HERON LEDGE – WATKINS GLEN VIEW WITH 800’ OF SENECA LAKE FRONTAGE

Burdett House Rental Photos and Description

2 bedroom, 2 bath, lakefront view property

If you’re planning a trip to the Finger Lakes, Heron Ledge has just what you want: privacy, massive view, large decks, open floor plan, and contemporary accommodations. Only minutes from Watkins Glen, the home is perched 125’ above the lake on a cliff known as the “Painted Rocks.” Located on the east side of Seneca, you will be spoiled with breathtaking sunsets. This is the perfect “base camp” for exploring the wineries on both the east and west sides of Seneca Lake. If the wine trail doesn’t keep you busy enough, explore the cheese trail, tour the local waterfalls, or rent a boat in Watkins Glen for your own personal tour of the lake.

The main floor of the house has a great room with floor to ceiling windows facing the lake. The kitchen, living room, and dining area have an open floor plan. The kitchen is appointed with a large pantry, you are stocked with all of your cooking needs. Basic herbs, spices, and condiments are provided. A new refrigerator/freezer and state of the art dishwasher accompany a gas range, microwave, and Kuerig coffee maker compliment the kitchen, stocked with all the amenities you will need to cook and serve your homemade meals. A furnished sunroom is located off the kitchen for enjoying a good book in the afternoon, and the loft offers an additional sitting area with a coffee table, love seat, futon sofa (that converts to a sleeping space) and a desk.

The lower level of the house contains the master bedroom, guest room, and a beautifully tiled bathroom. The master bedroom has a king size bed, walk-in closet, lake view, and a private entrance onto the deck. The guest bedroom is furnished with a queen size bed, dresser, end tables, closet, and lake view. Towels and linens are provided.

The living room is equipped with a 47” flat screen TV, Blu-ray DVD player, and a surround sound system. Standard cable TV with over 100 HD stations and high speed wireless internet is also provided. All of the entertainment components are Wi-Fi enabled with access to Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, YouTube, etc. There are hundreds of channels of internet radio to choose from too. If you are looking for more traditional forms of entertainment, we also have board games for all ages, playing cards, dominoes, and jig saw puzzles. Forgot to bring a book? We have two large bookcases filled with almost 500 books to read! But most likely you will be content to sit out on one of the 3 amazing decks with a glass of wine to enjoy Seneca Lake.

This year-round house was custom designed and has been well maintained. A dishwasher and washer/dryer are provided. The lower level has radiant heat through the concrete slab, and the upper level has two Mitsubishi heating and cooling units to keep the house comfortable in any weather. The fireplace on the main floor adds ambiance and therapeutic warmth on a cold winter night. The HRV central ventilation system continuously circulates fresh air throughout the house. A Weber gas grill on the deck delivers quick and convenient meals.

Outdoors, we have over 3 acres of naturally wooded hillside. Mature oak, hickory, and maple trees create lush shade in the summer time. In the fall, the colors are unbelievably beautiful. Natural stone steps wind down to a spacious lower level with a fire ring, all inlaid with large shale flagstones. The stone steps continue down to a huge observation deck on the edge of the cliff. Epic views over the lake, and down on the fishermen. The nighttime lights of Watkins Glen will captivate you.

Heron Ledge is marketed as an amazing view property with privacy, but it also has 800’ of natural shale beach. Locals know this property as the “Painted Rocks” and it features centuries-old cliff-side painted illustrations commemorating the indians’ escape from General Sullivan’s war campaign. The paintings have been restored over the years, and an American flag and tee-pee were added in 1929. The Painted Rocks remain an important landmark and icon to Seneca Lake boaters and its lore. Access to the beach, however, is not a casual affair. It involves a long hike down steep slopes with a short vertical climb at the end. The path is not well defined, but your reward will be a huge private beach with a dock. This is NOT a traditional vacation rental with direct access to the lake, but if you have full mobility and plenty of energy, you can get there!

My wife and I grew up in the Finger Lakes, and we spent most of our weekends at either Seneca or Keuka Lake when we were younger. We love the climate, the change of seasons, and the wine culture that has developed here over the years.

