My husband, and I met in NY, in 1997 as he was passing through my hometown of Bronxville, NY. He was visiting a mutual friend who introduced us. We got engaged in June of 2001 (married in November of 2001). He asked me to move to North Carolina so he could be close to his son until he graduated high school in 2004. I agreed, knowing I would return to NY to visit my ailing mother and father regularly and together eventually we would move back north. We decided we should buy a home rather than rent. After 6 months of looking we both agreed we loved the rental cottage my husband was living in. Soon after his landlord called to tell us she was going to sell the cottage. Perfect! We purchased it a month after our wedding and decided we needed to up date it and do a few minor things to make it our own. 5 months later I found out I was pregnant and told my husband he needed to ask the village planner to move things along! Our renovation started when our daughter was 4 months old in late may of 2003 and was completed shortly after the birth of our son in April of 2004. So much for moving back north 2 years later as I had planned! As our kids got older and started pre-school I did not want to leave our home or all the wonderful friends we had made. Our home was perfect for our young family. Complete with a small heated swimming pool we used roughly 6 months of the year and decorated by a new york interior designer we met through an old college buddy of my husband's. As our son still loves to say the house was cozy!
As my mother's Alzheimer's was getting worse and my father was getting older I knew it was time to move north. My stepson had long since graduated from college and it was time for us to go. We now live in Westport, CT 40 minutes from my parents but go to our 'cozy' home as often as we can. We still love walks into the village and visit as many friends and favorite places as possible. As the kids say Pinehurst will always be home.
FRANCESCA purchased this cottage in 2001
We loved the simplicity and feel of this little home and the vision of what we wanted to turn it into. We loved the proximity to the village, spa, friends, restaurants, golf, southern pines and so much more. The best way I can describe our house is a happy house. It is an easy to live in and enjoy life cottage.
The kitchen is easy to use and a fun place to cook.
On a sunny morning it is great to have the screen door open and smell the fresh air either as you gaze out the window and sip your coffee at the table, or while sitting on the front porch. You can enjoy music while playing a game of pool or ping pong in the beautiful rustic game room with antique barnwood walls, or while relaxing in the pool. Enjoy a hot sauna or cuddle up with a book in front of the fire place. Grill dinner on the BBQ by the pool or sit in the sun on a hot day and watch TV from the chaise. You can do it all. This is a very casual and fun place to stay while visiting Pinehurst, great for a group of guys, a girls weekend, couples or a family.
