Overview

Hilo House Rental Photos and Description

Vacation Property with on-site property manager

'Alani House sits on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and Honoli'i Beach is at the end of the block. With direct access to the black sand beach and lifeguards on duty, Honoli'i is one of the Big Island's favorite destinations for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and surfing. With a panoramic view of the ocean, you can watch whales and cruise ships from the front lanais. There are 3 lush waterfalls within easy walking distance from the house.

We are only 2.4 miles (about 3 to 4 minutes) from downtown Hilo along Hilo Bay and the Hamakua Coast. Driving to the airport takes only 10 to 12 minutes. Before you book anywhere else, ask if there's access in and out of the ocean with lifeguards to protect you and your family. Will you be located south of Hilo and possibly exposed to dust and vog in the Puna Distric, or will you enjoy the clear skies of the Hamakua Coast? And also ask whether you'll be drinking purified municipal water or catchment instead. 'Alani House provides all of these benefits, plus wireless connectivity via high-speed internet cable modem.

Places to see:

Driving south, downtown Hilo is only 4 minutes away. Another 4 to 7 minutes will get you to four additional swimming and snorkeling reefs. At about the same distance are Rainbow Falls, Kaumana Caves, Lyman Museum, Ocean Discovery Center, Pacific Tsunami Museum, 'Imiloa Astronomy Center, and the Queen Liliuokalani Gardens. Another surf break, called Pohoiki, located at the Isaac Hale Beach Park is about 45 minutes away. While there, you are within 2 miles of the Kapoho tide pools, Lava Trees State Park, and MacKenzie State Park. Within 50 minutes from 'Alani House, you can drive to the hiking entrance for flowing lava, or to Mauna Kea where you can view the North Star and the Southern Cross in the same night sky.

Driving north from 'Alani House, you will find a scenic drive within 5 minutes, and Akaka Falls about 25 minutes away. An additional 30 minutes will get you to the sacred valley of Waipi'o. You can descend into the valley, or just take photos from the breathtaking overlook.

For doctors:

Are you a visiting physician and need an extended stay? We have experience working with medical staffing companies. And consider this when choosing a location, Alae Point has several advantages over Hawaiian Paradise Parks. Alae Point is only 5 to 7 minutes from the hospital and there are 2 routes to get there. HPP has only one main road and it can take from 40 to 55 minutes depending upon traffic.

About Rory Foster

We are professionals who love and enjoy the unique beauty of each Hawai'ian Island.

Rory Foster purchased this house in 2011

Why Rory Foster chose Hilo

For us, the Big Island is one of the last havens for 'old Hawai'i.' We hope you will enjoy seeing the sea turtles (honu) and humpback whales (kohola) in their natural environment.

What makes this house unique

It is difficult to overstate the advantages of location. Parking at Honoli'i Beach can be extremely limited, and there are times when no parking is available. Staying at 'Alani House means that you don't have to worry about it.

Check-in is after 4:00PM, and check-out is 10:00AM

Excellent House

  • 5 of 5
Great time! Hiked, swam and snorkeled every day. Our boys really enjoyed surf lessons from Rory. The house is clean and my wife liked the kitchen. The owners were very quiet and respectful of our privacy. I definitely recommend this one.

Great vacation location

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at this great place which is located near Hilo and the pictures listed are accurate. The Owner was very accommodating and provided us detailed info on things to do and see during our stay. The home was immaculate, well furnished and maintained. It is a great location near Hilo and a very quiet and secure neighborhood. We walked to the black sand beach, watched the surfers, boogie boarded and swam in the rivers close by with waterfalls and even had a rope swing out over the river. Cruise ships entered by our place and we viewed them from the front porch with a perfect view of the harbor. We started our day with a cup of coffee sitting on the deck watching the sun rise. A short drive to Farmers Market, public beaches where we snorkeled and watched a huge sea turtle, city shopping areas and many sites to visit. The washer and dryer were great to have. Our group of 6 adults fit in very nice and we all agreed that it was a great place for our reunion of old friends and family. The National Volcano Park is a must see. The owner was on the property, but we very seldom seen or heard them, but were gracious in anything we ask of them. Aloha and Mahalo to Rory and Wren.

Convenient Location

  • 5 of 5
Beach park is an easy walk and on the same street. When we stayed, Rory and Rory were both there, but they were seldom seen. We let them open the house to let the ocean breeze blow during the daytime. Nice lanais. Grounds were well kept. House was clean! The air purifiers at night helped with the coqui noise. From what we could tell, coquis are everywhere on the windward side.

Very comfortable place with easy access to Hilo -- no traffic. It was only when we left the area that we would hit traffic. We got stuck near Pahoa. And we got stuck in traffic in Kona as well. We plan to come back here again. Great hosts and great location!

cheerful, light and bright home!

  • 5 of 5
This house was really easy to find, Its bright orange! It was ultra convenient to amazing beaches and the volcano. When I drove to the observatory on the mountain I shocked at how fast I arrived, as I was prepared to a much longer trek. There is really such diversity on the East side of the Big Island. The house was really cleaned and well maintained. Although there is no AC, it is really not needed because there are plenty of cool ocean breezes blowing through. The view of the ocean and bay was the best part, really relaxing. I definitely hope to stay here again.

Our stay in Hilo

  • 5 of 5
Our home had everything needed to make our stay very comfortable, from the amenities in the kitchen to the wonderful beds. After a long day it was a treat to return to this home.
Sitting on the porches to watch the sunrises and sunsets was incredible, with all the birds around and wonderful bright green lizards. The beach was a short walk as were the falls.
Only 2-3 miles from Hilo.

Great house, great location, great service!

  • 5 of 5
My family and I recently spent a week at this excellent vacation home and we loved every minute of it! It is very well maintained, spotlessly clean, exceptionally appointed, and conveniently located. The close proximity to Honolii beach offers the best surfing in the area and made for many life-long memories for our kids.

While our days were spent surfing, SUP'ing, visiting local waterfalls, going to volcano national park, eating poke at Suisan, and just relaxing on the local beaches, our nights were even more spectacular just lounging on the large lanai overlooking Hilo bay and watching .

One added benefit to renting this house that we really enjoyed is that there is an on-site caretaker that lives in the downstairs apartment. He is a young college student, very personable and friendly. He also sidelines as the on-site surf instructor (the best my kids have ever had, with rates unbeatable on the island!), concierge with great recommendations on where to go and what to see, and will even provide maid services if you would like.

All in all, a beautiful vacation at a beautiful house! We have already booked our return for after Christmas!
