Guestbook comments from the owner
My family and I had a fabulous vacation at this very unique compound, during our stay in July of 2012.
The house is elegant yet comfortable, light filled, and has the best of everything---we called it “old East Hampton clapboard charm meets European sophistication”. The living room is extremely capacious and great for entertaining—it has plentiful seating, lots of space for spreading out for drinks and hors’d’oeuvres, a centrally located fire-place, interesting artifacts and antiques collected in the owners extensive travels, and lots of reading matter—travel books, magazines, well-chosen fiction et al…and has a lovely porch for morning or afternoon reading over a cup of coffee or a drink. The master bedroom/bath suite is also luxurious but rusticated and appropriate to the setting, with a beautiful antique bust and period mirrors and a wonderful library of tempting books. All the other bedrooms are well appointed, comfortable and suitably in “country/elegant style”.The owner has managed to keep the charm of the old farmhouse kitchen while appointing it with modern appliances and tasteful serving ware. The kitchen table is trendy and metallic but the candles, rustic service pieces and antiques give it a quaintness and relaxed charm.
The Property is vast, private, and surrounded by old trees, and lots of carefully chosen plantings. The pool is heavenly and is a beautiful and subtle indigo. There is a rustic barn-frame enclosure under which one can read, relax, and contemplate the pool and property, while staying out of the sun or watching the kids while they swim. There are two smaller rustic/elegant cottages on the property, one with a Palladian window—both are chic and appointed with all new appliances and air conditioning—they are perfect for visitors, overflow family or teens who want privacy. The location is ideal, near town, easy to get on to Montauk highway, or out to Sag Harbor or 114, and there are restaurants and specialty food stores and farm stands in the immediate area
Our family had a great month. The owner was receptive to our needs and very helpful in suggesting restaurants and venues in the area. We would recommend this property to sophisticated travelers who want a very special retreat that is both casual and in the very height of taste, without being fussy. It is remarkably child-friendly, as it is not “precious” ---but just utterly perfect! We look forward to returning.
