Guanajuato House Rental Photos and Description

Beautiful 4 BR 2 Bath house with big balcony and terrasse

Casa Bella Vista: Great, beautiful contemporary Mexican-style 3-storey house with gorgeous views, in a very safe neighborhood. Nice comfortable private rooms with real beds (matrimonial in 3 bedrooms + queen in Master BR), good light in each room. Big balcony off 2nd floor. The 3rd floor has a huge 40' x 20' deck with 300 degree view of the city, perfect for entertaining. Great, large kitchen, and spacious Dining Room, Living Room. Beautiful tiled bathroom on the main floor, and full bathroom on the second floor as well. Parking for 2 cars, very nice garden with native plants. Fantastic quiet cul-de-sac, and safe, friendly neighborhood. It's a 15-20 minute leisurely walk to Centro. Buses are readily available for 5 pesos (40 cents) and you can easily flag a taxi to go back and forth for 30 pesos ($2.40) to Centro. Internet WIFI. Because it is perched on a hill, the house is always comfortable (not too hot, not too cold) and gets a lot of light. The guests rooms all have windows that open to the interior shaft for air ventilation. With its panoramic views from both the balcony and the deck, you see the sunrise, and the sunset.

About Martine Bilodeau

Originally from rural Quebec (1 1/2 hour from Quebec City), I'm an Artist Painter/Scenic Artist from Vancouver. After traveling in different areas of Asia and Latin America in the past 10 years, I chose Guanajuato as my second home for its incredible light, colours, consistently sunny and warm weather, very friendly locals, very safe city, rich culture, and proximity to home (all the things I don't want to live without). I bought the house recently, and I see it as as wonderful and inspiring place for artists and innovative minds. I like that it's truly Mexican with tiles from renowned Dolores Hidalgo 1 hour away. During my travels, I found that a home away from home was important, and that's what I want to provide for people. It's also a good base for going to other wonderful cities like Guadalajara and Mexico City. I have a daughter in her 20's and her and I shared custody of a very loving MinPin Chihuahua, until they both moved to Montreal. I miss them both very much, and plan to visit a lot. Life is very short. Why not live it! I lived in Germany in my 20's, where my daugher was born, so I understand a certain level of German. And of course, I make my way in Spanish.

Martine Bilodeau purchased this house in 2011

Why Martine Bilodeau chose Guanajuato

This house is such an inspiration for artists! I painted 30 paintings in 3 months from the terrasse and its fantastic views. The Balcony also is a great place to chill and has great views as well. The house is very spacious, and always comfortable.

What makes this house unique

My neighours are all from the same large family so we all watch for each other. It's a very safe place to be, away from the traffic and crowd. The view from the very spacious Master Bedroom would make anyone fall in love with the place.

Beautiful, well appointed house in Guanajuato, Guanajuato

  • 5 of 5
This house was so beautiful. It felt safe. The group staying was a multi-generational family and we were all comfortable. We did tons of cooking, and we definitely appreciated that the house had every cooking utensil imaginable. There are a couple corner markets nearby for groceries within walking distance.

Martine's caretaker picked us up and helped us get settle. The next door neighbors were helpful too.

El hombre quien cuida la casa por Martine nos recogio y nos ayudo en establecernos en la casa. El vecino nos ayudo tambien.

Great stay at Casa Bella Vista

  • 4 of 5
Our friends and us (8 total) stayed at Casa Bella Vista for about 4 days and it was great. There was plenty of beds and space for everyone in the house. The views from the roof top are awesome and having a glass of wine watching the sunset is beautiful and relaxing. The house is around the corner from the mommies museum and like a 15min. walk to downtown. For elderly people (seniors) I would suggest taking a taxi (35 pesos). The only bad thing was that the pans to cook on are kind of old and very sticky. We had a hard time cooking eggs on them. And making coffee with the percolator was different, but not very efficient if making coffee for 4 adults since it only makes about 2 1/2 cups at a time, so a coffee maker would work better. Other than that we had a great time. Stephen was very nice and polite, and had suggestions of places to go to and Martine was very fast at answering emails and seems very nice too. Thank you for letting us use your house. Hope to see you again soon!

Owner's Response: Hi Ana, it was a pleasure having you! I have non-stick pans of the healthier kind, and a bigger French Press in my luggage for my next trip to the house. Sorry it was inconvenient, but they don't have much of a selection in Gto, so every time I come to the house from Canada, I bring something of much better quality, and there is a little bit of an improvement every year.

Perfect for a family!

  • 5 of 5
Loved this property! The location was great for us. We could get around on the bus because everyone knows where the mummy museum is. The kitchen was well stocked and a small store nearby for milk and eggs. We decided last minute to go and the owner answered right away! If we ever get a chance to go back, this is where we'll stay!

Great house for our first stay in Guanajuato

  • 5 of 5
We spent 3 nights at Martine's house in Guanajuato during New Year's week 2013-14. The house is just as described and Martine was great to communicate with. She answers emails very quickly which was great since this was a last minute trip. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils, cookware, and dishes and had everything we needed to prepare simple meals while at the house. It is just a quick walk to the Mummy museum. It is easy to walk down the hill and into the Centro. We have 4 kids, so we usually took the bus or the taxi back up the hill, as is suggested. Amazing view from the 2nd floor deck and the roof. Temperature in Guanajuato was quite chilly and the house was quite cool, but we wrapped up in blankets. The wifi worked well for us throughout our stay. This property while not luxury, is a fantastic value, VERY clean, comfortable, great for families, and traditionally Mexican. We loved all the star light fixtures! We prefer to stay in houses when we travel because it's easier with the kids to have some common areas. Antonia, the neighbor across the street was great to open the house and lock up when we left. There are several little "convenience stores" to be found in the walk down the street on the way to the Centro where we were able to buy fruits and veggies, fresh juice and tortillas and eggs for breakfast. The Comercial Mexicana in town is a regular grocery store where you can get anything you can't find in the little stores near the house. This is also within walking distance. Would definitely stay here again. We left our car parked at the house and walked during our stay.

20 minutes hike to Zona Centro, near Mommias Museum. On your walk to Zona Centro, you can see the Alhondiga Museum, Hidalgo market, Commercial, Jardin Reforma, and Plaza San Francisco ( very quiet park with restaurants), and the Diego Riviera and Frida Khalo house/museum (tucked on a side street). There are small local grocery shops 2 minutes from the house, and 5 minutes down is the Tepetapa street with its many diverse small shops. The walk is very easy to the Centro, but it's easier to take a taxi back home (for 30 pesos or $2.40), cause it's fairly steep, or take the readily available bus (5 pesos or $0.40) up the Tepetapa (Take the Mommias or Nuevo Panteon, and then hike the last 5 minutes. If you take the Mommias, you can stay on the bus to go around the hill all the way up to the sign that says 'Bano' just above the museum Mommias. It will save you the hike along the Panteon Wall.

A typical day is to have a smoothie and breakfast in the house in the morning, then stroll down to the Centro and visit, stopping along for a snack at the Hidalgo Mercado; then visit some more, and have an afternoon 3-course meal (drink included) for $5-$7 in one of the nice small restaurants close to University, then slowly make your way back, shopping for your night meal at the Hidalgo Mercado, and take the bus or taxi back on time to catch some more sun and watch the sunset by 6pm. (Downtown gets very cool in the shade after 2pm, but the house has the sun all day).
