Overall, this is an excellent rental. Great proximity to the beach, close enough to walk to food or town while far enough away to feel secluded and peaceful. Gated community so you feel secure the whole time. Seems like someone's house that they converted to a vrbo, vs. a place that someone bought for that purpose alone. We found a 2012 RMLS listing for the place that seems to suggest just that, as it mentioned no rental history.
The layout is just like the pictures which are accurate - open concept kitchen/living room. Two bedrooms on the main - sort of dark but ok for kids. Second floor main features a too-soft bed but a nice en-suite master with separate vanities and a nice tub. Hot tub off the main floor is nice and big - honestly the deck isn't big enough for it - if you open the cover all the way you end up dead lifting it to get it back on - only an issue if it's raining and cold like it was for us. Normally you have a bar that lets you move the cover off an on easily - if you have physical challenges that's something to consider.
The property is starting to show some lack of maintenance - the lock for a cable across the hot tub (you have a key to open it) was so rusted we could barely get it open, some mold on the gutters, unpainted hole patch in the wall. All of the furniture has been there a while - sofa and bed are very squishy. Slate floors are great looking but the minimal floor covering in the living area doesn't afford a lot of safety for little ones that tend to lose their balance easily. Lighting in the living area is more on the 'mood lighting' side but it's adequate. My wife really didn't like their bath products - might bring your own soap/shampoo. The hot tub guy also came an hour before checkout...bad.
They have about everything you could ask for - we didn't want for anything. 50+ DVD movies - lots of the popular ones. Third floor office/nook has a separate tv/couch area where you can see the ocean - if you wanted to get away and work that would be a great spot as they have a little desk.
Speaking of work, if you need to connect, the wifi seems solid - I think it's located upstairs - my wifi analyzer showed strongest signal strength up there. It capped at about 3 Mbps, for those of you with requirements. I tried downloading some software and was hard capped by the provider at 250kbps. I was able to stream netflix however.
That's it - this was a place I could easily see being our own getaway spot.
Great house, great location, and great amenities. Half a block from the uncrowded beach and a nice 10min beach walk to the brewery and cape kiwanda!
We loved the house and the location. Everything was very comfortable. We enjoyed morning walks on the beach, lunch at the Pelican Pub, and some great evening meals with fresh salmon, tuna, and crab from the local grocery. The house was very roomy and the kitchen was fully equipped to make evening meals a treat. The beds were so comfortable... every night was a dream. There is even a small group of deer that freqented the back yard and we enjoyed sitting on the back deck watching them. We had a great time that was over quicker than I would have ever imaginged. The vacation was like a great massage... it was awesome but ended way too soon!
This getaway was just what we needed! Laid-back and healing. The sounds of the lapping waves eased all tensions. The cottage was homey enough to seem like we'd been there before. Oregon and this experience will never be forgotten!
