The quintessential Seattle experience – this Bainbridge Island beach cottage is just a short ferry ride from all that downtown Seattle offers.
The property is one of the original island escapes – sitting on an acre of oceanfront land, the cottage is seen from the ferry as you enter Eagle Harbor. Built in 1907, the quaint 2-bedroom cottage with play loft and detached cedar-lined bunkroom has great character, and for extra guests can be combined with the adjacent carriage studio with king bed, bath and kitchenette.
The property is easily accessible from downtown Seattle via a 35-minute ferry ride and walk/drive through the Wing Point Country Club golf course to the private lane which accesses waterfront homes on either side of Wing Point. Located near the end of the point, the location is remote and peaceful and home to numerous bald eagles that nest in the surrounding evergreens.
The cottage faces due south, oriented toward the entrance to Eagle Harbor. It has original bedrooms (small!) one with a queen bed and the other with built-in bunks. There is a separate bunkhouse consisting of a queen and 3 bunk beds connected to the cottage by a short breezeway. The cottage deck has outdoor dining and sitting areas and looks out onto a large flat lawn and the harbor beyond.
The studio boasts some of the best views on the property with a vaulted ceiling, king bed, sitting area and kitchenette – and is an ideal spot for a nanny or grandparents.
There are numerous activities both on Bainbridge and downtown Seattle, allowing you to combine a remote island vacation with trips into the city to see the many sites that have made Seattle such a popular destination. The ferry is only a 20 minute walk from the house (along the beach if you like at low tide) and most of the major Seattle attractions are just a short walk from the Seattle ferry terminal – allowing you to leave the car behind.
Downtown Winslow on Bainbridge is also just a 20 minute walk (or take one of the vintage tandem bikes provided) where you will find dozens of independent boutiques and specialty shops including a wonderful assortment of restaurants, galleries and antique stores. Winslow also features three tasting rooms that serve five of the island's wineries as well as top-rated restaurants like Hitchcock, Marche and Four Swallows.
Naturalists will enjoy beach walks and destinations like Bloedel reserve - a 150-acre nature preserve, and gamblers can have a car sent for them from nearby Clearwater Casino – all convenient options on the island.
CNN and Travel and Leisure did a piece on the uniqueness of Bainbridge:
At the property, there are also numerous activities to enjoy - including 2 tandem bikes for rides in to town, kayaking the harbor, bocce ball, outdoor ping pong, or badminton/volleyball in the yard. Just a short walk up the lane is Wing Point Country Club where we can host guests for a round of golf, tennis or afternoon at the pool schedules permitting. We look forward to sharing this classic beach house property and all that Bainbridge Island has to offer!
Please note this is a non-smoking property.
