LUXURIOUS HOME W/ POOL & VIEW

La Jolla House Rental Photos and Description

5 Bdrm w/ Pool & View, Great Location!!!

We purchased this custom craftsman (“arts and crafts” style) home in May 2013, because we loved its unique character, serene feel, and unobstructed eastern view. We have furnished it with top quality pieces and every amenity, paying close attention to details.

Outdoor Area

The outdoor space features a solar heated pool with a cascading water feature and a large jacuzzi with amazingly powerful jets. There is a custom, built-in gas BBQ with a granite counter. We have a huge dining table with seating for 10, plus additional seating in a love seat, comfy chairs, lounge chairs, and hammock. The outside gas fire pit is perfect for smores. On the side of the yard are various fruit trees, including lemon, guava, clementine and kumquat. The unobstructed view stretches past the Cuyamaca Mountains to the desert.

Indoor Living Spaces

This property is unique in that it offers many living spaces, including two living/family rooms, a game room, a bedroom/living room, and seating at the kitchen island. All living spaces are tastefully decorated with solid wood, hand crafted 'arts and crafts' style pieces. All rooms (including bedrooms) have fabulous lighting, with dimmers so that you can adjust the light for the perfect atmosphere. The abundance of living spaces is a wonderful feature for extended family vacations, as the entire family will be able to spend time together, yet can also break into smaller groups in different spaces.

There are two separate living rooms, each with its own stone fireplace. One living room (the “Great Room”) has wood flooring, a high vaulted ceiling, a great leather U-shaped sectional, Noguchi glass coffee table, huge flat screen TV, solid cherry dining table with seating for 12 and caucasian rug. The other living room is smaller, with new carpeting, a microfiber couch, two leather chairs, and wood coffee table. The game room has a tournament sized (9’) pool table and a foosball table. The fifth bedroom is set up with a flat screen TV and a day bed that converts to a king bed, such that this room can be used as a bedroom and/or a living space. The large kitchen is equipped for a chef and is perfect for entertaining. It has custom cabinetry, granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. The stove includes not only four gas burners but also an indoor grill. Your chef will appreciate the Cuisinart food processor, Kitchen Aid mixer, real knives, pot filler, second bar area with sink, etc. To accommodate our family’s habit of spending time in the kitchen, we have comfortable leather counter-height chairs positioned on the bar side of the huge kitchen island.

Bedrooms

This is a five bedroom home. We want our guests to sleep well, and do our best provide the ideal sleep environment. We have both light weight summer duvets and warm hungarian goose down duvets. We have over three dozen pillows in the house, from soft to firm, including goose down pillows. We even have a full body pillow. Sheets and duvet covers are at least 400 thread count Egyptian cotton.

Three of the bedrooms are upstairs; two are downstairs. The upstairs bedrooms have high vaulted ceilings and huge windows on two or three walls. This ensures tremendous natural lighting and a fabulous cross breeze.

The master bedroom is huge, 27’ long, with a view over the pool, past the mountains and to the desert. It features a king sized bed, flatscreen TV, and two seating areas, one with a Corbusier pony lounge chair, the other with Wassily black leather chairs and a gorgeous thick glass coffee table. The master bedroom has its own private bath, with jacuzzi tub, granite counters and two sinks, and separate toilet area. The walk-in closet is big enough for a bed, and has two air mattresses.

One of the upstairs bedrooms is furnished as a children’s room, with a twin over full bunk bed and small red sofa. There is no TV in the children’s room. The children's bedroom has a view to the front of the house, overlooking the water feature in the front yard. The other upstairs bedroom has a queen bed, a flatscreen TV, and a unobstructed easterly view over the pool.

Downstairs, there are two bedrooms. The front bedroom has built-in cabinets, and a cozy window window seat with fabulous cushions and pillows. Behind the queen bed, there is a custom designed, hand made head board that is nearly 8’ high. This front bedroom has a view of the water feature in the front of the house. The second downstairs bedroom backs onto the pool area, and has french doors that open onto the pool area. For a cross breeze, it also has a large window to the right of the bed. It has a daybed that converts to a king and a flatscreen TV.

Amenities

The house has a variety of amenities, incl. solar heated pool, jacuzzi, outdoor gas BBQ, gas fire pit, two cascading water features, decent sized backyard, outdoor seating for 18, hammock chair, pool table, foosball table, many flatscreen TVs with cable and wifi, free wifi, tons of books (children’s books, cook books, novels, biographies, etc.), board games, children’s toys, doll’s crib and blanket, and beach toys (surf board, boogie boards, sand toys, etc.) We hope to have everything that you may want in a vacation home.

Laura, Thanks so much for everything. We have rented homes nine times through VRBO and your house was the best so far!! The pool area was key!! Between the fire pit, jacuzzi, pool, BBQ and games, all three generations were happy and together. Really appreciated your activity recommendations and groupon links. My 92 year old mother had a blast paddleboarding with the little ones!! Thanks so much for everything.

We purchased this home in May 2013. We have three children, including a high school senior honors student who works part-time at a day care facility and babysits.

Laura Colban purchased this house in 2013

I find serenity at this home. When it is vacant, it is my refuge. After a lousy day (if we have no guests), I go over and sit by the pool and listen to the waterfall. It helps me find peace.

This is a gorgeous home with incredible character. American Craftsman (aka, 'arts and crafts') home, with stained glass windows, period lighting, etc. The house has a very serene, peaceful feel to it. Built in 1972, but renovated over the last few years. We have tremendous pride of ownership, and it shows in the designer furniture

WONDERFUL TIME WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS IN LA JOLLA, CALIFORNIA

  • 5 of 5
Had a wonderful stay with our family and extended family at this beautiful home. The location is perfect with the beaches and shops of La Jolla and Pacific Beach close by. The house is fully equipped with everything you'll need from a gourmet kitchen to beach towels. We loved relaxing by the pool and spa after a long day exploring the city and beaches. The kids enjoyed the pool table and foosball table and loved the swimming pool. The owners were a pleasure to work with and we're looking forward to coming back and spending more time here.