Kathy Allison - Finger Lakes Getaways purchased this house in 2012

The east side of Seneca Lake offers beautiful sunsets on a nightly basis! We are close to Watkins Glen for convenient shopping, and also central to Ithaca, Elmira, or Corning. If you want to visit the local wineries, we are at the end of the lake, so you can head up either the east or west side of Seneca for your tour.

Location, Location, Location! There are no other cottages around us, you have complete privacy to do as you please. This end of the lake is very popular with boaters, and the fishing is superb in front of the house. From the observation deck 125’ above the lake, you have a commanding view over all of this activity.

Enjoyable retreat

  • 5 of 5
My wife was recovering from surgery and we wanted to get away from the Houston heat. We vastly enjoyed our stay at Heron Ledge. It was clean and had several amenities, such as Netflix for the TV and a Kuerig coffee machine. The furniture was cozy, which was good since we rarely left. It also had a very nice view of the lake and we spent a lot of time on the patio. I would highly recommend this rental for a couples retreat or for a small group.

TERRIFIC STAY

  • 5 of 5
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Heron's Ledge. A really lovely property perched on the edge of beautiful Lake Seneca, the views in every direction are remarkable. This home is equipped with every imaginable convenience. We wanted for nothing. It's also a great location being only 20 minutes from Ithaca (don't miss the weekend Farmer's Market) and 20 minutes from Corning (wonderful main street). Also 5 minutes from Watkins Glen making errands convenient. Would highly recommend this rental to all.

One note of caution - be careful making the left turn into the driveway. On more than one occasion, as we started to turn, maniac drivers came from behind and roared past us. Just make sure to check your side view mirror before turning.

Perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5
Our stay could not have been better. Heron Ledge is a stunning home on stunning property. We were four adults and two preteen children. We made wonderful meals in the well-appointed kitchen, enjoyed late morning coffee on the secluded deck, had a picnic down at the lower deck, roasted banana boats at the fire pit and made crafts at the kitchen table and the living room coffee table. The owner has every amenity at your fingertips, including 500 (!) books tucked all through the house, a Keurig coffee maker, a radio/CD player, even games to play.
A three-night stay, and we all returned to our respective homes refreshed and relaxed. Very convenient to Watkins Glen and on top of that, easy to find. No convoluted roads to navigate to find Heron Ledge. The only thing you will want after staying at Heron Ledge is to find your own Heron Ledge to move to permanently. It was perfect in every way.

May Long Weekend from Canada

  • 5 of 5
The five of us enjoyed our stay immensely. The vacation home has beautiful views, is in a great location, is exceptionally clean and has all the small amenities ( Keurig machine, spices, glasses of all shapes and sizes etc....) that make it feel like home!

Will return next year if we can.

Spectacular setting

  • 5 of 5
Heron Ledge provided a spectacular setting for our recent Thanksgiving weekend visit. The kitchen and pantry supplied every need for preparing a Thanksgiving feast and other meals—all equipment was state-of-the-art. The location provided enjoyable opportunity for excursions to nearby Watkins Glen and local wineries. But above all the house itself is beautifully situated and splendidly designed—a continual joy. The floor space is not huge—very comfortable for a small group of people. And yet the design of the rising ceiling and floor-to-ceiling windows, overlooking lake and sky, provide a sense of openness and space, and continually shifting views, as you move from one area to another—in the living room, dining room, and the loft above. We also enjoyed the excellent sound system, and the range of music stations we could tune in, to suit any mood—as well as the use of Netflix and the DVD player.

While anyone visiting from late spring to early fall could make much better use of the outdoor terraces and activities, this is a great place to visit in the winter. You could bring your own food, drink, books, DVDs, and some good company (as we did). And then let it snow.

Perfect for a Finger Lakes Getaway

  • 5 of 5
Our stay at Heren Ledge could not have been better. As the pictures indicate, the property is fantastic, with stunning views of Seneca Lake from a variety of vantage points. The owners have taken great care to make sure you have a great experience.  Upon our arrival we found the house to be clean, spacious, well furnished, and very organized (right down to labels on all of the switches). The kitchen has everything you need and the adjacent pantry contains the essentials. Heren Ledge is  just 5 minutes from downtown Watkins Glen and the Watkins Glen State Park (a must see).  There are several nice restaurants within minutes and of course dozens of Finger Lakes Wineries.

We definitely will stay here on our next trip to the Finger Lakes.
