Relax in this delightful, furnished cottage with large balcony and grassy area for children to play. Two very comfortable Queen beds, and a bunk bed. Rooms are cozy with air conditioning, and kitchen is well lit and spacious. Lawn furniture and barbecue for outdoor grilling. Quiet ambiance with birds, deer in the orchards, and wineries to walk to. My grandchildren love to feed the goats nearby, play volleyball at the park, eat ice-cream at the Cafe Museum, while mom and dad relax with a cappuccino. Playground and soccer field, and Marina very close for boating and mooring. Beaches are sectioned off with buoys for children to swim, and raft. Ski, hike, or bike in the pine tree area along the lake trails or the windy roads, Swim, fish, water ski, or kayak in the crystal clear water. It is beautifully calm most of the summer. Once in a while a Santa Anna wind arises and the excitement begins as the waves and white caps climb high. Enjoy the Gray Monk Winery, a short walk up the hill. It is a 5 star restaurant overlooking the lake with a spectacular view!! Arrow Leaf winery nearby has picnic tables for wine and cheese and a gorgeous view as well. These are some of our favorite places to go. Organic market in Kelowna and Winfield, are great places to explore. I hope you have caught some of the reasons why we enjoy Lake Country. Take the back road through the Glenmore district and you avoid all the traffic of Kelowna as you approach the country to relax.

Golf courses are everywhere. Miniature golf nearby, tennis, skateboard park, farmers market, and water park. Boat trailer space and room for vehicles.

You will love this sight!!

About Caron Smed

We love the Okanagan so much that we purchased this property with a guest country cottage on the property. This area reminds us of the Italian coastline and enjoys many fruit trees, wineries, lakes, and amusements nearby. Kelowna area is one of the most sought after travel destinations in the world.

We moved here full time last year and designed the gardens to provide fresh produce for our guests. We hope you will enjoy Kale, Swiss Chard, herbs like orange mint, sage, fennel, dill, parsley, and tomatoes. We also love to grow flowers so the property has a fruit salad apple tree (4 kinds), blueberry bushes, redbud, roses, and lavender and fragrant lilies. The Casablanca is my favourite.

this area is historic and adjacent to the property is an 800 year old fir tree which is antique and a heritage specimen. the neighbourhood has been around for 100 years and has a museum in the 'old school', cafe and old fruit packing building that is active cleaning and packing fruit. The paddle boats used to travel the Okanagan Lake with fruit from all the neighbouring towns and clean and pack and send out by railway before the Highway 97 was built.

For history buffs there is the book written on the beginnings of Carr's Landing and this area.

The city of Winfield celebrates each weekend in the summer music concerts in the parks in the area.

There is so much for kids to do at the Kangaroo Park, skate park, water park, farmers markets, Davidson Orchard and petting zoo, Oyama Zipline, and miniature golf, bumper cars, and race track and batting cages.

Golf is amazing here from Tower Ranch, Predator Ridge, The Quail, The Rise, to Kelowna springs just to name a few top notch challenges.

Swim, bike, walk the lake paths under the sweet smell of pine.

Rent a boat at Turtle Bay and explore Wood Lake and Kalmalka Lake, water ski, or park and have a beer at the pub near Vernon.

For bird watchers and animal lovers there are quail, owls, woodpeckers, deer galore.

See ya soon!

Caron Smed purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Caron Smed chose Kelowna

AFFORDABLE!!!!

SUMMER FUN:

We have a quiet neighborhood where you will be able to get a good nights sleep, then play golf and swim nearby. Visit the many wineries as close as a walk up the hill to Gray Monk and Arrowleaf. Sun bathing, clean refreshing water, walks along the 20 mile waterfront or bike challenges on the windy hills are all here for you to enjoy.

FRESH ORGANIC PRODUCE

This property is in a historic area from the early century.

There is a very special neighborhood and it is friendly. the beach is so delightful to sit and read by, go for a dip, or boat in. There are many places to explore right here.

We are still enjoying bike trails in the kettle valley where you ride on the train tressels with panoramic views below and the lakes from a distance.

We ski in the winter at Silver Star and it is spectacular. Cross country, snowshoe, and cliff climbing.

Food here is wonderful and tasty.

FRESH ORGANIC FARM EGGS

BLUEBERRIES ORGANIC

CHERRY TREES @ Walter Franks

PEACH TREES and other fruit at Wendells Orchard (Carrs Landing)

APRICOT Organic TREES @ Bryant FARMS (Hare Road)

and many more fruits at the markets both in Kelowna and Winfield.

Artisans are active here: painters, sculpture, ceramics, and more.

First week in Sept there are many artists gather in the town to display their art.

My husband and I grew up in Calgary, AB and we never experienced country living. We did not know what we were missing.

Great place to eat and explore many wineries. Gray Monk (walking distance), Arrowleaf Winery and outdoor picnic, and Naramata Bench for red wines. There are over 200 wineries within 1 hour of here and many offer restaurants.

