These properties have been where our family comes to reconnect every summer since 1987. We have had so many wonderful memories here. Now we are all scattered across the country and renting them out for others to enjoy allows us to keep them for the rare times we can all come together.
Jackie Grossnickle purchased this cabin in 1987
My family and I stayed here last week and had a GREAT time. My kids loved the beach during the day and the campfires at night. The cottage was clean and roomy and had games and DVD's to use while indoors. Great location and accommodations. Thanks, Jackie!!
Our family had a WONDERFUL time during our annual Hill family vacation!!! The cabin was clean, cozy, and most importantly we felt at home. We had an amazing time playing Ringo, Tether ball (beach), fishing, swimming, camp fire. We even had room in front of the cabin for the kids to play soccer. We will definately be back next year. The price was very fair, considering the Grossnickle's had everything and anything you could possible need. I felt at home... I love this cabin and its location! Thank you for everything. Our family did not want to come back home... :) This was probably the best family vacation we have had. THANK YOU Jackie!!
My family and I had a fantastic time at this cottage! The cottage was roomy and very comfortable and everything you could possibly need was available. We were very pleased with how close we were to the water without being right on the lake. The kids enjoyed the nice beach area. Jackie was extremely accommodating and offered great communication before, and during the stay.
The owners were most accommodating to my large group. The kitchen was well stocked with all the necessities. We loved the outdoor space, the yard for setting up games and the private beach with outdoor games and fire pit. (forgot how much fun tether ball was) Lots of biking, tubing, waterskiing, and enjoying the area. wonderful area to be at
We had an enjoyable stay at Houghton Lake. The cottage was cute, clean and comfortable and had many nice amenities. It slept all 8 people very comfortably. It was nice having the option to have air conditioning on hot nights. The lake access was nice and close by. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others. There were many activities for my teenagers to do and they stayed busy. Thank you for the use of your cottage.
Wonderful and spacious. Darned near everything you could need was already in the cabin right down to towels and linens, even a washer and dryer. Met some wonderful neighbors too. There is a fish cleaning house and it is only a quarter mile offshore to the weed beds. Boat mooring is out in the lake due to the type of dock, but the water is only thigh deep. I bought a tube, paddled out and tied it to the bottle because I'm like a little girl when it comes to cold water at 6 AM. Walleye,Northern, Largemouth and panfish are plentiful. All shopping is within a couple miles in either direction and if you walk a block up towards the road, you can get WiFi from the high school. I was delighted to find cable TV in the cabin too.
If there was a downside, it would be that there isn't a view of the lake from the cabin. This is well stated in the listing and I knew it isn't really a big deal. You can step a few feet off the porch and see the lake and if the weather is bad....ya don't wanna see the lake anyway. With the central location of Houghton Lake in the State, neat things to see are within two hours in any direction. Like the logging museum at Hartwick Pines State Park or the riverboat over in Oscoda on the Ausable River or a quick daytrip up to the Mighty Mac..
The owner, Jackie, is a warm and wonderful person to deal with, and there were absolutely no problems whatsoever. I would wholeheartedly recommend a stay at the cabin to anyone.
Lake town on the largest in-land lake in Michigan. Plenty of activities for the whole family within minutes of cabins. Including, but not limited to, boat, jet ski and kayak rentals, golf courses, mini golf, arcades, haunted house, bumper boats, batting cages, etc. Close proximity to restaurants, grocery stores and shopping. Houghton Lake has one of the largest craft stores in the state. Houghton Lake is rich in Native American history and has weekly reenactments of native dances and pow wows as well as shopping for Native American treasures. Something for the whole family with plenty of year round activities.
