We have lived on the Gulf Islands for over 20 years. Both of us have lived most of our lives on one island or another! My family goes back 4 generations, and Chris' family 3 generations. We are definitely island folk! Love of food, wine and people have led us to opening our home to guests, and we have met some wonderful people!
Chris is an extraordinary cook; Sue loves baking; and we love entertaining. Very easy going; we hope we reflect the nature of Salt Spring residents.
Sue and Chris Coates purchased this studio in 1993
Visiting Salt Spring as a young woman, reminded me so much of where I grew up on the Saanich Peninsula; a quiet slow pace, removed from the hustle and bustle. When my son was born, I wanted him to have the same feeling of safety, and community that a rural surrounding affords. Our property is a couple minutes walk to the best swimming on the island, and not too far removed from the hub of Ganges.
My husband and I stayed with Sue and Chris in July 2014 for one weekend. The experience was most excellent! They are super hosts, home-made breakfasts were prepared lovingly by Sue each morning. We found out that Sue and Chris are both food and wine lovers so we all had a lot in common. Their room is perfect for a couple - we could come and go as we pleased without worrying about disturbing them. A short anecdote about them that illustrates their generosity - I forgot a few clothing items in the room after checking out and getting on our way back to the mainland (to Duncan). Chris hand-delieverd them to the farm that we were staying at in Duncan. They insisted that Chris had an appointment in Duncan - we'll never know if that was a "white lie," but we were caught speechless by this act of kindness. Chris connected with the owners of the farm (Fairburn Farmstead, in case anyone is curious...another fabulous stay) so hopefully, the trip was not for naught for them. Thanks again to both Sue and Chris. On a personal note - guys, we had our son 3 weeks ago. He is a dream! We hope to return to your corner of the world with little Jack in tow. Cheers, Alice and Bill
This is a wonderful place to stay on Salt Spring Island, a great location close to all.
It is quiet and private. The room is tastefully decorated and the host supplies everything that one would need for your stay. The breakfast was amazing, I honestly wished that I could move in permanently! I ordered egg coddlers as soon as I left her establishment. The host even made us home made bread! The banana muffins were like tasting fresh roasted bananas in a tin. Hosts are big foodies and can tell you about any where you want to go on Salt Spring Island... I would highly recommend their place, you will not want to leave!
Our hosts were friendly and helpful. They made us the most lovely breakfast being very attentive to our dietary needs. The room was nicely decorated and spacious. We enjoyed the pretty garden area for guests.
