Dangerous and dirty

  • 1 of 5
None of the problems that the two previous reviewers mentioned have been resolved. In terms of the electrics the place is an accident waiting to happen; e.g. we kept the light switch in the bathroom, with the wiring only contained by plastic cable cover, on the whole time as we were afraid one of the children might electrocute themselves turning it on or off if they had wet hands. See Marie S's review for unresolved electrical issues in this chalet - there are numerous and without hyperbole the place is a death trap.

The smell also remains, the wardrobes are unusable due to it -unless you don't mind your clothes reeking of rot. Wardrobes are also grubby with dead spiders in one of them.

A replacement shower was fitted during our stay which also didn't work - was either scolding or freezing, we were offered suggestions on how to address this such as turning up the water pressure (unfortunately this involved going behind the back of the toilet which is filthy and we couldn't stomach it). We actually abandoned our holiday 1/2 way through - 3 days in that chalet was more than enough.

The actual holiday park is really nice, a clean swimming pool, lovely walks, newly refurbed clubhouse, friendly & helpful staff - there are plenty of consistently well reviewed properties to let other than this one - some of which may actually not breach trading standards in their descriptions!

Book this at your peril. I could go on complaining about this "luxury" chalet but will only be repeating the two previous reviews. I would also suggest you take lightly the owners responses to their feedback (which sadly we failed to do) as the smell, dirt, electrical dangers and general tack in the place are indefensible.

Needs Work Doing Urgently!

  • 1 of 5
Let me first say that for the price I was expecting a basic no frills holiday but I am surprised this place is being let out. It is up for sale and obviously unloved, when you drive up all the other chalets look in much better condition and your hopes rise. Then you see it and think well, it will do for a week. The first thing to hit you when you open the door is an over powering smell of mould and damp. From reading previous reviews this has been an on going problem since at least 2012. The owner has responded to one review saying the damp problem has been address, I can a sure you it hasn't. There was a spray sent device in the living room set to spray every couple of minutes, even this couldn't hide the stench. There were slugs in the bathroom and wardrobes, the cushions were mouldy. The place has recently had a coat of paint but you can see where the mould has been painted over. I have a 16 month old who was born 10 weeks premature and has very sensitive lungs, after a couple of days sleeping in the cold wet bedroom he was coughing like mad. I had to sleep on the bottom bunk bed and have the heater on all night to try and keep him warm. Anything left on the floor over night was damp all the way through by morning. My glasses when put on in the morning would instantly steam up they were that wet. Clothes hung up were so damp they clung to the skin when put on.

That's before we get to the wiring issues. There is exposed wiring to the immersion heater, a massive safety risk. There is no timer on the tank so you have to turn in on when you get home from a day out and wait an hour. This meant the little one couldn't get a bath most nights, we had to boil the kettle to get hot water. The shower was very temperamental some nights we couldn't get it to heat water and had to go without a shower. The bath room light is switch operated , it should be a pull cord to prevent electrocution.

The kitchen was very basic which was too be expected, over all it wasn't too bad. My problems here were that the cooker is next to the fridge so heats it up whenever its on. There is very limited cupboard space, again expected, but the whole of it was filled with random assortments of crockery and saucepans only fit for the bin. There were around 20 mugs, not sure why anyone needs that many? Food had to be stored in shopping bags on the floor. x

The holiday park itself was lovely. I would not go back or recommend to anyone.

Owner's Response: I am deeply upset and disappointed with this holiday maker for writing this review about my chalet, They stayed on 7th June this year for 1 week and made no attempt at contacting me about their issues upon arriving at my property or indeed during the course of their week stay. Instead they chose to write a review which has deeply upset me.

I have never hidden the fact that my property did have a damp issue back in 2012 but it was dealt with immediately and no longer exists. I have had numerous bookings from holidaymakers since this time with no complaint of damp. I have visited the property myself on several occasions this year and very recently during May prior to 3 back to back bookings of which this holidaymaker was the last and I had no complaints from the other 2 parties one of which was interested in purchasing the property so if there was any damp I'm sure they would not have inquired on the purchase price.