What makes this cottage unique

We are lake people and used to own property at Sylvan Lake in Alberta. We love being close to the water. When we found this sight it reminded me of where I grew up as a kid on summer holidays at the family's cottage at Sylvan Lake. The water here is cleaner, larger, warmer climate and longer growing season. Tall pine trees reminiscent of Atlanta, GA in scent, height and stature. Everything grows here!! I have a fantastic garden.

Quaint, quiet, therapeutic, warm sunny days, beautiful countryside. Night stars and visits around the campfire, setting a table with Casablanca Lilies from my garden, roses, lavender, lilac.

Walking to the museum and cafe for a cup of coffee past an 800 year old tree in my back yard, in the back alley.

Walks in all seasons along the Lake Okanagan never becomes boring.

Picking fruit in season, baking cherry pies, homemade pickled asparagus.

My view from the front porch of the hill filled with apricot trees and deer.

Quail dusting their bodies in my front yard.

Birds visiting with their songs.

Concerts in the park.

Special events like birthdays. My neighbour just turned 100.

There were at least that number that came to the comma nitty centre up the road.

Yoga is taught there as well.

Kelowna offers ballroom dancing that I tried as well.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our kayaks on the lake and exploring. The water is so clean.

good location, great garden, small house

  • 4 of 5
The house is small (shower without any sink, no door between rooms) but, the garden is great (flowers, herbs, toys for kids...), the terrasse and BBQ are very nice and the location is amazing (5 mn from Okanagan lake, 5 mn from High way). Good for few days.

Cozy Cottage

  • 4 of 5
The cottage was basic but had everything our family of four needed. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was equipped for us to make meals. The garden was lovely. We were outside the hussle and bussle of Kelowna. We were close to wineries.

Great setting for our family getaway

  • 4 of 5
We had a nice time visiting the Okanagan. Spent 4 nights at the small cottage and it served our family well (2 adults, 2 small children). Enjoyed the water each day - indeed it is only a few steps to the lake. (although no view of it from the cottage). Made great use of all the toys on the site - 2 person inflatable boat, lifejackets, beach chairs, kids bike. We usually camp for this trip each year, but we all liked not having to pack so much "stuff" this time around! Only inaccuracy in the listing was there was no bodum-type coffee maker (we left ours at home). Also we needed to purchase a battery for the smoke alarm that was not working.

We visited Kelowna, the Kangaroo farm, the Jammery and H2O aquatic centre. Found a nice church service to attend at the high school in Winfield.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words and for choosing Okanagan Guest cottage. We are happy you and the children were able to make good use of the water toys to enhance your time in the Okanagan Lake. Thanks for your kindness and helpfulness in all aspects of tidiness. Hope you come again!!

Great Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5
My family had the pleasure of renting this cabin for 5 nights. The property owners, John and Caron, we very friendly, gracious and helpful with knowledge about the area and activities to do. The cabin is located in a very quiet neighborhood and we loved the close proximity to the beach. We recommend buying some water shoes as the beach is rocky- the kids enjoyed jumping into the lake and paddling around in the inflatable boats that we provided by the owners. It is only a short 20 min drive to the beach in downtown Kelowna and it is great to come back to the quiet cabin after a busy day. The cabin was clean and although it is small it suited our needs perfectly. The yard and deck were great for evening bbq's and for the kids to play in. We would only recommend that they provide a microwave. We would love to stay there again. Thank you Caron and John

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your stay at the Guest Cottage. We love to have visitors and know this is a treasured spot. We are especially encouraged to hear that the children had a fun time. We hope you will look us up next year when you plan your family vacation and get to see new sights that you might have missed this year.
We have been so blessed by all our visitors and cannot say enough about the friendliness, courtesy, kindness and thoughtfulness of our guests. It is another great season here in the Okanagan Lake at Okanagan Center. Did you know the Fir tree behind our property is 800 years old? That is a fact and it is preserved as a Heritage Tree. Learn more about this area which used to be where the fruit came in on the boats and was distributed to homes before the Hwy was built. These stories and many more are to be found at the Okanagan Museum and cafe steps away. The story of our cottage, "The Carter Family Home" was built in the early century. The only rooms that were added was the living room and master bedroom.
She raised her 2 girls in the Main cottage and worked hard as a janitor at the school, which is now the museum.

Cabin

  • 4 of 5
Our family's stay was good. The yard was great for the kids and they had access to toys they enjoyed. The beach was real close and beautiful. The cabin was cozy and clean, and was well equipped with everything you could need. The owners were real nice and helpful if we needed anything. The only thing was the cabin was so close to the owners house I was worried about noise and going into the hot tub to late ect. We enjoyed our stay and would return again

Great Cottage!

  • 5 of 5
My two young children and I enjoyed the cottage (and it's air conditioning) completely. It was clean, bright, and comfortable. We also enjoyed the friendly owners and comfortable atmosphere of the yard and the district. We could walk to local restaurants and could drive through vineyards and fruit orchards to buy groceries or go to a number of restaurants (although most of our meals were at the cottage).
We were very close to the lake in a quiet small town setting that was very relaxing 'between' the busy hubs of Vernon and Kelowna. We walked to the 2 beaches (gravel) and enjoyed swimming and paddling every day.
I would love to stay there again in the future!
