Beautiful, small, lakefront cottage modestly decorated in nautical theme, overlooking private sand and stone beach with lake frontage. The spectacular sunsets sold us on this home, and we enjoy the nearby area, too. Situated amongst other weekend get-away homes, this is a fabulous spot to relax on the deck overlooking the grassy hill leading down to the beach, watch the waves rolling in, the Great Lakes ships passing by on the horizon, the sun dappling the waves in the morning and setting so dramatically in the evening.
Our children love going into Geneva-on-the-Lake, with its 1950's shopping strip-lined with amusement halls, putt-putt golf, waterslides, shops, and restaurants. We enjoy visiting Geneva State Park with its lodge and marina, the wineries in the area, the beautiful covered bridges and great antique shops in Ashtabula Harbor, and incredible views as you drive along the lake. An hour to Erie, Pennsylvania, and an hour to downtown Cleveland, the area remains quiet and serene, not overly built and commercialized.
The home itself was updated in the past two or three years, and is comfortable. After a day of exploring, we can enjoy a full meal cooked in the ample kitchen (with full-size refrigerator and gas oven, plenty of kitchenware) while the kids pop in a video or DVD in the living room with fireplace (fold-out couch for one person sleeping) with a sliding glass door leading to the deck overlooking Lake Erie. There is an enclosed porch (with outdoor furniture) and sleeper sofa, also overlooking the lake.
The master bedroom features a king-size bed and plentiful storage in the dresser. The other bedroom features a bunkbed perfect for kids, with a twin-size bed on top, and a full-size mattress below, dresser storage, and a TV with VHS. There is also an attached one-car garage which we use to store firewood, lawncare equipment. It is not available to guests.
We love swimming in the summer, and awesome views of nature in the fall. We enjoy all the amenities of the area, including great golfing nearby, full service groceries in Geneva and Ashtabula. We know we will be spending the next few years just taking in all that the area has to offer from wineries to local theatre in Ashtabula, to covered bridge and grape festivals, to glorious lake views.
We have free wireless available, and a local calls only phone. There is no cable TV but plenty of dvds, videos and loads of cds from jazz to pop to classical. Beach access is shared with two other cottages with shared stairs down and across a private yard. It is a quiet, family friendly beach, great for sea glass and fossil hunting in the day and bonfires at night. You are welcome to bring your dog, if he or she is well-behaved! There is no air conditioning. we have found our ceiling fans do just fine on the lake.

A completely adorable cottage was the perfect place for my friends and I to spend a long weekend! The view was truly out-of-this-world, a crimson sunset, and super easy steps that lead you down to the beach. There is a great Italian restaurant right up the road, tons of great local independent wineries, and a retro-vintage Geneva-on-the-Lake for a fun night out. The house was totally clean with nautical decorations, and the furniture, while not completely perfect, did not take away from the incredible view and location, with lots of places to sit outside and enjoy the weather and water! You can't beat this place, it's such a gorgeous view of Lake Erie - I can't wait to return soon!
I had a great time in Saybrook. The house is very nice and homey. It is clean, which is appreciated. I love the view of the lake from the window! Overall, it's awesome! I would stay again for sure!
I agree with other reviewers that the cottage has a million dollar view and beautiful deck furniture but the comfort stops there! The beds were extremely uncomfortable and we both had backaches after a week of trying to sleep on a bad mattress. There is no comfortable furniture to sit on in the entire house - the couch sags and the two chairs are torn and uncomfortable. If the weather is bad, there are no table and chairs to sit at inside and eat or play cards or board games. For the price, there should be cable TV included! The kitchen cabinets were not very clean. From reading the other reviews, we thought this place would be wonderful but we were very disappointed.
Perfectly located, this clean and well equipped home had everything we needed. The kitchen was fully equipped, towels and linens, and plenty of entertainment for all ages.
There's no substitute for lake frontage and we had our coffees on the deck every morning enjoying the view had fun on the beach as well.
The home is close to a large section of wineries and historic sights, as well as some great dining. We will definitely be back!
Let me tell you, this place is a gem. Very well equipped and decorated to the nines. The deck outback over looks the lake which is maybe 100 yards down a set of stairs, the neighbors were very nice and the area is a quiet escape from the daily grind. Several fine restaurants are moments away and you have Geneva on the Lake a mere 4 miles or so to the West and Ashtabula about the same distance to the East. We found very nice beaches at both Ashtabula and Conneaut with very good free access. Many vineyards and covered bridges are within a short drive too.
The owner has a nice collection of music and video in cd, dvd and cassette. Two Jason Bourne movies and the Godfather trilogy made my day. LOL
The kitchen has just about everything you'll need except food and beverages. We had a wonderful time and plan on returning.
Had a great weekend, very relaxing and superb views. The house was sparkling clean when we arrived with fresh towels, sheets, and all of the essentials (such nice decorations, as well). Amazing deck, great patio furniture, with stairs leading to the shore. We were able to grill outside, and there's a great Italian restaurant at the top of the road that we tried when we didn't want to cook! We found lots of things to do in the area which was great. No complaints at all, we will absolutely return.
This area filled with activities; especially covered bridges, wine tours, cute little 1950 amusement park; wonderful fishing and Marina at Geneva State Park and Ashtabula rivers. The cottage is one hour from Cleveland so you can also get to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Severence Hall, the Cleveland Zoo and other attractions in the city if you so desire.