I try to make the holiday a home from home experience for anyone who stays in my property providing all types of crockery and cooking utensils as well as equipment. The Fridge and Cooker are both new having been replaced in the last year.

I would like to reassure anyone looking to book my chalet in the future that if you do experience any kind of problem during your stay that I take it very seriously and have a team of people at my disposal to resolve any issue immediately wherever possible.

It just remains for me to say that the photographs on this website are what you will see upon entry of my property, I am not in the business of trying to hide anything. Please do not let this holidaymakers tirade on my property put you off booking with me as I make every effort to make everyone's stay comfortable.

I have contacted the holidaymaker but as yet they have not responded to me which I too find disappointing and rather cowardly that they could not talk to me but instead wrote a damaging review.

Disappointed

  • 3 of 5
Overall we thought the chalet was ok. It has been furnished to a high standard but have several problems that needed addressing.
We were unable to use the wardrobes in the main bedroom. There is a very big damp problem in there and the smell we found was at times very overpowering, we went to sleep with a smell of damp and woke up with the smell too. The walls in the wardrobe have mould which is obviously a health hazard. The heaters were left on during the day to try and warm the chalet up but we found it was difficult to get the chalet warm at all.
The lounge and kitchen were both clean which was lovely for us and the childs bedroom was great for my daughter although we found it was very very cold and struggled to heat it even with the heater on. The front door to the porch also doesn't close and there is a draught that comes through it.
The cleanliness of the bathroom however on arrival was not good as the floors hadn't been cleaned from the previous users. There was also mould on the blinds in the bathroom.
In the description it says it overlooks the lake, we were hoping we could see the lake from the chalet but unfortunately this was not quite a truthful description, as there are several rows of chalets in the way and the lake can't actually be seen from the chalet.
I did email the owner on our return but was disappointed with the response. I had hoped for some sort of partial refund.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately it was a cold weekend when this person stayed in the chalet and although there are heaters provided in every room of the chalet and additional blankets in the wardrobes in the second bedroom this holiday maker didn't manage to feel warm. With regard to the wardrobe in the main bedroom this has been looked at and the problem has been resolved. I do my best to equip the chalet for all occasions and regularly check the heaters are working properly for such times as out of season holiday makers who will require to use them.

Great holiday! (Add on)

  • 5 of 5
In addition to the review already submitted, i just wanted to add a little more (when i read what i had written, i realised i had missed some things!).

We had a fabulous weekend and enjoyed it very much. The chalet had everything we needed and was clean, neat and tidy with some fantastic views across the camp. The owner had even made sure there was toilet roll and washing up liquid!!

There were activites arranged all weekend, including evening entertainment as well as daytime activites, such as a family Easter Egg hunt (which we took part in). We have a 5 year old and he really enjoyed the weekend as well.

I would definitely recommend this chalet as a lovely enjoyable stay and will be re-visiting in the future! :)

(Also, i wanted to choose 5 stars last time, but obviosuly didn't do it quite right!!) :D

Owner's Response: The site my chalet is on is run privately and therefore has families in mind when choosing amenities on the site and events which take place. The events mentioned in this review were orientated around the Easter Weekend, however live entertainment and events feature throughout the summer season every year, also during Christmas and the New Year Holidays. I try to make my chalet feel like it's a home from home place to stay and try and equippe it for everyone's needs wherever possible.

Great holiday!

  • 4 of 5
This is a lovely chalet on a really beautiful camp. It smelled a little of damp when we first got there, but this soon disappeared once we warmed the chalet up a bit! It is at the top of a hill, so i wouldn't recommend for anyone unsteady or elderly (unless in a car) - it kept us fit for the weekend! The chalet was ample for what we needed for the weekend.

The camp itself is quite beatiful and the grounds offer a lovely walk in well kept surroundings. The amenitites could do with a little updating, but as we went out for most of the day, this was not a major issue.

The owner is extremely accommodating and does her utmost to fulfil any request you may have.

All in all, we would recommend this chalet as an ideal base from which to enjoy a nice relaxing holiday.
