Walnut cottage is a very versatile property as it can be let as a cosy retreat 'a deux' being 2 bedrooms in the main house but for larger parties the adjoining part of the house can be opened .So we can accomodate to your individual needs,

Fully well equipped kitchen/diner with dishwasher .

Lounge / sitting room with log burner satellite free view t v, dvd bookcase with a large selection of books dvds and games for adults and children patio area table & chairs with parasol and the all important barbecue for that out door dinning experience, adjacent to your cottage is a large games room with table tennis, children`s pool / snooker table, darts, table football, etc. Outside there are children's swings and climbing frame,and grassed areas to play boules, tennis and badminton. Then your own private swimming pool ( open end of June till end of Sept ) 8mt x 4mt x 1.2mt deep in ground salt water with seating area with sun loungers and parasols.

About Mike or Emma

Hi we are Mike and Emma! both from the north of England Mike is from North Yorkshire and I'm from Northumberland although we have both worked all over !! Mike in the U.K and myself the u.k and europe and the u.s.a . Between the two of us we have 'numerous ' years of experience in the catering and hospitality buisness having previously owned a hotel . We both took the decision to move to France this year afters years of visiting i have French family in the north and south . I have a 11 year old daughter Annabelle and we have 2 dogs Brodie and Tag .

Why Mike or Emma chose Messe

As soon as we walked through the gates we new this was the property for us we had been looking for a good few years but when we saw Les Arbres Du Noix we new that this little piece of France was for us !. Mike loves the potiou charente having holidayed and spent alot of time here i however was not as familiar with the region but when i visited i fell in love ! Whats not to like it's the second sunniest region in France the fields upon fields of sunflowers the great shopping at markets and nearby cities the road links are great and life is at a much steadier pac theres no need to rush for anything . And wait until you experience the sunsets and night skies they are fantastic !!!

What makes this cottage unique

Here at Les Arbres Du Noix theres lots to keep you entertained just sitting in one of the grassed areas wether its under the pagoda watching dragon flies skimming the pool or sitting under the shade of the walnut tree reading a book maybe playing games in the games room or taking advantage of the countryside - its great cycling country (very flat ) or sitting enjoying a glass of wine and nibbles at the picnic table im sure you will understand why we chose to move !!!

Walnut cottage is a 3 bedroom all en suite semi dettached from the owners home we live on site and there to offer help should you have any need . La Roche Elie is a peaceful hamlet set in open farmland surrounded in the summer by fields upon fields of sunflowersin the heart of the picturesque Deux Sevres in the Poitiou Charente.

Your holiday home can comfortably accomodate up to 9 people with all the facilities you need to keep yourself and your family entertained for a perfect relaxing holiday .We provide a safe and secure enviroment with fenced and gated surroundings.

It is ideal walking and cycling country with plenty of wildlife and birds not to mention goats we are on the route de chabichou so if you love goats cheese you can pop into the farm opposite as they are award winning cheese makers or even meet the goats and see how the cheese is made by having a tour !.

We are 10 mins from the nearest market town of Couhe or 15 from Lezay with its famous Tuesday market . Both have supermarkets and town ammenities bars,cafes,restaurants etc .The nearest village is Rom at 2km famous for it's Roman history there is a small museum dedicated to this and on going excavations . Rom has a bar/tabac with a small shop and it's own traditional boulangerie . There is a bread van that visits us daily should you not wish to venture far bringing freshly made items .

Walnut cottage is an ideal place for families,friends or groups or a quiet treat 'a deux' out of season . La Rochelle and Cognac are in easy distance of the house with being just 12km from the N10 which links Bordeaux and Poitiers. We are within reach of all major ferry ports with good road and rail links also the airports of Nantes ,Poitiers,La Rochelle,Bordeaux and Limoges .

Theres lots to do and see history heritage shopping theme parks beaches outdoor pursuits brocantes vide-greniers or just sit back relax and enjoy your own home from home and pool . However you wish to spend your time there is something for everyone here in Frances second sunniest region! ..

France At Its Best 2011

When visiting France it is often very difficult to select the perfect location, Well we found it in Walnut Tree Cottage, This was not a holiday where we felt we needed to do any thing else except sit and relax, However having two thirteen year old girls on the trip we found plenty to keep them occupied canoeing, shopping, swimming, the local ape centre not to mention walking mainly around the local market and countryside, The nearby town was very well equipped for all our holiday needs.

