Overview

Sarlat la Caneda Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Light and airy apartment in medieval stone town-house

Le Cantou is set in a beautiful 16 century stone town-house. Located on the second floor, this apartment offers you the chance to enjoy the area of Sarlat by foot and by car. This beautiful apartment itself is bright and airy with high ceilings. The bedroom is located in a cosy alcove and has a very comfortable double bed, two bedside tables, lamps and a chest of drawers. The living/dining area ' centre piece' is a beautiful stone fireplace. Located in the living area are two armchairs, two foot-stalls and a coffee table. In the dining area there is a table and 4 chairs for the wonderful meals you can cook from market produce. The kitchen is located in another alcove and is equipped with a fridge with an ice box compartment, oven and hob, washing machine and coffee machine. As you leave the apartment you step right into the main square of medieval Sarlat, along with its cobbled streets, little shops, restaurants, superb market and art galleries.

Things to do:: The Dordogne region provides an fascinating array of sites and activities

It houses the most magnificent and interesting sites of the Palaeolithic era in Europe with troglodyte shelters and caves, the most famous being Lascaux , cave paintings of 15,000-year-old galloping horses, reindeer, bison, and ibex. Although the original is now closed Lascaux 2 is equally interesting, also Font de Gaume is worth a visit.

From fairytale Château Milandes, to the flamboyant Hautefort and fortresses like Castlenaud to Bastides, like Domme & Belves, also pretty villages set into the cliff faces – La Roque Gageac and Beynac. also the fabulous gardens of Eyirgnac and Marqueyssac , giving you plenty of sites to see, whether by car, bike, foot , canoe or Balloon you will experience a holiday of memories.

Restaurants, cafes and markets are a speciality..In this region you will find Duck everywhere on the menu. Among the markets which have an array of fresh produce you will find:

Truffles, foie gras, wild mushrooms like cepes, girolles and morels, also walnuts, confits (meats preserved in fat) and fine country meats, chestnuts, strawberries, wines, liquors and brandies…and of course the famous cheeses..

So after your hectic day of sightseeing, relax in the centre of Sarlat, watch the world go by knowing you are only a few minutes walk from your apartment 'Le Cantou'

The Dordogne enjoys a more settled weather pattern than UK or Ireland, although it does have rain enriching the region with green fields in the winter months. It has a varied temperature, starting off cool in the mornings and heating up as the day goes along…layers are the best clothing to bring. In the summer-time the average temperature is around 30 ‘C..

The nearest airport is Bergerac, with airlines Ryan air and Flybe.

The new Brive Airport has flights from London with CityJet. Slightly further away you can get flights into Limoges, Toulouse, Bordeaux and Rodez..

From Calais the car journey is around 10 hours.

There is a train service from Paris to Bordeaux, then change to Sarlat. There is also a service from Paris to Souillac, then a shuttle bus to Sarlat.

In Sarlat there are car hire services such as Europcar, which is in walking distance from Sarlat train station.

Stylish, comfortable hideaway in beautiful Sarlat

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have just come back from a property search trip and spent 4 idyllic evenings (including a whole Sunday ), in this lovely, cosy appartement bang in the middle of the lovely town of Sarlat. It was warm, stylish and comfortable with everything we needed for our short stay. Emmanuel, the owner was very helpful, we couldn't have asked for more! We wish we could find an excuse to book a return visit - delightful.....

Perfect spot for exploring the Dordogne

  • 5 of 5

Lovely apartment in the center of Sarlat. The perfect base for exploring the Dordogne. Sarlat is beautiful with plenty of shopping and restaurants in the town and nearby. We dined all around Sarlat, especially enjoying Jardin d'Harmonie.

Even though we were in the pedestrian area of Sarlat, there was convenient parking nearby and we never had a problem getting a spot.

We loved the area, a car is absolutely necessary. We loved Roque Gageac, Brantome, Rocamadour and Gouffre de Padirac. This area could keep you busy for weeks. We even ventured out to St. Emilion and Bordeaux.

The listing is very accurate regarding the location, layout and facilities.

We would definitely stay here again.

Hidden Gem in medieval Sarlat

  • 5 of 5

This is such an amazing hidden gem in the centre of the historic medieval town of Sarlat. The property is situated in a fantastic location and so well placed for a stroll around the centre , to try the various restaurants and cafes and great shopping. The owner is a very friendly person and has taken every step to keep the apartment well laid out and stocked with all the essential things required for the stay. We loved every detail about this apartment, right from the stone spiral staircase to lovely stone and oak beams all around the place. Its been very nicely and tastefully decorated and an ideal stop for a short break in Sarlat.

Would definitely recommend this to people who are looking to stay in central Sarlat right in front of everything by the door step. The wed and Sat markets are amazing..dont miss it..

We had a great holiday and want to go back soon. Thank u!! Emmanuel for everything and for making our trip a memorable one

Perfect Place for Two

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is very charming. It's perfectly renovated to create a very comfortable lodging while preserving the medieval feel. The kitchen is just big enough and well equiped and it has a WASHING MACHINE. The shower room (the toilet is right next door)is large and very attractive and convenient, lots of space to store toiletries. There's a flat screen tv in a large sitting area, more than enough closet space. The bedroom, down two steps, is cosy with a big, comfortable bed, dual night stands with reading lamps, and more drawer space.

The apartment is located just off the main square, up a spiral stone staircase. It is very bright and has windows that open to a court yard and the passage way. Everything was very clean.

I can't say enough good about the place. We felt like it was home after a week and were sad to leave.

Right in the middle of Sarlat this little place is very charming and exceeds all your expectations. My wife and I stayed for three nights and can't imagine a better spot for the few days we were there.

Sarlat has been described as 'the jewel in the crown' with its medieval centre restored to its 17th century magnificence with such perfection that it is lit at night by gas lamps and is the set for a myriad of French movies. There are numerous 'plus beaux villages de France' in the area including Beynac. La Roque-Gageac, St-Leon-sur-Vezere, Domme, and Belves and the town markets are some of the finest in France, with many designated as 'marches de France.' .

The natural beauty of the area can be explored on the many well marked hiking and bike trails or by renting kayaks or canoes all along the Dordogne and Vezere rivers. A trip to buy groceries along the country lanes through the forest, over the hills and along the rivers is a treat in itself. With your apartment tucked into a charming medieval alley off the main square you can avail of the superb market, restaurants, cafes and shops.

Other Activities: Canoe/kayak, Ballooning, rock climbing, caving

Notes:
Le Cantou is set in a medieval town house in the centre of historical Sarlat. Unfortunately there is no parking in the historical centre, but there is free parking 200 metres away. The apartment is on the second floor of a stone spiral staircase, and has a lovely view of the courtyard below and the roof tops above. The apartment has 3 huge windows and a fan so plenty of ventilation. The Tourist office is 2 minutes walk away from the apartment..where you can browse through the delights that the region has to offer. During the summer months, Sarlat is bustling with festivals of music, theatre and the street theatre, and of course not forgetting the Film Festival in November, the truffle festival in january, the duck festival in february ......