SUPERB PROPERTY - LOVED OUR STAY!

  • 5 of 5
Thank you for a great stay. It is a wonderful house - attractive, well appointed, spacious and with amazing views. The pool, jacuzzi and games room were particularly welcome. The owner was also very responsive when any concerns arose.

The only minor niggles with the house were:
a) the low level of lighting in some rooms
b) the level of noise from the interstate (some way below the house) - though you kind of get used to it
c) the lack of instructions for equipment in the house and information on the local area e.g. recommended supermarkets and restaurants.

The booking process was, unfortunately, rather stressful for us. When our payment was delayed by the banks we felt somewhat pressured and mistrusted until our payment had gone through. After that things were fine.

Sorry about the stress with the payment. Some people book and never pay; others claim to have paid and then ask for a refund via Western Union. When a payment from a foreign bank is delayed for over two weeks, I get nervous. Turning away perspective renters while awaiting payment for that long is stressful. Sorry I shoved that stress on to you.
Thanks for the other feedback.
With the lighting, I contacted this renter to find out which rooms he was referring to. He said "All of them." I asked if the dimmers were up or down, and he didn't know there were dimmers. All of the rooms currently have both ceiling lights and either floor lamps or table lamps. The ceiling lights have dimmers, and when they are on low, they are very low. But they get quite bright on high.
I have put together an info sheet, which I am now sending out to all renters before they arrive. Thanks for the idea.
A couple months ago, we removed one tree and trimmed some bushes, which had been blocking the road. This may have temporarily increased the noise level a bit. We also installed over a dozen trees on the hill, as well as some bushes. We hope that by the end of the summer, as the new trees and plants mature, the road noise will no longer reach pool area. In the meanwhile, it seems most guests either don't notice the noise or aren't bothered by it. I'm glad that it didn't bother you.

GOOD STAY

  • 5 of 5
Great house for family. You have to drive to get to anything, so no walking to the beach, etc. but, we knew that ahead of time, so we weren't disappointed. Plus, everything of interest to us was within a short 10 minute drive. Plenty of space to spread out if you have a big family. Very clean. Owner is responsive. Was a little concerned about noise at night from the interstate after reading some reviews, but we barely noticed, and it didn't affect us. Would stay here again if in the area on vacation.

GREAT FAMILY EXPERIENCE!

  • 5 of 5
We rented this property for our family vacation. There were 10 in total ranging in age from 1-63. The location of the house was perfect as every day we were out experiencing all of what Southern California has to offer. Close to grocery stores, drug stores, restaurants, shopping and access to the free way. You can hear the I5 from the back, but it is not over powering. The pool and hot tub were fantastic and used daily. The games room was a BIG draw to everyone in our family. We loved cooking in the kitchen, which was very clean and well stocked with what we needed. All of the bedrooms were roomy and very comfortable. The living room was very nice and quiet and brought in the lovely afternoon sunshine. The large family room/dining room was perfect for our meals and general play time. The four kids really enjoyed the selection of books and toys. Our interactions with the owners were great and they were quick to respond to any questions or concerns we had. We would definitely stay here again!

PERFECT FAMILY RETREAT

  • 5 of 5
This house was great. My family absolutely loved it. It is on a quite street, so if you have young children that still nap, it's perfect for that. The outdoor space was amazing, I come from a family that is outside all the time, and many of our nights here were spent outside in the hot tub and around the fire pit. There is plenty of seating outside, and inside for dinners. We had one elderly relative with us who stayed in the back room on the first floor, just off the kitchen. It was close to the bathroom, which was perfect for her, and there were no stairs in and out of her room. The den area is large, with a good tv, and channels. The couch sits many people, which we utilized to play board games and such. The pool table is really nice quality, and since I have a competitive family, it definitely saw some action. You have to drive to restaurants and the beach, but it is a good sacrifice for some peace and quite when you are with your family. If you want a party place, this is not it, it is in a obvious family neighborhood, there is a large hill down the back, and it is a nice home, with some upscale accommodations. The pool was a little to cold to swim in, but in January that is to be expected. It wasn't warm enough outside during the week we were there to swim anyway, so not too big of a problem. There is a gas fireplace in the living room that does a great job of warming up the main area of the house. We had the windows open most of the time, so it would get a little chilly just as the sun went down, before we would get them closed. My aunt loved sitting in the rocking chair next to it. There are plenty of towels and beach towels, as well as quality laundry appliances if you need to wash anything. The kitchen was great, I don't think we went out for more than one meal, because anything we would need to prepare food was available. There is also a wet bar sink on the opposite side of the kitchen near where you would make any drinks. Also, my family and I are active and some of us bike often, the main road (Soledad Mountain Road) has a great bike lane the whole way up, and the run to the top of the mountain is great, and has amazing views. All and all, it was a great stay.

As you mention, you were here during a cold spell. The solar heater only works when the sun is out, and, unfortunately, the sun was not out as much as usual. My children are always thrilled to be in the pool, all year. Not me. With the weather you had, my outdoor water experiences would have been limited to the jacuzzi.
Thanks again. Hope to have you back next year.

BEAUTIFUL HOUSE IN A GREAT LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
This house was a nice place to enjoy our La Jolla vacation (12 people from babies to boomers). The area was close to everything and the house was very well furnished and comfortable. The internet connection and electronics worked well. The pool and foosball tables and the jacuzzi were heavily used. The price was also very reasonable for the area.
