ISLAND GETAWAY - HAWAI'I BIG ISLAND UNIQUE PAVILLION-STYLE ACCOMMODATION

Honaunau Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Tropical Gardens, Pool, & Hot Tub, Make This The Perfect Island Getaway!

Nestled within a stand of lush tropical plants, this unique cottage offers a delightful indoor/outdoor living experience – 3 of 4 walls are screened, opening the studio to the sensual tropical air that is such a wonderful part of Hawai'ian living.

Outside, a covered lana'i and outdoor shower (great after a trip to nearby Ho'okena Beach), are bordered by a bamboo grove and banana trees. A pool and hot tub are all steps away, as are mangoes, avocados and papayas.

Inside is furnished with rattan furniture, a dreamy queen-sized bed, and plenty of space for relaxing. The kitchen is compact and complete – featuring a dishwasher, microwave, 4-burner gas cook top, and convection/toaster oven. Custom-built bamboo cabinetry ties everything together in unmistakable island style.

We loved designing, building and living in our little cottage. It gives us great pleasure to share this love with like-minded guests who are seeking something more authentic than your typical 'condo experience'.

Suitability:
  • not suitable for children
  • non smoking only
  • wheelchair inaccessible
  • pets not allowed
  • Long-term Renters Welcome

We are on the cusp of retirement and love the idea of having this wonderful island getaway to share with people.

Rennie is a software developer, and Hope is a property manager.

We love to travel, especially when warm water is involved! Although we have traveled many places, this is our favorite place to enjoy rest and relaxation.

Hope & Rennie Innis purchased this cottage in 2004

The first time we arrived here, we thought this was the perfect place to spend our island vacation. Being so close to great snorkeling, beaches and close enough to Kona for a night out, we loved this getaway cottage so much that we returned a year later to purchase it.

Being in a beautiful tropical garden, with the pool, hot tub and gorgeous view of the ocean and mountain volcano, this place is sublime.

BEAUTIFULLY FURNISHED COMFORTABLE, PRIVATE COTTAGE

  • 5 of 5
This cottage is even nicer than the photos can show. It is a beautifully furnished, private cottage in a convenient location. The cottage is unique in its design and one of the nicest we have ever stayed. It was like luxury camping with all the amenities of a first class condo. Every detail was thought of from the supply of towels, the good pots and pans and local information to the fresh fruit and tasteful decor. It was a pleasure to communicate with Hope and Rennie. Their response to messages was prompt and pleasant. We prefer the sounds of nature; frogs and roosters to the sounds of big resorts so it was so nice to come "home" to our cottage in the evening after a day of swimming, snorkeling or visiting parks. We enjoyed having the pool, easy parking, and internet, but most of all, the inviting garden surrounded lanai and the outdoor shower. My husband didn't get a single mosquito bite, but for those like me, the mosquito net over the bed and Deet free spray are provided. We would highly recommend "Island Getaway". Although there are many great beaches within a quick 15 minute drive, we also drove to the Kohala Coast for a swim at the world class Kahuna Beach one day in a little over an hour. There is a nice feel to the general area of Honaunau, just south of Captain Cook. One could easily spend weeks comfortably in this cottage. Our week went way too quickly!

AMAZING TROPICAL GETAWAY

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed here for our 10-year anniversary and it was perfect. The cottage is completely private and very close to some of the area's best attractions (Two Steps and Painted Church, to name a few). If you want a place close to night life and you want to stay up late and sleep in, this place is likely not for you. If you want a place that is peaceful and relaxing, and you want to wake up to the sounds of birds and the smell of plumeria trees, you'll be very happy here. It has so much personality and you truly feel like you are on a one-of-a-kind Big Island vacation. If we come back to the Big Island, I would stay here again in a heart beat.

OUTDOORS INDOORS

  • 5 of 5
We spent five gorgeous nights here, screened from the night but feeling very much a part of the Hawaiian environment. The cottage is well equipped and beautifully built, just like the photos portray. The most fun was taking showers outside and sitting by the pool. Bring a book and enjoy the peace. The overseer, KT, was a delight and very helpful. The coffee shop nearby is worth a stop. We liked the Place of Refuge so much we went there twice. Give this place a try, you will never regret it.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COTTAGE

  • 5 of 5
We loved the privacy of this place. It was small but so well thought out, organized, clean, and most of all it was beautiful. We liked the area it is located in for it's rural setting but still close to services and sites we enjoyed. We hope to stay here again.

WONDERFUL, EXACTLY AS ADVERTISED

  • 5 of 5
The Island Getaway was perfect for our honeymoon. Private and with all the comforts of home, it was a great home base to get away from it all while never being too far from from the attractions of Kailua-Kona and other destinations on the Kona coast.
The owners are attentive and helpful. The endless supply of fruit from the property was delicious. The snorkeling down the road was the best we've ever experienced on any of the islands (a pod of wild dolphins joined us the very first morning).

BIG ISLAND BEAUTY!!

  • 5 of 5
Had a fantastic time staying in the cottage. We traveled the entire island using the cottage as base camp. It is located close enough to highways to get your adventure started. We ventured to snorkel local beaches, volcano park, black sand beach, up north to zip line and east to Hilo. Do stop in Kona and purchase any groceries you would like to use as the local market is quite a bit more expensive. Stop by the local coffee roasters and purchase coffee for french press coffee. Its amazing. (So are the local Kona potato chips!) The cottage is exactly as pictured. The night cool breezes make for restful sleep. The birds and frogs will sing you to sleep. Seeing green lizards, hearing the roosters in the morning and an occasional mongoose run by are part of the charm. Fruit on the property is great too. The swimming pool is private, cold and deep. Not for non swimmers. The greenery on the property are well maintained and keep the cottage private. Having a washer/dryer in the cottage was a plus. Having internet/cable allows you to disconnect at a comfortable level, or quiet enough to be completely disconnected. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to relax and just chill. Not a resort. No wait staff. No gift shop. No uniformed staff. If you want that - book a resort. This is a local, sweet and romantic get away. Love it and can't wait to return.

This unique cottage is located on the south Kona coast, just minutes from the best snorkeling in the Hawai'ian islands.

You will also be in the famed Kona coffee region, where some of the best coffee in world is grown. You can sample this coffee, or take an informative tour, at nearby roasters.

Not to be missed is the Volcano's National Park, 1 1/2 hours drive from this location. Watch the earth being formed before your eyes when you visit the Kilauea crater.

One of the State of Hawai'i's two National Historic Parks is the 'City of Refuge', located 2 minutes, or 1.6 miles from the cottage. This historic and restored ruins will give you a sense of the island's fascinating history, and is adjacent to enticing 'Two Step' snorkeling.

There is a small coffee shop/cafe one mile up the road in Honaunau that serves fresh local Kona coffee, homemade goodies, and breakfast and lunch.

The amazing Fruit Stand is just a bit further south and has fruits that you will have never even heard of!

Painted Church is a well-known attraction. It is a 10 minute walk from the cottage, and is a simple wooden structure whose hand-painted interior decor was meant to replicate the glory of the cathedrals. Catholic services are held and are posted. You will be welcome.