On our arival the owners Colin and Greta greeted us with a warm and friendly welcome. We were shown around the cottage which was both clean and very well equipped providing us with comfort and personal space.
The outside space was equally well equipped with the chance to play babmington and booles also the use of a private pool which was in use all day,There was an excellent games room allowing us the evening ritual of a game of pool and ping pong .

Colin and Greta throughout our 2 week stay were the perfect owners allowing us to totally relax and if we did have any question they were very pleased to offer assistance.
We would recomend this holiday location to anyone who wants to relax and yet not get bored with the local area.
La Rochelle and Poitiers are well worth the visit and very easy to get to.

We will be going back when we get the opportunity and have recommended this to our friends and family.

Our family (2 adults, 3 children (7, 4 an 1 year old) really enjoyed our summer holiday (July 2011, unfortunately rather cloudy as the rest of europe) at the Walnut Tree Cottage. At our arrival Colin was so friendly to help us unpack the car as it was raining at the time. The owners were very friendly and helped us with questions as where is the nearest bakery, ... and had helpful tips for visiting the region. Rooms are very spacious, so if weather is not that great there is enough place inside. Our kids really enjoyed the swing, the goats nearby, the nice and well listening dog gipsy. We even made our own runningring... Pool was well equipped and cleaned daily. Great possibility that this wasn't our last visit.

Fantastic Holiday @ La Roche Elie Nr Messe

Mum, Dad and 2 children aged 12 and 9 encountered a fantastic 2 weeks holiday during July 2010. Everyone was accommodated for, thanks to the private pool, well stocked games room, swings, TV (to catch up on the Tour De France), local well stocked supermarkets providing fresh produce and very reasonably priced wines! However the hospitality of Colin and Greta was second to none and nothing was a problem. The accommodation was clean and the pool was cleaned everyday. Loads of room for the kids to run off steam when not in the pool or games room and no fast traffic near by.

The location is situated in a small hamlet yet close enough to the motorway for trips to surrounding tourist attractions. Some of the places we visited: Angouleme, Poitiers, Bordeaux, La Rochelle. The area is fantastic for cycling, a great mix of flat and rolling countryside, and not too far away from the 2011 Tour de France route.

However if you want an extra special holiday that's a little bit different we would recommend the option of having Colin as your own personal pilot for sight seeing! We flew to La Rochelle from Angouleme and returned after some fantastic sightseeing from the air in a 4 seat aircraft. (3 passengers and Colin).

We have no hesitation in recommending this good sized Gite, called Walnut Cottage.

Family holiday August 2010

Our family of 5 adults and 1 child had a fabulous time staying at Walnut Tree Cottage-some of us for two weeks. The house was comfortable, clean and very well equipped for families. The games room was well used but the pool was the biggest draw for us all. Fab weather helped but the peace and quiet of La Roche Elie made it a perfect retreat from the real world! Visited the coast twice and La Rochelle is well worth a visit as is the Monkey sanctuary at La Valley de Singe. Local shops were well stocked but do shut at lunchtime which caught us out a few times. Greta and Colin could not have been more welcoming and helpful. If you are looking for a relaxing, peaceful comfortable time away this is the place and we would thoroughly recommend it to family and friends.

Tranquility in the Charente region

Our family holiday this year was peaceful, relaxing and idyllic ! We arrived to find the property both clean and tidy. The friendly and welcoming hosts familiarised us with all the facilities which included a salt-water pool (1.5m deep thoughout) and games room which turned out to be a real bonus for all of us but especially our teenagers! We enjoyed the tranquil location which was buzzing with wildlife! There were plenty of local activities to choose from which included a trip to Futuroscope, a canoeing adventure in Vivonne and a leisurely stroll through a Primate Park.The weather during our stay was glorious with blue skies every day and temperatures rising to the early 30s.We spent most evenings BBQing and enjoying the peace and quiet with a glass or two of local wine! Added highlights included watching the nearby goats being taken out for their evening stroll. Some people may be put off with the thought of goats nearby but we did not smell a thing!
We'd definitely recommend this property to both friends and family and may venture back in future years when we've explored other regions in France!
