Edwardian flat (1500 sq ft/full floor) in the heart of Cole Valley (beautiful weather).

My furnished home is move-in ready and offers a gourmet kitchen (Sub Zero refrigerator), washer/dryer, split bath (toilet in one room, with sink and tub/shower in another), hardwood floors, two-room see-through gas fireplace and a southern facing sunroom with a deck that overlooks my neighbor's amazing garden. The commercial corridor features everything you'll need: postal chase, pharmacy/drug store, liquor store, hair, spa and nail salons and all manner of specialty stores.

The neighborhood has lots of coffee houses (Reverie, Crepes on Cole)and a great patisserie (La Boulange).

There's a wonderful new mexican restaurant (Padrecito) in addition to sushi (Grandeho's Kamekyo), italian (Bambinos), french (Zazie) and american (burgermeister, kezar pub) fare.

About Nancy D

I am a mature, professional woman in my mid-50s. I have wonderful, respectful neighbors and am looking for people who are considerate of people and places on this earth -- especially my little piece of it.

My name is Nancy and I adore my home! My flat is in the middle of a three flat building -- James, the co-owner of the properly, lives in the garden unit and we rent the top floor to medical students.

My favorite room in the house is the sunroom (although my kitchen is a close second). The sunroom has great light throughout the day and overlooks a gorgeous garden. I enjoy biking to the beach and back (8 miles roundtrip and half is UP hill!) and/or hiking the nearby hills (twin peaks is located just to the south of me).

If you have ever dreamed of living in San Francisco and enjoying all that this very 'european city' has to offer, my home is a perfect choice.

Nancy D purchased this apartment in 1997

Why Nancy D chose Cole Valley

My 82 year old Mom lives in Michigan and needs a bit of help these days, so I spend months at a time in Ann Arbor. Because I have ready-to-live-in homes in both states, I have great flexibility regarding travel dates.

What makes this apartment unique

If you are looking for beauty, privacy, function and comfort, this lovely space has it all.

beautiful place in SF

What can I say? It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever entered. The lovingly designed apartment radiates through its Victorian elegance and at the same time from a rest, it's a joy. And the landlady Nancy is a real treasure.
And the location in SF is great. With tram stop, which leads directly into the city center or to the Pacific.

We were a party of three adults. This accommodation was very comfortable - the main being of a good size and the second bedroom a bit small. A well equipped kitchen and many home comforts. It is in a lovely location being in Cole Valley and about 15 mins from Union Square by public transport. The N Judah line is just across the road and goes every 15 mins. There are some lovely restaurants and bars in the locality.

Conveniently Located and Brightly Lit

  • 4 of 5
To escape from the ongoing teachers' strike in BC, my two kids (aged 13 and 11) and I rented this flat for three nights. Nancy is lovely and helpful as is her downstairs neighbour, James. The flat is sandwiched between two other flats, so I had to give the kids multiple warnings to tread gently. I would hesitate staying here with younger kids who simply have to run, hop, skip everywhere. As well, it is very close to the N-Judah street car, so the noise was audible. Light sleepers beware. The flat is Victorian, so there are little quirks in design such as the toilet being in a separate room from the sink and tub. It took some getting used to for the kids, but it makes sense to me. The front steps are steep, so I would hesitate recommending this for older people or for those who have disabilities. None of these things bothered us, but it might be enough for others to be put off. The photos on VRBO do not do it justice, especially on a sunny day. And although the beautiful garden is James', it was a treat to look out over it from Nancy's balcony each morning and watch the many hummingbirds flit through it.

Cole Valley flat

We had a great experience renting this property. Nancy was very accommodating and made things so easy. We needed to be near UCSF for my son's surgery. This location was perfect. We could walk back and forth to the hospital and come back to relax for a while. The cafés nearby are wonderful. One of out favorites treats was the Ice Cream Bar which was right down the street. I would highly recommend this flat and would definitely rent this again if we ever needed to go back to UCSF. Nancy made our stressful situation much less stressful, her home is beautiful, well decorated, very clean and comfortable. Thanks again.

Delightful Property - No Need To Hassle With A Car

  • 5 of 5
We had an absolutely wonderful time staying at 51 Carl for 10 nights. Easy access via public transportation: the N-Judah streetcar stops at the corner and jingles merrily and quietly by, slipping into a tunnel to downtown & transfer points to BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit-- to SFO airport or the East Bay) & to the famous cable cars in one direction, and to the ocean in the other. We were able to get all over town using the 511.org website and the NextBus app.

The property is as lovely, cozy, comfortable and spacious as described in other reviews; the front bedroom and great room/sun porch in the back are light-filled and airy. There are ample linens and towels, good sound insulation from the street, and views of the neighborhood backyards (flora, the fog slipping over the hills). Good gas stove top, oven is mounted very high on a wall-- hard for shorties like me to reach. Excellent recycling & composting capability. While it would have been nice to have 2 bathrooms, the separation of the WC from the tub room compensated somewhat for having only one bathroom, especially given an extra sink in the front bedroom. Having a washer/dryer on the same level was fabulous.

The property was an excellent venue for the low-key Open House we had for about 25 people. Everyone commented on what a great space it was; amply provisioned with portable chairs, tables, trays, serving bowls/platters, etc. We had it partially catered by Say Cheese!, which was delicious.

We enjoyed all the walks we took nearby (beautiful architecture, views, and the museums, gardens & groves of Golden Gate Park a few blocks away), renting bicycles at the eastern entrance of the Park on Stanyan & Haight, and eating at the crepe place at the corner of Cole & Carl. We also highly recommend taking the N-Judah streetcar to 9th Ave & Irving, to enjoy the bakery Arizmendi and to shop at the Farmer's Market on Sunday.

Kudos to the owner Nancy and to her downstairs neighbor James for being so helpful. We had the best time!

Awesome Location

  • 5 of 5
We loved our stay and had a wonderful time. The neighborhood was very quiet, surprising for such a busy city. Walking distance to everything you need. The owner was very attentive and kept in contact via text as needed. My daughter left her rings and the neighbor was nice enough to mail them to us. Street parking was not an issue for us. I was always able to park within a few blocks, but we left every morning and returned after meter hours. I would definitely stay here again.

Car: not necessary

Near a high street (shopping area), my home is located close to USF, grocery, shopping, restaurants, cafes and major bus lines.

Golden Gate Park is within easy walking distance and offers plenty to do, including bike riding and rollerblading (bike and rollerblade rental shops are three blocks away).

Within Golden Gate Park’s 1,017 acres you’ll discover gardens, playgrounds, lakes, picnic groves, trails, and monuments, plus an array of cultural venues, events, and activities.

Best known for its world-class attractions – the de Young Museum, the California Academy of Sciences and the Conservatory of Flowers – the east end of Golden Gate Park is a great place to spend an afternoon even if you can’t afford any admission tickets. Rich in history and filled with gardens, statues, memorials and vistas, this end of the park offers experiences as light-hearted as a carousel ride and as sobering as a visit to the National AIDS Memorial Grove.

Don’t want to rent a car? No problem – my property is one block from the N Judah metro line (and a Zip Car station is three blocks away).

In addition to the local Cole Valley retail shops (one block away), the vibrant Haight Ashbury and Inner Sunset (Irving Street) dining and shopping areas are just steps away.

Easy walk or three stops on the Metro to UCSF, with great commute connections to Stanford and Berkeley. Going east on the metro it’s 20 minutes to the ball park (home of the World Champion SF Giants!) and 12 minutes to Union Square (more great shopping); going west it’s 15 minutes to Ocean Beach.

20 minutes and and an easy public transportation commute to Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39.
