BEAUTIFUL, QUIET, SECLUDED HOME WITH LOVELY VIEWS.

Honokaa House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 2 baths, ocean view with soothing trade winds.

A custom-designed home nestled among flowers and fruit trees at the end of a country lane. Here, you'll find all the conveniences, but no sign of tourism to detract from the charm of 'Old Hawaii'. Open decks, rather than closed hallways, connect the 'Great Room' (spacious living/dining/kitchen) to the bedrooms. The chef(s) can easily see and converse with their friends and family in the dining and living room areas. On a cool or rainy evening, the fireplace can be enjoyed from most areas of the Great Room. Walls in all rooms are adorned with original paintings and limited edition prints by Hawaiian artists. You can enjoy beautiful views and soft breezes from inside the house - especially the Great Room with its large expanses of glass - and from the open decks outside each guest room. When guests first arrive, they often say, 'the pictures don't do it justice', and 'It feels like a botanical garden sanctuary!'

Young seniors in love with each other and this heavenly piece of land. For 20 years we have worked with the land to bring forth verdant vistas, abundant fruit and nut trees, meditative nooks, honoring the spirits of the generations who loved this land before us.

Dave purchased this house in 1994

This land called out to us the first time we saw it. For a year, we lived in a tent where we could feel every breeze and hear each birdsong, while we designed a home to reflect the relaxed Hawaiian lifestyle while taking fullest advantage of the tradewinds and the stunningly beautiful view of the blue Pacific - two miles away but seemingly close enough to touch from our vantage point at 1,000 feet elevation where ii's rarely very hot or cold, but almost always 'just right'.

Clean air. Peace. Quiet. Serenity. Wild turkeys. Fragrant flowers. Twenty-two varieties of fruits you can pick and enjoy in season. Swaying palms. Colors everywhere, including just about every shade of green imaginable. Relaxation. Outdoor hot tub. Hawaii the way the ancients enjoyed it, but with up-to-date conveniences for your comfort.

WE WILL RETURN!

  • 5 of 5
Ahhhhh! The sound of my contented sigh as I think back to our 4 night stay in paradise. Every muscle relaxes as I remember the fun of the outdoor shower (we never used the 2 in the house), then hopping into the hot tub to soak up the garden & ocean view. With the screened doors & windows open all the time, it felt like living outdoors. Wandering the private yard/garden with a cuppa in the morning, in our bare feet and jammies. What a way to start the day! Percy the Peacock, Charlie the dog, Honu the horse ~ all made us welcome. The 2 main bedrooms are on opposite sides of the open concept kitchen/dining room/living room which makes it excellent for 2 couples travelling together. Kitchen was very well equipped. First thing we did was 4 loads of laundry. We picked up supper that 1st night at the grocery store in Honokaa, which was recommended by our hosts. Rightly so. I enjoyed reading the books stacked on the fireplace, on what to enjoy on the Big Island. The store to book ATV & horseback tours is just minutes down the road. So is Waipio Valley lookout. The best beaches on the Island are only 40 min. away. Waimea is a fun shopping trip and a lazy 20 min drive. While we loved everything about our 2 weeks on the Big Island, this was by far our favourite "home away from home". Thank you, Dave & Sherry. You have done an excellent job!!!

BEAUTIFUL RELAXING HOME IN QUIET PRIVATE SETTING

  • 5 of 5
Such a lovely home, and very welcoming and gracious hosts. The house itself is well designed and has beautiful details throughout. The kitchen is well stocked and has plenty of room. Beautiful large windows everywhere to make you feel a part of their lovely property. Amazing orchid plants in every room. Fresh macadamia nuts from their trees. Do I sound relaxed and happy ? You will be too! Three bedrooms are quite separate and allow for privacy. Grocery store and cute restaurants close by. Enjoy your stay.

A LITTLE PIECE OF HEAVEN!!!!

  • 5 of 5
Our stay here at Dave and Sherrys was excellent. We spent a week living here (2 couples) and loved every minute. Upon arrival we were greeted by Charlie who was super friendly and bought some carrots at the local market to feed the horse Hoku. The pictures online do not do this property justice - it is absolutely stunning!!! I would recommend this property to anyone wanting to visit the Big Island - especially if you are looking to hide away from the high traffic tourist area's!!! We also used the hot tubs during the evenings to relax (the wine helps too) and at night time the stars are like nothing I have ever seen before. If you are planning a visit to the Big Island of Hawaii - give Dave a call! They are super accommodating and friendly!

THE BEST WEEK

  • 5 of 5
This property is so private and comfortable----we hardly left it our one week there. Dave and Sherry are excellent hosts----giving us information about the area, but also a lot of privacy. The grounds are beautiful---so much care given to the tropical plants. Amazing views from every window in the comfortable open house. We loved the bed. Everything we needed was in the kitchen----and we cooked in as it was enjoyable to be there. I did buy local made items in the little shops at Honokaa-----nice little laid-back town. Good grocery store. Be sure to buy carrots as Hoku, the horse loves them. Nice lunch at the Landings Sports Bar watching the NFL playoffs. Be sure to ask for a tour of their new home on the property.

FANTASTIC !!

  • 5 of 5
We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home! Dave and Sherry were wonderful hosts. The home is beautiful, comfortable and had everything we needed. We really enjoyed the delicious fresh fruit from the trees on the property too (oranges, grapefruits, limes and avocados!!). The hot tub was so nice to watch the stars from once the sun went down. We enjoyed being out in the country but still close to the great town of Honoka'a! We definitely recommend this home and would love to return in the future! MAHALO!

PARADISE FOUND (FOR DISCERNING TRAVELLERS)

  • 5 of 5
As experienced VRBO travellers, we did our due diligence and spoke at length with Dave and Sherry before booking. We were impressed with how generous the owners were with their time as we were making our decision. Needless to say, our expectations were exceeded upon arrival. The pictures give only a glimpse of their gorgeous home and peaceful property. Our stay was for nearly a month and despite seeing many other parts of the island, we couldn't imagine staying anywhere else. Dave and Sherry went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable, happy and filled with insider's information to give us memorable experiences. My only complaint was that I couldn't locate a cheese grater - seriously! If you're seeking somewhere peaceful, bountiful ( we plucked tangerines, starfruit, limes and avocados everyday as our 'drive-through'), and central to beautiful sights, this is it. We are already discussing our return!
