ins and details. Constructed in 1908, just a few years after the 1906 earthquake, it sits on what was once sand dunes stretching down to Ocean Beach, 3 miles away. A few hundred feet away is a marker showing the spot in 1776 where the first Spaniards camped when they first came to San Francisco to establish Mission Dolores. In this relatively small city of 700,000 there is a world class ballet, symphony and theater. Exhilarating hiking and biking trails surround the Bay, and there is access to every sport and leisure activity. The highly rated restaurants vie with the lesser known but exciting eateries. We love our city and hope you will too!
We have had the good fortune to have been able to stay in Malu & Phil's home on several visits to SF. It is an ideal location for us, since it is near where our children live. The home is beautifully appointed with everything one needs for a comfortable vacation. It also happens to be one of the nicest homes we have been in in SF... Very clean, well kept...has a lovely decor...and what ever you need is provided... You will not want for anything.....any questions you have can be answered by Malu or Phil. They are so kind...and thoughtful! ( on one of our stays, our son married our now daughter in- law... Malu and Phil left us a bouquet of white roses, heart balloons, and a bottle of wine with a sweet note congratulating us! What a lovely touch!) you can't go wrong with this property!
My sister and her two 20-something daughters joined me for a Girls San Francisco adventure and were lucky enough to stay in this beautiful home. We couldn't have imagined anything more perfect. The neighborhood is quiet with an idyllic backyard, where you can see lots of sweet hummingbirds. It is away from the maddening crowd, but convenient to all of the wondrous sights of San Francisco and surrounding area. Beautifully appointed, spotlessly clean, and with all the conveniences of home, we were truly sad to leave our "home away from home." Additionally, the owners were exceptional hosts and very helpful. I will highly recommend this beautiful home to friends and family, and hope that on our return trip we will be able to stay there again.
This house was everything the listing said it was and more. From moments after arriving, the owner came over and introduced herself and welcomed us with cookies which were delicious!! The house was beautifully remodeled and clean. The king size bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. Having bikes to ride was such a bonus! We took advantage of that and rode to Ocean Beach which was breathtaking. We also used the grill outside to cook some of the spectacular seafood purchased just blocks away. They had a manual which gave great tips and references to restaurants, markets, etc. This was great to use, along with maps to help plan our adventures. The only thing not referenced in there was what to do in a earthquake, which happened for the first time in 25 years in that area. Who would have thought that would happen? If I had to have any negative comments, it would be the loud renters above us with young kids running around. But this certainly did not stop us from having a wonderful vacation. We loved all the advice we received from the owner prior to coming out. She was so helpful in answering any questions very promptly. I would highly recommend this rental, it was in a great location and accessible to so many things. We didn't get to get to everything on our list so we may have to come back. We are so appreciative of them renting their house to us. Don't pass this one up!
This amazing home is truly a "treat" to stay in. The owners, Malu & Phil, created a beautifully furnished and extremely comfortable place for travelers to call home while visiting San Francisco and the Bay Area. Our family found the home well furnished and spacious for three adults, the beds comfortable, the bathrooms very modern, and the wonderful kitchen full of everything we needed to host a big family dinner. The backyard is filled with flowering bushes and tall trees and has a tiled patio with outdoor furniture. The home in ideally located a block from the Presidio where our family hiked and biked our way to the Golden Gate Bridge or just enjoyed strolls along the trails to take in the beauty of the park. It is also conveniently located to easily drive out of the city, over the Golden Gate Bridge, and into Sausalito and onward to visit Napa Valley and Sonoma wine country. We also walked about a mile (20 minutes) to visit the Golden Gate Park, the de Young Art Museum (be sure to go up to the top floor of the tower to see the panoramic views), the Japanese Tea Garden, the Conservatory of Flowers, and where the California Academy of Science is located. Best of all though, was the opportunity this home gave us to meet our baby granddaughter for the first time--because of Malu and Phil, we were able to stay in this charming home that is only a few blocks from our son & daughter-in-law and our newest addition to our family. What a memorable stay we had in this VRBO home. We hope to return again!
We felt so comfortable and at home, Malu's hospitality and kindness made our stay extra special. The beds are very comfortable, the house location is ideal and after our long day of sight seeing we truly enjoyed having their comfortable home to return to.
Thank you Maul and Phil, we will be back again some day.
We stayed in this apartment for a week, with our 3 small children. Everything about it was amazing. The property itself was spotlessly clean, with beautiful furnishings, books, linens and kitchen equipment. A travel crib was provided for our infant daughter, and was made cozy and comfortable for her. Malu left us wine and amazing cookies, which were both most welcome after a 10 hour flight from the UK. The owner also assisted us personally in helping meet the challenges resulting from my disability, showing kindness and generosity that was amazing.
Overall, the property exceeded our expectations in every way. We were very sad to leave, but really hope to visit "our" SF home again very soon. We would be happy to recommend this property to everyone we know - but are also tempted toy keep it just for us!
It was an honour and a privilege to stay in this apartment, thank you.
We are located within 2 minutes of The Presidio National Park, which includes free tennis courts, basketball and picnicking, and the gorgeous Presidio Golf Course (and driving range) a 10 minute walk from the vacation home. We are also a 20 minute walk, or 5 minute car ride from Golden Gate Park, which has the internationally renowned Academy of Sciences and the DeYoung Art Museum, Japanease Tea Garden and Botanical Garden, together with an array of musical concert arenas, sports fields and walking areas. We are a 3 minute walk from San Francisco's 'Little Chinatown' on Clement Street, with its numerous restaurants of every nationality, and eclectic book stores, pastry shops and cafes. We are 2 minutes from the California 1 bus line which is connected to every part of the city by public transit. It is a lovely 25 minute walk down Lake Street to Baker Beach, adjacent to the Golden Gate Bridge, with its view of San Francisco and the Pacific Ocean, and where you can occasionally see whales, seals and dolphins.
