About Mary Donnelly

I grew up in New York and came out to San Diego to attend college many (many) years ago and I haven't left yet. I love living in San Diego and I love my house. I spend my free time growing veggies and working on my historical house.

Mary Donnelly purchased this cabin in 1999

Why Mary Donnelly chose Hillcrest

I didn't plan on living in Hillcrest but when I saw the house I knew it was for me. I am a cook and although the kitchen is small it works perfect. This home suits me perfectly.

What makes this cabin unique

I love the neighborhood, the walking to everything lifestyle, hearing the zoo animals at night from my yard. The beautiful exotic flowers everywhere. Most of all the friendly people.

Perfect Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We rented Mary's cabin for a getaway in Mid-March. What an amazing place! We had such a great time in a perfect location that was well within walking distance to the zoo, parks, restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies, and shopping. We had a car and never had any issues with street parking and loved that San Diego's beaches were roughly 15 minutes away. The cabin is what was offered in the listing and much, much more. Looking back, there was nothing we could have asked for that would have made the stay better - the entire atmosphere was relaxing and very much our speed.

Waking up to the sound of birds; picking fresh lemons; enjoying my pasta with Mary's fresh basil.... We loved our stay in the cabin in the city. I didn't want to leave. The cabin felt like our home with everything you could need, especially in the kitchen. The thoughtful little things: a beach bag with towels and sunscreen; plastic silverware and plates for picnics; a curling iron; movies........ Thanks Mary. It was wonderful.

Truly wonderful escape

  • 5 of 5

This little cabin was everything pictured and more! It was a beautiful setting but right near everything you could want. Mary was wonderful. She made my stay extremely enjoyable and pointed out great walks, the sunday farmers market and many other nearby activities. I didn't have a car but was close enough to everything, and greatly enjoyed being able to walk to everything. The Wifi was strong and the backyard birding was great. This was truly a great retreat!

The best hostess!

  • 4 of 5

Even though we happened to come to San Diego during the worst cold, Mary did everything to make us comfortable. The location is perfect to explore the city, and the cabin is private, surrounded by great, exotic (for East Coasters) flora, with its own little terrace. The kitchen has everything you need and more, shower was great, reading materials and TV offered plenty to relax. The only drawback was the Murphy bed -- very comfortable but taking up most of the room. We traveled with only two carry-ons, which was good to navigate the stairs to the cabin and for the limited space within. We would recommend a stay here to get the feeling of the city away from hotels and tourists, easy walking and bus nearby.

Owner's Response: Margit, it was so great to have you both- you were both so nice to have. The room is small with the bed down- that is why we made it a murphy so you can just lift it and have the whole room freed up again.
