My husband and I stayed at Wings of Eden for 7 days. We loved it! We enjoyed sitting on the lanai, looking out over Kealakekua Bay 1,500 feet below. Birds and butterflies were in abundance. The interior of the unit is filled with interesting antiques and Hawaiiana. The owner was attentive to our needs and gave us some valuable tips about local businesses and places to visit. The property is located in coffee country; it is an excellent base from which to explore the south Kona coast and Kilauea volcano.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owner was very accomodating. I touched base with her a couple of times and she was delightful . The house is a well loved antique and vintage lovers dream. I felt very comfortable and at home immediately. The grounds and views are wonderful. We loved coming home at the end of the day. We ate lavishly on meals prepared by our own private chef right in our own kitchen. Sat on the porch in super comfortable chaise lounges and watched the world renowed Kona sunsets over Kealakekua bay. The rainy season had just finished so the yard was a little overgrown and needed some TLC . I still enjoyed exploring it. Not to ruin anyones surprise but this propery has a few hidden jewels on site. If you hike around the property, you'll be sweetly surprised by all it has to offer. In other words the house is not the only thing to enjoy here. I did not want a resort vacation; rather a true Hawaiian experience . This is exactly what we got. Place of refuge absolutely a must see is only a short drive away and The Painted Church on the way delightful. Snorkeling very close by as well. The shopping right down the hwy was also enjoyable. Must have breakfast at The Coffee Shack ( 5-10 mins away) views of the coffee fields below are spectacular. Wait staff remembered us each day and gave us the same perfect table. Patz pizza, again just down the hwy a short distance was the best pizza we've had in years!!!!! Had to give that chef a break one night. By the way he used all local ingrediantes. Kona and Hilo farmers markets are great for food and local crafts. We will definately do this again. FYI, there is an ohana which had tenants as well but we never crossed their paths. There was room for everyone to enjoy.

Families with Teenagers,
We first stayed a week in Kona and got our shopping, happy hours and people watching done. Then we came to Wings of Eden for 9 days to relax, dine on the lanai, watch the most incredible sunsets and savor the spectacular view of the countryside and ocean. The lush tropical plants and flowers on the property added to the privacy and richness. We loved that the crickets and frogs sang us to sleep every night. The upper level 'tree house' offered a different view of the ocean and comfortable seating for drinking coffee or reading. The Coffee Shack has a good breakfast with Oceanside seating and our dinner at Mi's Italian Bistro was one of the very best italian meals we've ever enjoyed. We will never forget our stay here and we hope to return..

We enjoyed our stay at Wings of Eden. The view was incredible! We loved having breakfast on the lanai every morning and enjoyed a drink on the couch outside at the end of the day. The whole house was more than spacious enough for the four of us. As mentioned before by other reviewers the kitchen equipment and the fridge might need a little makeover. The bedrooms are nice and the beds comfortable, the bathroom was a little used but ok. We liked the Hawaiian decor of the living room. There is also an iPod docking station with speakers, which was very nice. The steep driveway is a little adventure, but nothing to worry about with a decent car. The coqui frogs at night were a little annoying. But you get used to it and they are everywhere on the Big Island. A boogie board was also provided. We didn't use the kayak, because we had no idea how to take it with us. ;)
Owner's Response: Thanks for loving your stay at Wings of Eden!
Yes it's very spacious and comfortable with gorgeous views that cover the whole south coastline and almost all of Kealakekua Bay with it's pods of dolphins and whales in season.
I am adding new items to the kitchen and updating to make it the best vacation experience possible. I love to get feedback from guests to make it better.
There are some noodles and straps down by the kayak for putting the kayak safely on a car for transport. I'm sorry these guests didn't ask me , as I do give everyone my phone # and email.
I will put this info into the the guest notes at Wings of Eden so everyone will know.
I agree with the reviewers who pointed out the need to upgrade the kitchenware and dishes (and bath towels), but we also found the house (and bed) comfortable, imaginatively decorated and utterly unique. The two main reasons you should stay there are: the incomparable view from Capt. Cook monument to South Point, and that it is cool and comfortable at night to sleep without need of an air conditioner. I spent hours on the deck, looking through binoculars at all the beauty and activity on K-Bay, and came home completely rested and relaxed!
