The Blue Heron is premier vacation home on the rugged coast of Mendocino. This home is the perfect place for your family reunion, a gathering of friends, or as a romantic getaway for just the two of you.

Situated minutes from Mendocino Village, this newly remodeled home is tastefully appointed with high-vaulted ceilings, large picture windows, a wood burning stone fireplace, granite and marble countertops, top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances, Viking stove with six burners and a convection oven, and a second fireplace above the master whirlpool bath!

The two story open floor plan promotes communication between the kitchen, dining, living, and entertainment areas. The large well-stocked kitchen offers all the amenities you could want. Old and new kids alike can escape downstairs to the recreation room and play a board game, watch a movie, surf the wireless high-speed internet, or play one of 100 games on the commercial arcade machine.

Whitewater vistas are afforded from almost every room. Spend the day observing the abundant wildlife through the picture windows or watching the Pacific Ocean crash onto the rocks. Relax in the outdoor hot tub and listen to the sounds of the ocean while you gaze up at the stars. Watch one of the many movies provided on the widescreen TV with surround sound, play a board game, start a puzzle, or simply enjoy a good book.

If you prefer to venture out; stroll or bike to nearby Russian Gulch State Park with its lush fern gullies, small beach, and waterfalls. Mendocino Village is only a three minute drive south with wonderful shops and some of the finest cuisine in California. Historic Fort Bragg, just ten minutes north, is home to the famous Skunk Train, miles of oceanfront walking, biking, and horseback riding.

Enjoy the best that the North Coast has to offer in this Mendocino Gem. Don't let the chance slip away for you to reserve this wonderful home before it books up for the season.

About Saundra & Eric

Eric and I spent our first vacation together in Mendocino almost twenty years ago and it quickly became one of our very favorite places to be. We began our adventures in local B&Bs but soon found that we enjoyed the freedom and privacy of vacation rental homes. In 2004 we were fortunate to purchase a newly remodeled home near Russian Gulch State Park and dubbed her The Blue Heron. Taking the best of our experiences we strive to provide the perfect place for your vacation, retreat, reunion, or romantic getaway.

Saundra & Eric purchased this house in 2004

Why Saundra & Eric chose Mendocino

Getting away from the hustle and bustle of the Bay Area is just a short drive away. We both have a strong desire to be close to the ocean and to be surrounded by all of the beauty and nature that Mendocino has to offer.

What makes this house unique

We enjoy walking to the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse, hiking the waterfall trail in Russian Gulch, dining in some of California's finest restaurants, shopping in the village, meandering along the bluff tops, and spending time in the local Gallery Bookshop. But most of all we enjoy sitting at home watching the ocean churn and the wildlife that visits our property; wild turkeys, deer, osprey, rabbits, quail, and if there's a storm, we watch that too. Just to be there reading a book or taking a nap is wonderful!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our stay. The openess and cleanliness of the whole place let us relax immediately. Dealing with Saundra was also very good. Hope to go back again soon.

The Blue Heron was a wonderful place for a long-dreamed of family gathering. We hoped it would be as great as it was described and we were certainly not disappointed. It was beautiful and had everything we needed and the location between Mendocino and Fort Bragg allowed us to enjoy all the activities we had planned. The Blue Heron was a perfect place for the gathering of our families and the making of wonderful memories in this lovely home by the sea.

Beautiful Home and View of the Ocean

  • 3 of 5
My siblings and our spouses come together for an annual get-a-way in the Fall. Mendocino was our location of choice and we found the Blue Heron to be a lovely setting. The house is a beautiful floor plan and very spacious. We had an average experience for the following reasons: 1) The bathrooms and bedding were very clean, however the carpets and rugs throughout the house are in desperate need of cleaning. The tile and hardwood floors needed to be swept and cleaned, and the spectacular window looking out onto the ocean was full of finger, hand, and nose prints; 2) There were 6 of us sharing the home which was noted in the rental contact. There were plenty of towels, however a shortage of wash cloths. I contacted the owner to ask that the cleaning service provide additional wash cloths. I was told that they had replaced hundreds of wash cloths throughout the season and because it was end of season, they had stopped replenishing them. I found this response very odd as I view linens and towels a basic service and a part of running a business. I guess the moral of this story is to rent this property at the beginning of the season!

The house is spectacular- it just needs some TLC. Perhaps the owners should change cleaning and maintenance service- they're certainly not getting their monies worth. As for the basic amenities, if the owner is not going to provide then they need to disclose in the contract so renters are aware. They disclosed no facial soap was provided so we were prepared. Based upon our experience we will not return to the Blue Heron in the Fall.

Beautiful home, pleasant owners to schedule with

  • 5 of 5
Although my weekend started out to be 7 people (ended up being 3) and we made reservations on pretty short notice, the owners were very understanding and accommodating. We had a wonderful Mother Daughter weekend enjoying each other in a beautiful home/neighbor hood, accommodations. I don't think we left the house before noon due to the amazing views looking out the front window. The house is spacious, clutter free and luxurious. We had an amazing time cooking in the well stocked kitchen. I would definitely plan another stay at the Blue Heron when time and funds permit. Thank you!

Wedding weekend

  • 5 of 5
This property is exactly what you see in the photos. It's very clean and well kept. Quiet, peaceful and a beautiful view. We had 5 adults and 2 children for a weekend wedding at Pt. Cabrillo Lighthouse. It was close by everything, ie: reception in Caspar and activities in Mendocino village. The two couples, plus a single had their own room and the children loved sleeping on their own futons in the game room downstairs. The owners are very nice people to work with, very professional. The Wednesday before our arrival there was a big catastrophe, the water heater and furnace going out meaning no hot water and no heat. The owners tried finding us another place to stay in Mendocino Village, but was everything was booked (3 weddings that weekend) and another house for us to look at online in Ft. Bragg. They offered us a 50% discount to stay if we wanted to. After looking up the house in Ft. Bragg, it was not close to Blue Heron quality, we opted to stay without hot water. We survived and glad we did, it's a beautiful home and you'll love staying there.

Great Location

  • 5 of 5
We spent 5 great days at the Blue Heron. The listing and photos accurately describe the property although we found it to be more open and spacious than expected. Mendocino was charming and breakfast at the Mendocino Hotel was
superb. We enjoyed a four mile hike to the waterfall in Russian Gulch State Park near the entrance to the neighborhood. Everything was conveniently located, food market, shopping, restaurants, Parks to explore and coastal views galore. Saundra was very helpful with local information and was available by phone to answer any questions.
