Our family relocated in 2012 from the south of England to the Chicago area. My husband and I are both Americans but we lived in the UK for nearly 8 years and both our boys were born there. We have traveled quite a bit through Europe and enjoy getting to know people from all cultures and backgrounds. We look forward to the opportunity to meet new people as we welcome them to Hillberry House!

Evanston is a vibrant community and living here is like living in a city within a city. It has a semi-urban feel without feeling too developed and really bridges the divide between Chicago and the rest of the North Shore communities. Being a university town creates many opportunities for cultural events including art exhibits, lectures and theater. After settling on Evanston as the area in which we would like to buy we searched for a short term furnished rental in the area with no luck. Even pricier corporate rentals were in short supply and these were not very family-friendly. So an idea was born and we set out to find a property which would allow us to provide a family-friendly, fully equipped short term rental experience for other families like ours.
I stayed at this property for a few weeks in December-January and would highly recommend it, especially for those with families, as it is like living in a house in Evanston. The house is on a quiet residential street but is conveniently located within a mile or so of various commercial areas. Since it was mid-winter, I did not do much walking but I imagine the walk into town would be very pleasant in better weather. The home was spacious and accommodated various visiting family, including several adults and babies. The fully equipped kitchen allowed me to prepare even holiday meals for the extended family and having a washer and dryer in the basement was extremely convenient as well.
The owner provided plenty of toys for the toddler to be occupied during her stay (I also noticed couple of kid-friendly parks within a couple of blocks). The owners were also very accessible and helpful, immediately taking care of a heating issue even while they were out of town on vacation, and I was especially grateful that they shoveled quickly every time it snowed, even thoughtfully shoveling a path to our car door. I would recommend this property without any hesitation.
We were inroduced to the property by our friend that lived around the corner. The listing was just like the photos in the ad and accomadated comfortably the four of us. It was very clean and we were happy to keep it so. We were acquainted with the area and new that the shopping and the train to Chicago are a 20 minute walk away. The owner next door was friendly and helpful. We found a wonderful Thai resturant in downtown Evanston, besides all the attraction of the city of Chicago. I certainly would recommend the property to any family.
Our holiday stay in this property was very comfortable. The rooms are really spacious with all the necessary amenities. A safe home for medium and large sized families. Property is well maintained and clean. The location is also admirable. We would love to use it over and over again if the need arises.
My wife and three boys (ages 6, 4 and 2) stayed at this property for six weeks this summer, as we were between residences and needed temporary lodging. The residence has been renovated very nicely and is in excellent condition. It is within walking distance of both the Metra and CTA Purple Line in south Evanston, which made it very convenient for commuting purposes, or if you wanted to head in to Chicago for leisure. The owners were wonderful and very accommodating, and were also extremely responsive to any questions or concerns. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would highly recommend the property.
