We’re a multi generational family from Massachusetts, and Mermaid Falls is the island home where we all get together and enjoy the unique pleasures of this wonderful island that we have come to love so much. There is something so uniquely special about family gatherings in this beautiful tropical setting. It may be that when you’re surrounded by peaceful and serene natural beauty the peacefulness envelops you and becomes a part of you. Or maybe it's because we're all on vacation, together, in such a wondrous setting. Whatever the reason, we tremendously enjoy the time we spend together here. Our memories of St. John are an everlasting treasure for all of us, as they will be for you and your family or friends.
Mermaid Falls was built in 2003 by the original developers of Peter Bay. This was the first home built in upper Peter Bay, and the developers selected the finest lot to build on because they wanted to build a showcase home that would (and did) establish upper Peter Bay as a neighborhood of distinguished homes. The favorite feature that we love that really distinguishes Mermaid Falls from other Peter Bay homes are the gorgeous views. Looking west, throughout the day the waters of Hawkesnest Bay turn vivid, almost neon shades of turquoise and blue, while in the late afternoon you're blessed by the colors of the sun setting behind St. Thomas. The views of Cinnamon Bay and Tortola in the east are also strikingly beautiful, while the view of Jost Van Dyke in the north is also gorgeous. This is a family that has traveled a lot, but we’ve never seen anything quite as beautiful, peaceful and naturally composed as the views that lie before us at Mermaid Falls. It brings us back, year after year, and being together with your family or special friends in Mermaid Falls - it's incredible.
We’re often asked where the name Mermaid Falls originated. A seemingly natural waterfall flows into the pool from a rocky outcropping and a mermaid overlooks this scene, thus the name Mermaid Falls. One of the unique things we love about this house is that it’s well designed for a large family like ours. The many private decks, patios and bedrooms combine so well with the common areas that we can be together and yet everyone can have their own space, which is great when you’ve got 6 or more people under the same roof. I was also taken with the overall ambiance of this villa, it’s both stately and elegant yet it’s not pretentious or overdone; everyone feels comfortable here. The hot tub is in a beautiful and private spot and everyone seems to really enjoy it, as well as the pool. The house stays so cool and comfortable that we rarely use the central a/c, but we know some guests seem to really appreciate it. The last thing that sets Mermaid apart that we love are the French doors and windows. They’re varnished mahogany and they require a lot of maintenance and affection, but they look so beautiful and they give the house an air of classic tropical elegance that they’re worth the effort. There’s lots more that’s unique about Mermaid but we’ll leave that for our guests to discover.
