Le Cantou is set in a beautiful 16 century stone town-house. Located on the second floor, this apartment offers you the chance to enjoy the area of Sarlat by foot and by car. This beautiful apartment itself is bright and airy with high ceilings. The bedroom is located in a cosy alcove and has a very comfortable double bed, two bedside tables, lamps and a chest of drawers. The living/dining area ' centre piece' is a beautiful stone fireplace. Located in the living area are two armchairs, two foot-stalls and a coffee table. In the dining area there is a table and 4 chairs for the wonderful meals you can cook from market produce. The kitchen is located in another alcove and is equipped with a fridge with an ice box compartment, oven and hob, washing machine and coffee machine. As you leave the apartment you step right into the main square of medieval Sarlat, along with its cobbled streets, little shops, restaurants, superb market and art galleries.

It houses the most magnificent and interesting sites of the Palaeolithic era in Europe with troglodyte shelters and caves, the most famous being Lascaux , cave paintings of 15,000-year-old galloping horses, reindeer, bison, and ibex. Although the original is now closed Lascaux 2 is equally interesting, also Font de Gaume is worth a visit.
From fairytale Château Milandes, to the flamboyant Hautefort and fortresses like Castlenaud to Bastides, like Domme & Belves, also pretty villages set into the cliff faces – La Roque Gageac and Beynac. also the fabulous gardens of Eyirgnac and Marqueyssac , giving you plenty of sites to see, whether by car, bike, foot , canoe or Balloon you will experience a holiday of memories.

The Dordogne enjoys a more settled weather pattern than UK or Ireland, although it does have rain enriching the region with green fields in the winter months. It has a varied temperature, starting off cool in the mornings and heating up as the day goes along…layers are the best clothing to bring. In the summer-time the average temperature is around 30 ‘C..
The nearest airport is Bergerac, with airlines Ryan air and Flybe.
The new Brive Airport has flights from London with CityJet. Slightly further away you can get flights into Limoges, Toulouse, Bordeaux and Rodez..
From Calais the car journey is around 10 hours.
There is a train service from Paris to Bordeaux, then change to Sarlat. There is also a service from Paris to Souillac, then a shuttle bus to Sarlat.
In Sarlat there are car hire services such as Europcar, which is in walking distance from Sarlat train station.
Sarlat has been described as 'the jewel in the crown' with its medieval centre restored to its 17th century magnificence with such perfection that it is lit at night by gas lamps and is the set for a myriad of French movies. There are numerous 'plus beaux villages de France' in the area including Beynac. La Roque-Gageac, St-Leon-sur-Vezere, Domme, and Belves and the town markets are some of the finest in France, with many designated as 'marches de France.' .
The natural beauty of the area can be explored on the many well marked hiking and bike trails or by renting kayaks or canoes all along the Dordogne and Vezere rivers.
