The Blue Heron is premier vacation home on the rugged coast of Mendocino. This home is the perfect place for your family reunion, a gathering of friends, or as a romantic getaway for just the two of you.

Situated minutes from Mendocino Village, this newly remodeled home is tastefully appointed with high-vaulted ceilings, large picture windows, a wood burning stone fireplace, granite and marble countertops, top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances, Viking stove with six burners and a convection oven, and a second fireplace above the master whirlpool bath!

The two story open floor plan promotes communication between the kitchen, dining, living, and entertainment areas. The large well-stocked kitchen offers all the amenities you could want. Old and new kids alike can escape downstairs to the recreation room and play a board game, watch a movie, surf the wireless high-speed internet, or play one of 100 games on the commercial arcade machine.

Whitewater vistas are afforded from almost every room. Spend the day observing the abundant wildlife through the picture windows or watching the Pacific Ocean crash onto the rocks. Relax in the outdoor hot tub and listen to the sounds of the ocean while you gaze up at the stars. Watch one of the many movies provided on the widescreen TV with surround sound, play a board game, start a puzzle, or simply enjoy a good book.

If you prefer to venture out; stroll or bike to nearby Russian Gulch State Park with its lush fern gullies, small beach, and waterfalls. Mendocino Village is only a three minute drive south with wonderful shops and some of the finest cuisine in California. Historic Fort Bragg, just ten minutes north, is home to the famous Skunk Train, miles of oceanfront walking, biking, and horseback riding.

About Saundra & Eric

Eric and I spent our first vacation together in Mendocino almost twenty years ago and it quickly became one of our very favorite places to be. We began our adventures in local B&Bs but soon found that we enjoyed the freedom and privacy of vacation rental homes. In 2004 we were fortunate to purchase a newly remodeled home near Russian Gulch State Park and dubbed her The Blue Heron. Taking the best of our experiences we strive to provide the perfect place for your vacation, retreat, reunion, or romantic getaway.

Why Saundra & Eric chose Mendocino

Getting away from the hustle and bustle of the Bay Area is just a short drive away. We both have a strong desire to be close to the ocean and to be surrounded by all of the beauty and nature that Mendocino has to offer.

What makes this house unique

We enjoy walking to the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse, hiking the waterfall trail in Russian Gulch, dining in some of California's finest restaurants, shopping in the village, meandering along the bluff tops, and spending time in the local Gallery Bookshop. But most of all we enjoy sitting at home watching the ocean churn and the wildlife that visits our property; wild turkeys, deer, osprey, rabbits, quail, and if there's a storm, we watch that too. Just to be there reading a book or taking a nap is wonderful!

The Blue Heron was a wonderful place for a long-dreamed of family gathering. We hoped it would be as great as it was described and we were certainly not disappointed. It was beautiful and had everything we needed and the location between Mendocino and Fort Bragg allowed us to enjoy all the activities we had planned. The Blue Heron was a perfect place for the gathering of our families and the making of wonderful memories in this lovely home by the sea.

The Blue Heron provided a wonderful environment for our annual family reunion. The property was very clean, well appointed and comfortable for our three adult children and their families. The kitchen is up scale with great views and open to the large well lit great room with it's wall of windows facing the coast. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated with comfortable beds. The kids (and adults) enjoyed the arcade games and we all had a great time! The only negative is a safety issue with the hard wood stairs. Our grandchildren (0-6 yrs.) slipped and fell numerous times. A runner would add to the safety. Otherwise, the property was excellent!

My family and I just returned from 3 nights at the Blue Heron vacation home in Mendocino. It was a wonderful mini vacation - clear/blue weather, beautiful coast, and a large, welcoming and clean home at the Blue Heron. The floor plan is perfect for a family with kids (the have a large entertainment/play room downstairs) and enjoying the ocean views and sunsets from the main living area upstairs. The owners have made an extra effort to ensure the home is well equipped (from A to Z) and set up with the latest technology (e.g., wi-fi, Pandora, Netflix streaming). We highly recommend a stay at the Blue Heron.

Clean, very well appointed, quiet home located in a perfect spot (away from highway traffic and noise) to see all that Mendocino has to offer.
Plenty of space for a couple of families to enjoy the North Coast. Would definitely come back again- the owners were very accommodating (I had to change dates- no problem). The kitchen is a chef's dream- everything you could possibly require to cook gourmet meals.

Rented the Blue Heron for a family celebration of husband's 60th. There were 6 of us - parents and two couples of adult children. House was perfect for this. The downstairs would have been perfect for a couple of smaller children as well. The home is clean, well-organized, and offers separate as well as gathering space. The drive to town is short and the hikes around the house are lovely. We saw whales from the bluff. House has an ocean view that is visible from the couch in front of the window - great to curl up and read early in the morning. All three couples were able to coexist - read, play games, do puzzles, nap - anytime without bothering the others. Saundra was helpful and we would love to return.
