Palermo Tranquilo is a fully restored, one hundred year old, two bedroom vacation rental located in a lovely residential corner of the Palermo neighborhood in Buenos Aires. With 4 meter ceilings, tons of exposed brick, a retractable glass enclosure over the patio, and three sections of outdoor terrace, the property is antique and original, while at the same time modern and comfortable.
If you know the city well, then you'll love the location, just blocks from the boutique areas of Palermo (but not so close to the boutiques that you feel you're in 'Palermo Disney'). If you are new to Buenos Aires, you'll find an authentic porteño living experience with just enough helpful input to ensure that you're comfortable. Tree lined streets, open skies from the terrace, and connection to the Earth & outdoors are all a part of the propriedad horizontal construction and experience.
The spacious home was recently renovated by its owner, an American expat with more than seven years of living in Buenos Aires. The concept is a unique take on the Buenos Aires vacation home: a down to earth sense of the truly authentic porteño lifestyle, in a real neighborhood, with modern amenities and elegance in the decor and fixtures. In other words: homey and real, with just a touch of luxury while not spoiling the price point.
Guests are encouraged to treat the house as their home. A rotating wet bar is available, which you will restock on good faith. So, if you use the last of something, you're encouraged to replace it for future guests. And it's also nice to leave behind some memorabilia in the Blog. A photo or two of you & your group enjoying the place, and some comments about your stay, really help to keep Palermo Tranquilo feeling like home.

Kito grew up in a small beach town next to the ocean in Neptune Beach, Florida. He has lived in Germany, Amsterdam, Buenos Aires, Atlanta, and currently resides in San Francisco, California. Kito has traveled more than 45 countries, and was living in Buenos Aires, Argentina for the seven years between 2005 and 2013.
Kito purchased this house in 2010
This is the second of two properties that I own in Buenos Aires. The first is next door and was my home for many years. When this home came up for sale, I just couldn't say no. I love the antique construction style from 100-year old Buenos Aires, and truly enjoyed the laborious process of renovating both homes. It is an art form, to bring out the classical elements, while also giving the space a unique and comfortable feeling that is one and only.
Every detail was considered when renovating this space. I took great care, styling the home for my own tastes, to bring out a comfortable and down to earth feeling in the space. There are many apartments available for rent in Buenos Aires, but almost all of them are missing 'alma' (or soul). Palermo Tranquilo offers a true taste of life in a residential neighborhood of Buenos Aires, and with the comforts of Palermo and modern fixing also there.
We (2 adults) stayed in Tranquilo for 2.5-wks & would stay again. It is very unique as shown in the listing. All rooms are based off a central room w/a glass ceiling, which can be opened. The master bed, bath, sitting & kitchen all surround this central space which also has a gas fired heater & clothes washer under the stairs. The heater did a wonderful job of heating the entire space during the colder nights. The kitchen was well stocked & equipped with a regular sized refrigerator, 4-burner gas stove & gas oven. The kitchen is well equipped with an eclectic mix of service, more than adequate for 2 people & can easily serve four. The bathroom was on the smallish side, but well decorated with plenty of towels & hot water in the large, double headed shower. The sitting room is equipped with a couch, books, games & speakers (connects to iPod/MP3) ready to play music. Ceiling fans are in each room and every place possible has a window to be opened in order to catch the breeze. On the second floor (fairly narrow steps but not unmanageable) is the second bedroom (with another stereo, small fridge and sink), and sitting area (great for reading & watching the occasional cat walk across the glass ceiling). Up a second small flight of stairs is the roof with parilla, outdoor dining (a glass enclosed room with a table, sink, & storage) & a second small sun terrace with outdoor shower.
Electricity in Buenos Aires is 220v & the outlets will accept either European style 2 prong adapters or bladed “Australian” style adapters. The flat was equipped with 1 USB Australian plug & 1 adaptor for our other devices. There are plenty of outlets throughout. The flat is equipped with WiFi. We never encountered a moment of trouble with the wifi, and were able to stream music, TV and movies throughout our stay.
We had no neighbor noise, but did hear some dog barking. A supermarket is less than a block from the flat. There are smaller markets on every block around the flat, as are cafes/restaurants, & places to purchase/recharge your Sube card. Rubbish bins are communal, the closest is across the street.
Kito & Gabriela responded to our questions promptly. Tranquilo is very comfy and an oasis of calm after touristing all day. The flat is close to everything, but is outside the tourist noise. If you are looking for a place to stay that’s like staying at a friend’s home -- this is it.
We chose to stay here for 3 weeks and really enjoyed it. The house has a lovely antique charm. Kito has done a great job at renovating. It would probably be too small for three adults, but for 2 adults +/- a child is perfect. It is very close to nice restaurants and opposite to a supermarket. On the nights we decided to stay in we would buy groceries from fruit/veggie shop on the corner, and meat or pasta from specialty stores nearby. Their kitchen is fantastic! It has a gas stove and is well stocked with utensils and crockery. Their glass retractable roof is wonderful as so much light just spills into the main living areas. The bedroom is nice, the lighting is poor, but gives it a romantic look. We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to other couples looking for a place in Palermo, Buenos Aires.
Just returned from a wonderful stay at Kito's place where we spent our last few days in Buenos Aires. If you have read Tales of the City by Armistad Maupin (a wonderful book), you will find Kito's place fits the feeling of this book which takes place in San Francisco, California, exactly! The home is steeped in age and charm. There are a few minor inconveniences which are outweighed by far by its charm. And the locaiton is excellent for enjoying Palermo especially, if not BA in general. Palermo alone has so much to offer in terms of great food and architecture, as well as street scenes and shops. Highly recommended!
I am pleased to leave a 100% positive review. My husband and I spent 1 week staying in this beautiful apartment. We were on our honeymoon. We were greeted by Gabriela the housing manager and oriented w keys and suggestions. The apartment itself is perfectly located in Palermo, just a short walk from an excess of trendy bars and restaurants. The apartment was clean, spacious, beautifully decorated and preserved. All appliances were fully functioning. The upstairs terrace was perfect for night caps and early morning tea in the sun. The bedroom is comfortable with a large bed and lots of nice pillows. There is even a phone for local calls in case you want to make reservations. The shower was Ritz Carlton worthy. Honestly, this is the nicest and most affordable apartment we have ever stayed in. It's basically a house AND a real piece of architectural history. This was our first time booking on VRBO. We already want to return and stay in this property again. Lastly, Kito the owner was quick to communicate w us via email and extremely pleasant to speak with. Do yourself a favor and indulge in this stunning apartment.
Before I comment on the property, I'd like to say a few words about the owner, Kito and his property manager, Gabriela. They are both, without question, 100% dedicated to making your stay as comfortable and hassle-free as possible. I've rented several properties through VRBO and have NEVER experienced such gracious, hospitable and empathetic hosts. Leading up to my trip, Kito and Gaby were ultra-responsive to my emails and went above and beyond their responsibilities to coordinate transportation, introduce several local contacts and even suggest upcoming events during our stay. Five-star hotel concierges should take lessons from these two. Needless to say, you're in great hands.
Regarding the property, it is simply amazing. The description could not be more accurate, and it is literally in the perfect location. Walking distance to popular restaurants, bars and parks. Supermarket across the street. Quiet. Peaceful. I didn’t want to leave and will most certainly be back. It feels like home, and it is just the place you are looking for to experience the Argentine culture in its purest form.
Hola Kito & Gabriela,
