Massanutten Cottage has three bedrooms and two full baths. Upstairs, there is a queen-size bed in one bedroom with a small futon couch (suitable for one small child). In the other upstairs bedroom is a full-size bed with a full-sized futon. The downstairs bedroom has a king that you are welcome to convert into two twin beds if that better suits you.
The cottage has a full kitchen and all the pans and utensils that you may require. A large combined dining and living area makes for a comfortable area for all to relax. The house is equipped with 3 cable televisions (living room, upstairs queen room, downstairs bedroom) and a DVD player (living room). We have 2 electric wood stoves (with flame effects). One is in the fireplace that adds to the ambiance and keeps the room toasty warm. The other is in the downstairs bedroom. We don't allow real fires in the fireplace anymore. The house is immaculate and very comfortable.
Our guests have truly enjoyed the use of our private HOT TUB!!!! A 4 person hot tub graces our back porch overlooking the woods. It is great for unwinding after a cold winter day or a day of hiking or biking. Please note that there are quiet hours posted for the hot tub, as we have full time neighbors.
We have had great feedback from our previous guests and enjoy opening our comfortable vacation home to others when we are not using it. We are able to be a little bit more choosy about our renters because of our reputation. We prefer renters that enjoy and respect the quiet neighborhood in which our house is located. We do not condone the use of our house for parties and raucous gatherings. We also prefer that our guests have no more than three cars in the driveway. We hope that you will enjoy the cottage as much as our family and repeat guests do.
Please bring your own linens or ask for rental of ours for an additional $50 (no laundering required).

We are the Brookmans. We have two grown children and a rising Kindergartener between us! All of us love our time at Massanutten, and we get there as often as possible. Our permanant home is across the mountain in Orange County, Virginia. We purchased our home in 2002 when we discovered what a jewel Massanutten Resort was. We had often skied there as a good local mountain, but when we discovered the mountain biking right on the property, we were sold on the place! In fact, we were riding in Colorado, and met a man who said his favorite place to ride was a little resort called Massanutten! We were floored, but we completely agreed. We bought the house with the intent to use it ourselves as much as possible. The decision to rent was and effort to offset some of the costs of the home. We are happy to continue to own it, rent it, and share it with our family and friends. We are constantly upgrading and updating as financing allows. Repeat renters often find many changes in between stays. Some of our more recent projects have been putting in new bamboo floors throughout the downstairs, repainting the kitchen cabinets, and remodeling the downstairs bathroom! We have many more projects on the horizon!
Amanda Brookman purchased this house in 2002
Our house is located just inside the gates of the resort. We love the location of the house because it is quick and easy to get in and out. We are about a mile from the water park and 3 miles to the ski area. The neighborhood is quiet with little traffic, and we are walking distance to some short trails, a fishing pond, and the playground.
We try to make the house very comfortable for our guests. Our beds have quality bedding, our kitchen has needed supplies, and our home is spotless. We also love sharing all the area has to offer as well. We give lots of advice to our guests about local activities. At the house we have a computer that has internet access and we also have wireless access for your own computer. We do our best to accommodate folks. Because most families like access to pools in the summer, we have purchased a guest pool pass that is good for admittance to the property owners' pool with a $5 per person fee (free for children under 5).
Our original reservation was to begin at 4:00 p.m. on a Friday and end on Sunday morning. We were told by the owner it was ok to arrive early as we had a change in work schedule. So, we arrived at 2:30 a.m. on Friday morning. It took until sunrise to warm the house. The house was well appointed and clean, just as it was advertised. Friday afternoon the owner appeared at the house "needing to come in." The female in our family was actually at the home alone while the family was skiing Friday afternoon. She wasn't comfortable allowing a male in the house, so communication was made through a locked door. It was a very strange thing indeed. Fast forward to Saturday morning at 7:00. am. The electricity went out completely. We contacted the owner and they offered to let us know when they heard it may be back on. There was a severe snow storm that had set in, and we had no back up heat. Had this home had a fireplace that was usable, packing our children in the car to leave wouldn't have even crossed our mind. We have a large family and we had no promise of keeping them warm through a winter storm. We ultimately decided to pack the family up a day early and head home. The roads were so bad, we had to stop at a hotel. When we let the owner know our plans, they replied, "go do something and then maybe it will be on later." The roads were treacherous. We were scared if we stayed we would have 4 suffering children in a very very cold house. No monetary supplement was offered by the owner. In fact, there was no response at all regarding being reimbursed for a day. Was the rental misrepresented? No. Were the owners a little strange about showing up during our stay and not trying to make financial amends about an early exit? YES.
We rented the Cozy Massanutten Cottage for a family get-away for the Thanksgiving holiday. We felt right at home from the moment we walked in the door: Comfortable furniture with cozy throw pillows and blankets; beds topped with fluffy pillows and plenty of blankets; two full bathrooms; and a well-appointed kitchen with everything we needed to cook and serve our Thanksgiving feast.
The hot tub was a hit, especially after six hours of travel. The Massanutten resort waterpark was open, so the kids headed there after dinner. Luckily, the cottage boasts a washer/dryer, so we could dry all of our suits and towels. The cottage has cable TV, Wi-Fi, and a very nice little collection of books. We did some walking around the neighborhood, which is very friendly, and very close to the resort entrance. For meals out, both Hank's Grill and the Thunderbird Cafe are a short car-ride away.
I would absolutely recommend this property for anyone looking to get away with family or a group of friends. It beats the hotel and condos hands-down. Can't wait to book our next trip!
This was a perfect little get a way after Thanksgiving for our family. Close to the waterpark, pool & slopes. I would highly recommend it and would definitely book again.
Our weekend stay at this house was fantastic. Everything was neat & clean. A great price and great atmosphere. Would definitely stay here again. No complaints at all. I can see why everyone gives 5 stars. This owner deserves it.
Awesome cottage! Perfect for a cozy weekend near the ski slopes! Just enough space to fit two families comfortably. The house had everything we needed and the owners were a joy to deal with! We will definitely return next year! A great find!
