Le Lapin is a 4-bedroom villa located in Hart Bay on the top of the large hill that separates Hart Bay from Chocolate Hole. We wanted to be able to enjoy both the morning sunrise and the evening sunset, so we built Le Lapin on a hilltop ridge that gives us outstanding east-west views. The lovely views span more than 300-degrees and include Hart Bay, Rendezvous Bay, the south shore of St. John, Chocolate Hole, Pillsbury Sound, St. Thomas, and most important, spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Because we’re the last villa on a dead end road, this is a very private and quiet setting. Although we’re well off the beaten path, it's less than a 10-minute drive into Cruz Bay.

The house is a 2-level home that has the kitchen, living areas, and 2 bedrooms on the lower level, while the two large master bedrooms are on the upper level, accessed by interior stairs. There are wraparound decks and covered porches on both levels. The large 34’ x 12' pool has a solar heating system that keeps it warm for nighttime swims, and the pool is surrounded by a beautiful tiled sundeck with colorful tropical landscaping. The pool and sundeck are located on the west side of the house where the breeze is gentle and the sun shines from sun up to sunset, and you have clothing optional privacy. Even though Le Lapin is a south facing home, its unique design keeps the house surprisingly cool and comfortable, even in the warmest summer months.

The lower level bedrooms have twin beds that convert to king beds, while the large master bedrooms on the upper level both have king beds. All 4 bedrooms have air conditioning, tiled baths and showers, walk in closets and views of Hart Bay through screened sliding glass doors. The bedrooms also have very good privacy with no common walls shared by any of them.

The living and dining areas capture east and west views through screened sliding glass doors. The living room includes a cable color TV/VCR and a stereo/cassette/CD.

You may dine inside at a teak table that seats 6-8, or outside on the covered deck overlooking the pool, also at a teak table for 6-8

The handsome kitchen has granite countertops, mahogany cabinets, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker, etc., 4 burner stove and oven, refrigerator/freezer, telephone and complete dinnerware, cookware and utensils. Guests also have access to a washer/dryer.

About The Owner

We’re a family from Connecticut that has been coming to this amazing island for more than twenty years. This is the second home we have built on St. John. The first villa was also on Hart Bay and we fell in love with this wonderful location, so when we built a larger second home it had to be on Hart Bay, and of course it had to have sunrise and sunset views. We were fortunate to find this hilltop location; it’s quite a beautiful spot and we love it and hope that you enjoy as much as we do.

Why The Owner chose Chocolate Hole

We love this setting for lots of reasons, but primarily because it has two distinct personalities. The east and south sides of the house overlook Hart Bay and the south coast of St. John. Here the sound of surf breaking on the beach below you is your background music, and the trade winds blowing in from the east are enlivening and refreshing. On the west side of the house the pool and sun deck is much more mellow, with soft breezes, lush tropical gardens and captivating views of west St. John and St. Thomas. Sunrise or sunset, bold view or relaxing view, wind in your face or gentle breeze on your bare skin – we love them both. This is also a location for sun lover's. From your bed you can watch the morning sun rise out of the sea, then bask in its warmth all day by the pool, and later watch it slowly set in a blaze of color. Also, the privacy of this location is excellent. No lost or curious tourist ever finds their way to Le Lapin because if you don’t have directions, you’ll never find us. Despite the wonderful privacy and serenity that surrounds us, we’re less than 10-minutes from great food, bars, and shopping and good times in Cruz Bay.

What makes this villa unique

Although a sunrise/sunset view is not unique to Le Lapin, it certainly is a rarity on St. John that only a few hill top homes enjoy. Almost every morning and evening Mother Nature puts on a dazzling display of color and light, and for the morning show you need only move an eyelid. For the sunset show, the refrigerator is only a few steps away from the western deck.

We’re also not the only villa with a solar heated pool that offers exceptional “no tan lines” privacy, but you’ll greatly enjoy both these highlights. The privacy factor is also found inside, as well as outside the house, with each bedroom and bath enjoying excellent privacy. Another rarity that is uniquely St. John is the sense of being far removed from civilization, yet you’re less than 10 minutes from Cruz Bay; it’s a bit of a conundrum but you’ll greatly enjoy it, especially when you’re driving home from Cruz Bay after an evening of top notch food, island drinks and friendly people.
