Guntersville, Alabama is one of the most breathtaking areas in the South. Nestled at the base of the Appalachian range, visitors are hooked once they catch a glimpse of the spectacular natural beauty and colorful landscape offered by 950-miles of winding shoreline and 69,000-acres of the sparkling, fun-filled waters of Lake Guntersville.
The lake offers excellent boating, fishing, skiing, and swimming. There are three boat ramps within 2 miles of this lakehouse for easy access. In addition to the fabulous water activities, there are also great golfing opportunities in the area (four courses within 15 minutes) as well as a great waterside walking trail in town and numerous recreational facilities.
The atmosephere of the place was tremendous.
4 Couples stayed with plenty of room. There are 3 large beds and one of the couches pulled out. We brought a temperpedic pad for the pull out couch and it slept very well. Location is 5 miles from downtown Guntersville and 30 miles from Huntsville.
Only drawbacks I can say is that the Owner stated he would provide firewood. We burned through all of the firewood he brought in one night and had to buy our own for the next two nights.
There were only two trashbags in the house so we ran out of those pretty quick also. Other items like Ziploc bags and Laundry Detergent were not found.
Wonderful home for family gathering. We enjoyed the patio that extended the full length of the house with sliding glass doors opening from every room. A nice view of the lake, pier and boathouse. The yard was very well kept and the outdoor fireplace was quite cozy in the evening for a nice marshmallow roast! Even though the house is a little dated, it was neat, clean and had a unique design that gave plenty of room. The owner was very easy to work with and answered our questions and refunded our damage deposit timely. We are thankful for a wonderful weekend and hope to visit again sometime.
Location, location, location and it doesn't get much better than this. This is the fourth house we have rented on the lake and is without doubt the best in terms of accommodation, facilities and location. Travelling from the UK we shared the house with friends from Virginia, with our family day visiting from Huntsville. As such, there were usually between 8 and 12 for lunch, which the house catered for no problem; plenty of pots, pans and utensils - and the best array of knives ever (although never found a potato peeler). The trees on the lawn mean that there is always a shady spot to set up camp for lunch, which affords a bit more of a breeze.
We enjoyed daily fly fishing off the pier for Blue Gills (too hot to go out after the big stuff) and Bocce Ball (Boule/Petang) on the lawn, (an excellent course, Britain current champions), I took the canoe out around the island (others were too chilled), enjoyed safe swimming in the lake of the pier, we also managed one round of golf at Guntersville State Park; Millionaire's Golf for a few dollars - you guys are so lucky! We managed a few excursions to: St Bernard Abbey, Cullman County, to see Brother Joseph's Grotto - fascinating, look out for Leo continuing the work he's fascinating, then to The Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Mother Angelic's vision - a very special place, religious or not. We also revisited The Botanical Gardens in Huntsville and The Rocket Centre, chat to the guides in white coats, well worth it. As we enjoyed Lakeside Point so much, we had all of our meals there, so can't report on local restaurants.
We would certainly like to return and are already looking at dates, of course WiFi would be nice, as would another vest for the canoe - and a potato peeler, but then everyone needs something to complain about.
What a wonderful time we had at Lakeside Point in Guntersville! We loved that the property sits at the end of a street, on a peninsula with water frontage on three sides. It was also very convenient to restaurants and grocery stores. The house is spacious and clean, with a wonderful flat back yard and patio with fireplace. We enjoyed the pier and ease of access to the water. We had kayaks with us and they were easy to get into and out of the water. We took our 9 year old Weimaraner with us and he enjoyed the flat yard too. I plan to make this vacation rental a yearly tradition and would recommend it to anyone wanting a great lake rental with flat yard that is pet friendly.
We stayed the week to do some fishing and enjoy the lake. House was great, loved location and accommodations. Called the owner once due to needing power at the dock. He came immeadiately and took care of everything. Could not ask for better people or place. Will be returning for our next vacation.
My family enjoyed our stay at Lakeside Point. We were looking for something private and quiet, and we found it here. I believe we would stay here again. This property has a very private shoreline since it sits on a peninsula. Even the opposite shoreline is the barely inhabited north side of Buck Island. Across the inlet is a small craft airport and a sailing club, which was interesting for all of us.
This home is not focused around a TV set (although there's a large one in the den), so we were steered toward enjoying the scenery from the huge patio area and the pier. We took turns in pairs taking the canoe out to explore the adjacent shorelines and the waters around "No Man's Islands." The backyard was clean and fun to play in. Our autumn stay included one stormy day and three cool sunny days, but we didn't do any swimming. Some of my children waded in the shallow area. There are water weeds in this area, but they didn't bother us in the canoe.
The house was clean and in good working order, although the decor was a bit dated (we didn't mind a bit). The architecture of this home is unique. It took us about a day to get used to the circular kitchen/living room pathways. There were enough bath towels for our large family, but I did need to import some more kitchen towels. The dishes were satisfactory, but I used my own pots and pans, so I can't comment on them. Several "family night" games were also provided.
The owners were cooperative in answering our questions (and returning an item left behind), although it did take several days to get an email answer. My phone calls were received promptly. The VRBO listing did not mention the cleaning fee nor the deposit (as of this review date), so be sure to ask for an updated invoice when you make a reservation. The security deposit was refunded in a timely manner.
The area near this lake house is quiet. Each time we ventured off in a new direction to explore the community, we caught a beautiful view of the lake. We didn't do much shopping except for Walmart (10 miles) and Mike's Merchandise (6 miles; you'll find everything including the kitchen sink). The state park is across the main channel, and you can see "No Man's Island #2" from the lodge balcony.
