Welcome to our beautiful newly constructed home near the peak of Spread Eagle Mountain. This property gets its name, 'Maple Grove', as it is located on the site of a family-owned maple syrup production business (commonly referred to as a 'sugarbush'), which has existed for six generations.
A quiet location on a private mountain road that is only minutes away from the small hamlet of Keene Valley, NY. This house has 3 bedrooms with 3 full baths plus a reading loft. The master suite has a king sized bed and full bath, one bedroom has a queen sized bed and a full bath and another bedroom has two twin beds and a full bath across the hall. The reading loft has two air mattresses.
The living room/kitchen/dining area is an open concept design with plenty of windows for a full panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. Amenities in the kitchen include a refrigerator, range, microwave, dishwasher and breakfast bar area, a half bath and a washer and dryer.
Cable modem internet and large screen televisions with cable service are available free of charge when you are not too busy enjoying the outdoors.
Amazing views of the Adirondack High Peaks with many of the major trail heads to hike in the back yard.
The 1932 and 1980 Olympic host village of Lake Placid is 20 minutes away. See the many venues and stroll, shop and enjoy everything the Lake Placid area has to offer.
There are three championship quality golf courses in the immediate area, including Whiteface Mountain Club, two 18 hole courses at the Lake Placid Club and the Craig Wood Golf Club.
The 'sixth' great lake, Lake Champlain, is a short 45 minute drive away. The Canadian border and the extraordinary City of Montreal, Quebec are approximately 100 miles to the north.
'Maple Grove', with its rich history as a 'sugarbush', can be your base camp for hiking, rock climbing, skiing, sightseeing, golfing, fishing, boating or just relaxing in a quiet mountain setting.
John and Rebecca Odell live at the bottom of Spread Eagle Mountain, just minutes from Maple Grove Retreat. Becky is from Keene Valley and our three children were raised in this small community.
We have taken care of the seasonal homes of others for many years and decided to create our own special vacation retreat.
Becky or John Odell purchased this house in 2012
This property can be traced back through Becky's family to the end of the Civil War. Levi Lamb walked back to the North Country to save money and bought large portions of land. Maple Grove Retreat is located on a small piece of this property. This is also where the family maple syrup sugarbush is located.
Our family of 5 (2 adults, 9, 8 and 6 year olds) plus the labradorite had an amazing time in this beautiful home. We went to lake placid to ski whiteface die the first time and we could not have been more comfortable and accommodated. The house is spectacularly designed and well kept. You are about 25 mins to whiteface and lake placid downtown.
The home itself is warm and spacious and very secluded. There are great amenities like tv's with Internet access as well as high speed wireless. The kitchen is well stocked and the linens are soft and clean.
The views of the snow capped mountains and the amazing maple grove and babbling brook make the property picturesque!
The house is just gorgeous and has everything you need for a great stay. . .plenty of beds, glasses, dishes, towels--you might feel more at home than at home! The location is equally gorgeous; leafy solitude, sunshine filtering through the trees, great walking road. . .and Becky and John are wonderful owners who are there if you need them and not there if you don't! Though we went in early summer, I imagine it is just as wonderful a place to stay for any season. There were six of us, total, and we had plenty of room--three bathrooms made it easy to have privacy. This is very close to Keene, not far from Lake Placid, but we stayed at the house the entire time, cooking, dancing, laughing. . .a truly terrific time. I would highly recommend this location and would love to make our retreat an annual event! I would hesitate to recommend this to anyone with any type of walking disability or movement difficulties as there are lots of stairs and the ladder to the loft area is quite steep. If you wanted to be in walking distance to nightlife or restaurants, then I might not suggest it, but if those issues are of no concern to you, then I think you should consider this beautiful location! Of great value to me personally, is the owners' willingness to allow for two nights and not forcing a third night when my group wouldn't have been able to swing that amount of time. Becky and John are hospitable and welcoming and do all in their power to make your trip a good one:) Enjoy your travels!
Our family of five had a great four-night stay. The house is beautifully designed, equipped and maintained, and we'd love to return. We used it as a base for hiking in the mountains, paddling in Saranac, and even a day trip to Montreal when it rained. Our 14 year old son chose to sleep up in the loft (with its cool ladder), so the kids each had their own room. One day we hiked up Levi Lamb road (very steep) to the trail head for Spread Eagle and Hopkins, which are otherwise hard to access since there is no public parking. Although there are other homes nearby, the property is wooded and quiet, with a nice stream gurgling in the distance. A great getaway!
Beautiful week end , warm and sunny , perfect for hicking! that house is completely new, very confortable, everything we needed to spend a good time. the location is private, nearby there is everything you need to plan your hicking activities, 20 min from lake placid. multiple hicking trails are starting very near, we hicked Cascade, Catamount, and Pok-o-moonshine. Very good communication with the howners, the house is fully equiped, kitchen , bathroom, shower, restroom, everything is new and functionnal. we look forward to rent it again next year! thanks! familly with four kids(7 to 11 yo), from Quebec!
We had a wonderful time staying at this impeccably clean, beautiful house!! It could not be more comfortable or better designed, and the location was perfect for us: quiet and peaceful and glorious, yet minutes from trailheads for hiking. John and Becky were extremely nice and completely accomodating, and we are already looking forward to returning! Thanks, John and Becky, for a great, great stay.
My friends and I stayed at this amazingly beautiful and clean two story house in the woods. There were 8 of us staying at the house and at no point did we feel like we were crowding each other. No lines for the bathrooms and plenty of hot water for showers after a day of climbing/hiking. The house had everything we needed... from pots and pans... to washer and dryer... to coffee mugs... to wine glasses.
Not only was the house great but so were the owners. John and Becky were very nice and accommodating.
The location was ideal because it was close to the climbing and hiking areas. I look forward to renting this place again in the future.
