Words cannot describe how fabulous this house is!! It is a great place for a group of friends or a group of couples. The beds and sheets were more comfortable than a hotel, there is a great living space, and a coi pond! The view is fantastic, even better from the hot tub, which was absolutely lovely, or pool, which i can imagine is great in the summer. One thing that isn't mentioned in the description is how well stocked and equipped the house is - making it perfect for a short stay. The owners have two refrigerators, platters, spices, salt & peppers, paper towels, new york times on the weekend, and even robes for each guest (!!!), making it very convenient and minimizing the amount you have to spend on things you always overbuy when staying at a house for the weekend. Viola and Jim meet you to check in and walk you through all the nuances of the house, show you where everything is, and make you feel completely at home. They were very kind and helpful, sending a welcome packet when we first put our deposit down.
The location is great, 20 minutes from downtown Healdsberg and close to the great Dry Creek General Store (you have to go for a sandwich). We did a cooking class at Relish downtown, which run by Donna; it was a great way to sample the local cuisine and wines, especially for a large group.
Honestly, we had such a great time; counting down the minutes to rent this house again!
OUR LONG WEEKEND STAY AT THIS PROPERTY WAS PERFECTION PLUS! OUR FAMILY OF 15 SPENT 4 GLORIOUS DAYS AND NIGHTS AT VIOLA'S PARADISE! SEVERAL OF THE FAMILY RAN THE HALF MARATHON IN HEALDSBURG AND OUR LOCATION, OUR PROXIMITY TO THE TOWN, THE ABSOLUTE ANTICIPATION OF ALL OUR FAMILY NEEDS WERE MET AND EXCEEDED HERE. WE PLAN TO RETURN SOON AND OFTEN. A TRUE 5 STAR EXPERIENCE. THANK YOU, VIOLA, FOR MAKING US FEEL SO VERY WELCOME AT YOUR PALATIAL ESTATE.
Several of us stayed for 5 days at Viola's fabulous house for a landmark birthday celebration. We quickly recommended this house to many of our friends and could not say enough about how wonderful it is. We were so well taken care of ahead of time, at check in and during our stay. I am sure other reviews say this, but it is worth saying again -the pictures don't do it justice. If you looking for a place to relax and connect with friends/family, this is it. There was ample communal space and plenty of private space too. We cooked amazing meals, drank wonderful wine and relaxed. I wish I was still there!
We had an amazing week in Healdsburg. We had three generations from around the world and the house was perfect for everyone in the group. The pool was huge and a major attraction for the kids. The main house was open and a perfect place for everyone to gather at night. All the bedding, towels, kitchen equipment was very well done. We all would be very happy to come back next year for another reunion.
Words cannot begin to describe the charm of House Healdsburg. If you've ever spearheaded a family vacation, you know how difficult it is to please everyone. My entire nit-picky family raved about this property and the responsive, accommodating hosts. The owners have achieved that rare balance of showcasing their eclectic personal collections and art in both the main house and the guest house without cluttering. "Classy" is the word that comes to mind at every juncture. Each room is uniquely inviting, iconic and comfortable. Step into a stone-tiled double-headed shower and dry off with lush towels and spa bathrobes. Wake up in the middle of the night? A European style kitchenette in the center of the guest house offers repasts of bottled water, teas, micro-wave and refrigerator. Teenagers? Deposit them in the back room where they can pull the blinds so the sun never shines then happily appear poolside late afternoon. All of your needs are anticipated, from an extra tooth brush and toothpaste kit to pots, pans, utensils, condiments and pie tins to pool toys and hula hoops.
Although downtown Healdsburg is foodie heaven and abounds with fantastic restaurants. we became increasingly reluctant to leave this beautiful, well-appointed setting. Several nights we grilled gorgeous meat and fish from nearby Big John's Market and ate outside on the terrace under the stars.
Wineries? So many, so near. Yet so hard to leave the premises.
Which brings me to the grounds. Expansive, lush and well-tended. Gurgling creek. Ivy bordered steps to the pool. Beautifully tiled pool and hot tub ensconced in grass and framed with padded lounge chairs. Scents of fruit trees and flowers wafting through the air.
Swimming was a highlight for the kids, of course, but so much more to do right on the premises. Pick a fragrant bouquet from the rose garden with the clippers and basket so thoughtfully provided. Snip fresh mint and muddle it for sun-set mojitos with the panoramic view from the stone-terraced deck. Feed the coi as you cross the bridge from guest house to main. Jog down the windy road past wineries, sunflowers and vineyards. My father even looked forward to the daily routine of retrieving the New York Times from the mail box at the bottom of the hill. A charming journey in itself.
The down side of staying at House Healdsburg? You'll never want to leave. Poetry might do this haven justice. I cannot.
Our family (ages 16 to 80) spent 5 days at this fabulous home situated against the hills in the Sonoma Valley. It was spectacular!
The house was fitted out with absolutely everything you could possible want- coolers, robes, towels, candles, board games, a well stocked kitchen, beautiful bedding and all the luxuries of home. We cooked large dinners for 10 people, drank wine and chatted for hours on the huge outside deck overtop of the pool and hot tub. The teenagers lounged by the pool, my dad read the New York Times (complimentary on the weekends) and we road bikes to surrounding vineyards.
The location is outstanding, the garden is spectacular and the house is very much a home you feel instantly comfortable in!
Thank you for creating such a special place for us all to getaway from it all!!
